  1. Shimano regulates the retail prices of their products and doesnt allow variance from suggested msrp normally. Makes me wonder if the CI4 is being phased out already for a mid year replacement. Very unlike Shimano but they are introducing the new monster Curado mid year so maybe there are some suprises coming.
  2. Yup straight on with no backing. One wrap of electric tape to spool first then wrap line 2 or 3 times around the arbor then do a simple uni.
  3. Bantam discussed this over and over when this board choose to have a shimano page. Quantum hot sauce will void your warranty. It is highly not recommended by shimano. On a side note dont ever use it in a pinch on your firearms either!
  4. Slonezp -- do those white jigs have a rabbit zonker tail? Interesting. Momma and our baby girl love me! Shimano Stradic 3000 FJ Spool Power Pro Super Slick Spool Suffix 832 St.Croix Legend Tournament Bass Skippin' Spinning Rod 4 Zara Puppies 4 Tiny Torpedos 2 Cultiva Zip' n Ziggy's 12 Mirrorlure Mini Mirrodines
  5. I dont think you can compare the older Crucial to the new one, doesnt it have a high modulus blank. I have older Crucials and would say workmanship is higher in the Avid.
  6. I imagine it will, they all get wore in. Thats actually what I dont want, to avoid tip wrap since Im using spinning more than casting these days.
  7. Funny a bass sized crankbait can destroy a spinning rod and reel. I catch tarpon, jacks, reds, black drum snook ,flathead catfish, blues, stripers, alligator gar, peacock bass and sharks on bass sized spinning gear for years and none of those fish can do what a rapala balsa bait did to your gear. Its to each his own. Why do the internet experts always have to tell people they dont have the right gear and have to buy something else. Baits dont eat up gear operator error does. Reels dont fight fish the rod does.
  8. Dont feel you gotta get into casting gear to find good stuff. 50 years of fishing and Im just discovering that spinning can do more than most internet experts feel it can do. If you want to look for a more parabolic bend in your spinning rod for cranks, you'd do good to look away from "bass" or technique specific rods. Lots of walleye and saltwater spinning rods will serve your purpose.
  9. You threw those little crappie jigs with a Curado 200D ? Wow Im impressed.
  10. Yeah its better, more up to date technology. Power Pro Super Slick is very similar. A little cheaper than 832 locally. It seems to have held up it body better thus far. But 832 is an excellent line too.
  11. He's from Coral Springs Fl. so more than likely his outfits are pulling double duty fighting more and better than just Lake O bucketmouths. In south Fl. you do need a reel capable of holding a decent amount of line. Much of our freshwaters hold just as many tarpon, snook, jack and reds as they do bass.
  12. Wow I thought I was the expert at ticking off moderators, you take the crown from me. Bantam has warned us many times that Hot Sauce will void your warranty on his companies reels so watch out. Ive had 3 in 1 oil badly discolor the black chrome plastic pieces of a Revo SX but otherwise worked well. Inox if you can find it, is very good. If you can find it too, Daiwas blue grease is a very good grease but I understand they dont make it available to the retail market anymore.
  13. A friend of mine has sent back his C400 4 times. Once because of operator error he used it with sunscreen on his hands. It reacted with the finish causing it to bubble and seperate. The other times a bearing froze up, he uses it in saltwater. Each time they sent him a new reel no questions and he received it within two days. Im not impressed with its looks but I was real impressed by its casting ability and their customer service.
  14. Wow your seven years in Florida have been much more memorable than my 50 years fishing here. I dont buy the offshore is so mighty stuff though. Been there dont that. Theres no casting involved. Most of the overfished remnants are simply like pulling a 5 gallon drum up from the drink. The flatheads Ive caught in Tenn. fought better than any Cuda or Red that exist in my part of Fl. And with all these species, like any other, proper technique dictates you use the rod to fight the fish. Salt guys in their buffs and saltlife t's just see it glamourous to us the engines forward gear to reel their fish in instead of a good reel.
  15. I dont understand why folks think spinning should cost less than casting. Especially today when virtually every casting reel looks like it was spawned from the same parents. Maybe because beginner and less intensely involved anglers seem to gravitate towards spinnings ease of operation. Its true you dont need much of a reel to catch most any fish. The Pflegeur Medalist proves that. Proper fighting a fish is all up to the rod, the reel only gathers line and even a poor drag can be supplemented by your thumb or palm. Francho's centerpin reels is proof of that. But why buy cheap? Its like the dozens of saltwater guys I pass everyday on the highway. 70 grand F350 hauling a 200 grand center console with 50 grand of outboards on it. Every one has 20 buck walmart combos in the rod racks.
  16. That alledged nrx problem seems to only afflict the Daiwa fans on tackletour.
  17. Those factories are all basically the same, owned by a huge conglomerate similar to Pure Fishing. Usually Bantax, Ohero, Fox or Omoto. They are all one season wonders and you cant expect more than that. There really is no way to compare them to the quality control of Shimano.
  18. I use a simple furled sinking leader to get my fly down a bit to the bass. Just add 2-3ft of 10 or 12# tippet. Most of the time I do 20# mono cause a baby tarpon or snook will grab it before the bass does. The furled leader makes it so much more simple. I fish mostly small EP flies and other synthetic material streamers. I work them in slow sometimes very slow short strips and let it suspend much of the time.
  19. Yeahwe have the same folks shadow us at the local jetty's. Some actually will run up take it off your hook and run off with your catch! Their favorites are usually anything illegally small.
  20. Nice Jacks. They are super scarce here, heavy netting for them by commercial guys. Only out of jealousy I gotta ask, you kept those Jacks? You dont have a magic receipe for them do you? Also looks stormy there, always done my best for snook as a storm is hitting.
  21. Wait till you get married and she throws in the honey do list ...
  22. I handled them at Bass Pro and was impressed by the lightweight feeling. I cant get over the crazy price for Pac Bay components. Then saw the Legend Tournament Bass rods they had on clearence marked down to the same price. I think Shimano's redesigned Clarus and Compre will probably outshine and outsell the Rage.
  23. Try the FJ and you'll see a difference in smoothness between it and the CI. Then its just a matter of what you prefer, lighter weight or increased mechanical fluidity.
  24. I find color more important than that. Size to match the forage even more important. Here 99% of the time they arent feeding on whats left of the mullet, they are eating glass minnows and sand bream. I catch bigger fish on lures smaller than the she dog or 52m. Something more the size of the Mirrordines, and Mirrorminnows. Here you could throw that electric chicken or chatruese color plug walmart sells to catch buyers, all day. Green or black back with silver sides and white belly or usually gold baits since the waters I fish are extremely tannic. So take into account the waters you are fishing in Carolina and the type and size of the bait you have up there.
  25. Ive caught big saltwater fish on my 2500CI4. The eva handle gave up the ghost early on and Shimano didnt have replacements for a very long time though. Now I prefer the new FJ's. A weight penalty but the x ship is noticibly smoother and Ill go to great lengths to avoid the new popular eva door knob handles.
