  1. I agree with you Hooligan but dont no longer see that masterful engineering coming from shimano. They are just as lame as all the other manufacturers even the models made in Japan. Its the new business model that imitates what american business college teaches. Planned obsolescence, poor customer service, make your profit and run with it. If shimano, maybe even Daiwa, kept the Japanese business model at heart it would be a different matter entirely.
  2. I only use braid on spinning outfits and always with leaders. I have to because of snook and tarpon in my bass waters. Oddly contrary to what has been said, I have tested on my own with a partner and our mono versus braid fishing results are the opposite. Mono has outfished braid 3 to 1 even in Lake O for us. Confidence must be the over riding factor like mentioned above. I have zero confidence in braid and see only negatives in using it and not one positive to it. Just like with your fly fishing line the OP mentions he has used. Im sure you never used a chartruese or flame orange WF sinking line.
  3. To each his own. Thats the point you are making? Who cares where somethings made at? Same point so many have tried to make here for so very long whenever the shimano posse rides into a thread about a different maker. But to each his own. I prefer to make an effort to not buy chinese made anything. An impossible feat but its my thing. Not that I think made in the U.S.A has ever meant quailty either.
  4. Good to know upnorthbassin. Ive been away from guns for a bit.
  5. Team DOYO Since 1999! Kinda puts the value of that Revo MGX right into the crapper. Ake Murvall (inventor of the original Abu) and Len Borgtrom must be rolling over in their graves. On second thought its gotta make you laugh to realize the mighty Ike ditched quality Daiwa for using a reel from a chinese novelty toy company.... Kinda like putting you match grade Purdy down for a Mossberg pump. Or your Springfield .45 for a Glock.
  6. No IAR on my custom made 4500C's and Im glad not to have it. One less bearing to give out. The dog is less likely to fail. Never have to press it out of the sideplate and endanger more parts.
  7. He cant use his own name by binding legal agreement with shimano right?
  8. Abu sent me a dozen c clips in a envelope years ago, just a stamp. I wonder what they do now?
  9. Law of physics might say a casting reel is mechanically superior but these days technology has made the spinning reel viable. Besides how much mechanical advantage do we need to hunt a animal with a pea sized brain and tiny compared to our own physique. I prefer to work most lures with a casting combo. But I'll always prefer to fight a fish with a spinning combo. To me its more comfortable. We are lucky to have so many choices.
  10. Boomerang Snip
  11. To me it looks like the shimano posse has been run out of town by the lews posse. They seem just as pushy too.
  12. Why do you guys risk loosing a fish swinging him in? The "pro" on t.v. doing it just adds fuel to the peta fire. Slapping the fish into the deck even the carpet scrapping its slim coat off. BPS has a $8 lipper if you cant afford a Boga.
  13. See what I meant Darren? You cant give a reel review here. Too many brand militia's come out of the wood work. They will fight to the death to convince themselves that the reel they bought is the worlds only choice.
  14. Im not sure who makes the Avenger, Okuma I think. Do they offer some type of anti twist technology similar to Daiwa or shimano's? I suspect Okuma suggests in the reel manual to spool up much like they do. Line coming off the bottom of the spool from the spools side, not facing up in the traditional way. Im afraid you are going to always suffer from this situation because that model from Okuma has a small diameter spool which just promotes the coiling.
  15. 4600C3. $80. Will last forever. Super easy and cheap to fix, as if it'll ever need it. Better than a cheap low profile, it is slimmer width wise and more comfortable just not fashionable. Customizable to the hilt if you desire. The definition of bang for the buck and it spits in the face of blingy posers.
  16. I like those retro reels Paul! Cardinal, XLT, I think a old Quantum and a Black and Gold Daiwa ?
  17. Wifey gave me the spare bedroom to make it my office. Ive got all my tackle organized with 3700 size Planos and they live in a closet organizer. I fish the bank, kayak, and a 14ft jon boat which is really small for 2 6ft+ 300lb. guys. So I pull what lures I think will be useful for the day and pack them in a Fishpond Fly Fishermans waist pack. A few colors of each kind, but usually just topwaters, flukes and crankbaits. I dont own a spinnerbait, jig and dont like using heavier tackle for swimbaits or frogs. I have never taken more than 2 combos with me. All that may change with season, where Im fishing and for what but I always keep it down to the bare minimum on a trip and never regretted it. But the closet is bursting with choices.
  18. He discovered tackle tour is all........ Now he has a whole new crowd of JDM Daiwa owners to convert
  19. Yup, and Fox and Banax and Penn and Pheluger. I like my new Revo S, its gonna be a great stay in the truck reel. But its still a Ford/Mazda, Chev/Daihatsu in a BMW world.
  20. Pinnacle was big here in Fl. for a year in the early 90s. Everyone thought they had a cheap alternative of a Calcutta. No tackle shop would work on them and the salt seized then up in a trip or two. I could never bring myself to get one then, I wont try now either. Im interested in how guys slam a Revo and praise a Lew's that came out of a different back door of the same factory.
  21. DarrenM, I find it hopeless to make a review of a none shimano product here. Any dialog would only become a shimano vs. Daiwa debate that would surely get locked. I'll pm you some of my thoughts, o.k.?
  22. Fishing from the yak is hard on reels. Dont skimp on the reels you'll use on the yak. You get wet, they get wet. But its worth it.
  23. Lunkerville for sure. He has a way of making you feel good. Its also interesting to see how you guys fish up there. You sure have alot of boat safety laws and seasonal rules to contend with.
  24. Absolutely watch the barometric pressure. Numbers havent been as important to me but a falling pressure always produces, if its crashing fast before a thunderhead, even better. High pressure almost always poor fishing and always a finesse type day.
  25. Ive found the Daiwa Lexa to be even better than my Stradic's, at less money. Interesting that some think a spinner is more carefree and durable than a conventional reel. You'll find alot of reel repairmen that refuse to work on spinners. They say they it is too hard to satisfy the client with the finished product, too difficult to repair to their satisfaction.
