    Spooks

The gold/orange/black saltwater super spook is a must for freshwater fishing tannic stained rivers here in florida.
  2. A 5'6" Med. pistol grip in no higher techno babble than IM-6 is the best. Best thing is since the 'great' manufacturers have given up on such lowly ancient technology, you can get one pretty cheap sticking to bass pro or cabela's own in house models. I use one every day to walk the dog from shore.
  3. Ive learned more from Lunkerville than I ever could from 'serious' fishing shows like fishing university or zona the gang banger. Exactly.
  4. Zaion spools? Or Zaion rotor? I prefer mono even with spinning gear and have little trouble with either make as far as management of line, but my experience is only with middle of the market models. Distance goes to Daiwa for me.
  5. Yup. I havent seen a frog in a decade. Thanks to 'Round up'. Dont even get me started on golf courses. My town had nearly 20. It is impossible to fish anything but a topwater for a 10 mile diameter surrounding my town. Nothing but angel hair algae. Not a soul cares, least of all a game and fish dept. run by a consume and develop at all cost governor.
  6. Other than lines made for the euro market, I havent seen off sized lines like you say, 22lbs. That said you can get a huge savings buying overstock euro lines if 5, 7, 9.9 or 22lb. line can meet your needs.
  7. I would not think anyone would want to limit themselves and purchase equipment not capable of of catching multiple species. I find flathead catfish much more of a fighter than saltwater fish the same size. Besides if a company cannot or will not make a reel capable of handling multi species and only capable of the minor effort of catching a bass, I would not buy anything they make. They wouldnt deserve your money.
  8. Yup the old green and white. Still the preferred reel of Ned Kehde an excellent writer for In-Fisherman.
  9. Lots of down to earth bass fly fishing info at thebasspond.com. Good non elitist folks there with great advise.
  10. I hate braid but when I have to use it, it's Kansen or better yet Daiwa Samurai if I can find it.
  11. There is still a chance to get that excellent Cardinal 4. A limited edition is available procured by Simon Shimomura himself. But at $400 plus I can't swing it. O.P. I see no durability in shimanos either and will never buy one again. CI4 and FJ have disappointed me. I'm thrilled with my Daiwa Lexa, Coastal and Ballistic. Perform better, are tougher and the company supports me, something shimano never did. I'm also very happy with the Abu Revo spinners, perhaps the smoothest drag out there, rivaling high end fly reels.
  12. How tragic, though typically pitiful as is bassmaster, that to them the "Hottest" means catching fish that average ONLY 4lbs. 4lbs. todays Hot fish, probably full of the black ick spots too but thats just a "sun tan" ......ask the professionals!
  13. I find channels stick tighter to cover during the day. They roam searching for food more actively at night. In the absence of thick.cover I look for deep holes and tight against bridges.
  14. A mod. action cranking rod is fine for small topwater like 1/4oz. pups. For typical sized topwaters I prefer a med. action graphite in the older 'blends' like IM-6 or IM-7 and avoid IM-10 or "50 Ton".
  15. The same thing happened to me that ww2farmer said. I bicycle road raced. The clubs members became exclusive in attitude. If you didn't agree with their political and business views they snubbed you and clicks formed and lots of internal back biting. I got tired of being looked down on for only being a cop and not in business. I was building up bikes for years but now a good bike costs close to ten grand, a nice bike well over. One season I didn't ride to enjoy a particularly good bass spawn and never went back.
  16. I fish brackish water almost every day. Ive learned to avoid a water rinse period. I misting of salt away on a rag hits the reel and rod guides after every trip and the whole rod gets a Inox wipe down. Reels roller guide and each screw gets a needle drop of reel x or corrosion x. Dont forget the rods hook keeper where it hits the threading.
  17. I agree with you Bill, they are keener than all angler's give them credit for. Are they smart in the sense people responding think of as smart, maybe not. They didnt get big by luck or great efforts of academic men giving to nature. They still have a pea sized brain. But God made them to survive and thrive. I love how internet experts proclaim how their prey isnt smart but then spend tons of money to use the most technologically advanced gear to fool it into biting.
  18. That was my assumption. For a Lexa spinning reel msrp was 129 and change its mswp was 88 bucks.
  19. I use them for everything. More importantly, is the Ambassadeur D in good shape? You may have made a profit on your buy, they go for good money especially the brown anodized sideplate model.
  20. There was a lot of counterfeit power pro going around a couple years ago. The only way to tell was a tiny glitch in the print on the packaging. You can search the archives at floridasportsman forum to find out about it. A retailers called tackledirect has a bunch of videos on youtube. The guy talking about new products has a big screen behind him with product data. Often they seem to forget to block out the manufacturers mswp and the msrp. When you see the shops price its enough to make you sick! Maybe you lucked out and got the mswp.
  21. Buzzards/Vultures find carrion by pinpointing its release of carbon dioxide using their sense of smell. A knowledgeable angler can locate bluegill beds by simply following their noses. Perhaps birds such as terns and gulls can smell the oily residue of ravaged baitfish.
  22. Wow great fish! Glad to see I'm not the only one who jumps DOT retention pond fences
