  1. If you really want to put your mind at ease, talk to the water authority and tell them about your boat & motor. Sometimes there are exceptions that are not published. Case in point, I have a small lake near by that is electric only, I found out by word of mouth that I could "bag" my motor and use the lake. So I inquired with the state DNR and they said yes that was true. So if I want to fish that lake I have to put a large plastic bag over my lower unit & duct tape it in place. They asked if I could remove the "gas can" and disconnect the fuel line to the motor; but when I told them both were permanently installed they said that would be OK. I passed up that lake for the longest time thinking there was no way they would let me on it; but a little communication is all it took. Most of these places want you to use the facility, activity counts are how they will justify new projects.
  2. I really don't see that as a problem; it would, in most cases be referred to as a 17' boat. I think only an arse would argue the point that it's a 17.5'. Is there some authority that governs these lakes, they would be the ones to give you an official word on the subject. If the lakes are controlled by your states dept. of natural Resources you can email them the question and when & if you get a favorable reply you'll have a hard-copy document you can show at the ramp.
  3. I've never seen or used these, but I think I understand the knot. With the tube and bead, do you run your line through the tube, slide the coiled line onto your line and then pulling it tight? What do you do when you have to re-tie, slide everything up your line?
  4. Thanks DVT. I've been using just alcohol, but after messing up our dinette table top with a spill (that's a story for another time), I thought I'd better find something else. When I was younger I used carbon tetrachloride to clean my model plane engines and reels. It was a good grease cutter, dried quickly and cleanly. The alcohol I have now leaves little droplets of what I think is water. I can't find carbon tetrachloride any longer, somebody told me it was taken off the market in the US. Is there anything on the market that would work without the smell, my wife grudgingly puts up with the smell of alcohol but really gets vocal when I use finishes and thinners in my wood shop, the HVAC system pulls the odors throughout the house. After the table top (I was really in the dog house) I think I'm relegated to the back yard for any activity that involves solvents. With my level of fishing, I strip down my reels once a year in the winter and do a complete cleaning, inspection, and lube; the rest of the year I just clean the outside and lube the level wind worm gear or whatever is called for.
  5. What do you use for a cleaning solvent when cleaning your reels?
  6. Well UPS just dropped off my Fathers Day gift from my son & Daughter, It's an Abu Garcia Pro Max PMAX2-L. Within minutes I had it spooled up with some 60 lb braid and on a rod.... Am I excited? H yes, I can't wait to try it out but can't get on the water today, so I put on a practice lure and I'm heading out to the back yard. The first thing I noticed while setting up the reel is the line cross-over problem because of the stationary spool line guide. With the rod tip at 10 or 11 o'clock while adjusting the mechanical break the lure fall is uneven and will stop if the cross-over is at too much of an angle. The level-wind release function did away with that problem 30 years ago, why did they drop that feature? Probably so they can charge more when they reintroduce the feature as a new design to the younger generation.
  7. Whats your bobber stop look like, do you have a pic or a link; doesn't it pick up weeds?
  8. Yes, from Po-hick Park (see page 1), and the PRM invites you to fish its river and creeks if you like.
  9. Good going, I think you picked a good area.
  10. I guess I'm in line with the rest of you cause I'm always fishing some type of cover like SAV, wood, etc. I hardly fish open water like a hump in the middle of a river. Now I do fish a Carolina rig often with a floating worm like a Zman where thee weight is free.
  11. I bet they could do the string test, or some other type of alignment test, while they have the tires off. BTW, you need to take it very easy and slow on those old pothole ridden dirt roads. The springs on you trailer are too stiff on your type of rig, so all the shock it transfered throughout the trailer, into the boat and everything inside. I actually believed the springs were just for slow and the axle was hard connected to the trailer frame.
  12. May I suggest Amazon.com where I got mine (see my photos). http://www.amazon.com/Waterproof-Flexible-Adhesive-Olympic-Lighting/dp/B005EHHLD8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1371472493&sr=8-2&keywords=led+strip+waterproof You can have them in one day if you want and their only $12.00 for a 5 meter roll. I cut the strips to the length I needed and soldered on 22 awg wire. The strips can be cut in 3 LED increments where there are solder pads. If you want I can guide you through it via PM's or email with photos. I used the White water proof LED strip lights with the 3M adhesive backing for my lockers and red for the seating area so I could still see while driving at night; I plan to put red LED's around the inside of the gunnel to light the deck at night. Check out my photo gallery.
  13. X2, If the area has the structure, cover, temperature, tide, and depth (access between shallow and deep water) I'm looking for I'll sweep the area using one bait per sweep. I run through my confidence baits in a fast bait (spinner bait), slow bait (jig & pig) , fast bait (crank bait), slow bait (TX rig), order until I feel I've covered the area throughly. I try to remain focused on the idea the fish are there and I just need to find out what they want for dinner. Other factors such as the time of day come into play when selecting baits, if it early or late in the day and the sun is low I'll use something like a buzz bait for a fast bait and a jitterbug as a slow bait. I think you get the idea.
  14. I always peg, I don't like the weight separating from the plastic.
  15. What do you use as a cleaning solvent for your reels?
  16. Two questions: 1. can you detect any oder coming from the frames material? I know this is "way" out in left field, but sometimes new frames give off a very slight chemical oder. 2. Have you tried other sun glasses while on the water, and if so, did you have any problems? BTW, those are some sharp looking glasses
  17. Now that's what I call blind faith When we have heavy rains that muddy up the river, and this goes for any river, you can work the creeks and small bays and back waters like Penrods Cove at the W.W. Bridge. Look for areas off the main channel where the water is cleaner IMHO is the secret. Look for slack water and work the weed edges where a shallow shelf drops into deep water; some place where the bass can make a quick transition. I also recommend Ken Penrod's books on fishing the Potomac, they're like having a fishing guide with you whenever you want.
  18. I have never used or known anyone that used blue lenses for fishing; how do they work for you? I'm not saying they are wrong or anything against them, I'm just curious as to how they work. I agree, dry eyes could be your problem. And like Teal said above, eyedrops could solve the problem for you; it certainly won't hurt to try them, and if they don't work, please see a doctor. Tight Lines
  19. Try SunX-30 if your having problems with sunscreen getting into your eyes. I get it from Amazon. http://www.coretexproducts.com/sunx_30
  20. What kind of burning are you talking about? I also have never had this problem, other than when sunscreen or sweat would get into my eyes. I would suggest to you that your eyes are not something to monkey around with and therefore you should see a good eye doctor and discuss the problem. Good luck, I hope this is nothing serious.
  21. I'll tell you up front I don't know a thing about hunting boots, but I have been using hiking boots for many, many, decades; in fact I worked in them, or should I say I lived in them for years. The best ones I've had are by Vasque. Their hiking boots fit like a glove (with the proper insert) and wear like iron. I currently have the Vasque Clarion GTX. http://hikingboots.com/mens-vasque-clarion-gtx Tip, once a year give the boot a good cleaning and then two coats of water proofing spray 24 hrs apart.
  22. Congratulations on the good news. I'll second what Rhino & Ghoti said above. Get well soon.
  23. I don't understand Mike, a transponder on you trailer that does what?
  24. Looking on ebay for 753 & 754FC, and ultra Mags and the future looks bright
