  1. Welcome the the forum Swordsman.
  2. I almost got to think, why are we surprised at this. There is no such thing as manners in todays American society. I have no love for pros or tournaments, they (not bass but redfish and tarpon) pros have destroyed my local waters. But I will never forget getting to shake the hands of VanDam and Brauer at the Classic Expo in Orlando years ago. Genuinely professional men. Here the locals are smarter. They wait for the tournaments to end and then bombard the release area 12 hours after the tournament!
  3. I always thought that with Revo's but had hoped the JDM versions had been better made for a more demanding customer. Are you seeing the clear coat separating? The paint look thin?
  4. Welcome to the forum, neighbor! That don't look like the Caloosahatchie to me.
  5. I've always been surprised that you don't see more folks using spinning for buzzbaits. Faster retrieve and the ability to get the buzzbait up on the surface faster by having the reel ready even before the lure hits the water.
  6. I find longevity problems in most shimano's. Yes they are quality built but often replaced. They purposely relieve themselves of spareparts. By the time you need a part, admittedly a few years down the pike, they are hard to find. I couldnt get a new bail arm for a CI4 for over 2 years and thats while it was still in production. According to their wholesalers, they could get it but shimano refused to sell it to me. I wont touch a shimano again.
  7. I was referring to the Premier, though I'm fortunate enough to have a Mojo that was made in Wisc. pre Mexico.
  8. Yeah I'd say you did right dropping a in house brand made in china rod and replacing it with a made in the USA rod model from a company renowned for good customer service.
  9. Dam007, try looking in some of the Texas kayaking forums and the Australian fishing forums. I haves found lots of Daiwa info on those forums from Daiwa spinning reels users
  10. I wonder how many of these guys who say line color doesnt matter, have drank the flourocarbon kool-aid? Or red hooks entice a fish but red line is invisible to them......
  11. Super Fluke for any depth I just adjust rate of fall with nail weights and heavier gauge hooks. I agree that Lunker City's Texposer Hook is great for flukes. For bigger fish I throw Castaic Jerky J's.
  12. I fish saltwater flats and have scared snook from just the line flying over their heads. With clear mono and with chart. fly line. O.P. instead of removing perfectly good line, have you tried using a leader? A simple surgeons knot makes it easy. I get beat often by a guy who ties hi-vis mono directly to his lures. I dont have faith in that for myself, and always us a simple clear mono leader. But I'll stick to a clear 4 or 5ft. mono leader.
  13. 130 because its being discontinued for the next version. In shimano tradition that means within a year you will find spare parts impossible to get from shimano as they sell off the inventory to places like their line of factory authorized repair houses. Of course you can find parts there at their profit price until the limited supply dries up. I learned with the Curado D to never buy shimano's cheaper soon to be replaced models. I have a Stradic FJ 3000 and find the Daiwa Lexa to be just as smooth, cast farther, have a more durable finish and Daiwa tends to keep a supply of parts for quite a few more years than shimano.
  14. I have 4. No issues. They are the signature series not the tactical. Nice short butt sections but newer versions went from Fuji to proprietary reel seats.
  15. Wow. Excaliber, Heddon are low end??? Tackletour just had a thread about what is a mid price point reel and it was said that the Daiwa Certate was mid quality! Are bass fishermen becoming the new.......... Fly fishing Snob ?
  16. The one in Nokomis by the post office? Not aware of one in Sarasota City limits.
  17. I wish Falcon never sold off their tackle organizer division. Falcon does make quality stuff.
  18. I like them and think they are a good price at normal retail considering they are American made. I'd say at that price its a deal. Amazing what walmarts in some regions carry. My states walmarts would never carry a rod over $39. Ive looked from Miami to Orlando!
  19. I fish the smaller version of that reel everyday, old and all. It can handle just about anything you can think of. Check the Ambassadeur sub forum on alantani.com, there is a post that explains deciphering the reelfoot number. Its a sticky. Lots of tutorials that can walk you through cleaning it too. You can jazz up the innards and make it cast like a demon. I prefer the narrow spool model myself but the 5000/5500's are great multi species reels and much better made than todays version.
  20. Nope! This is the fishing season for me. No winter here to speak of, mid 80's almost everyday with summer thick humidity. Bass are as confused as we are, bedding all but done. Come the time you guys fish full steam, it'll be the end of my season...just to darn hot to fish.
  21. No crankcaster, it doesnt have to be 7ft. "Pro's" and manufacturers have just made it vogue. In a couple of years when the sales numbers drop, "pro's" will pump up new shorter is better technology, to kick up more sales. Use what you find works for you. I jig for much bigger fish than bass with shorter and non technique specific rods all the time.
  22. Gambler Cane Toad Zoom Horny Toad
  23. Im German! If that was true, I'd never have made it past 5 years old
  24. Jigs are much more compact and aerodynamic than say a weightless soft plastic that catches the wind and can cause grief. I throw 1/8oz bucktail jigs on Med. rods no problem. Small spoons fly too.
