  1. Wood models and war time plastic lipped models are worth something. There are jitterbug collector sites where you can find out.
  2. Im quirky. I prefer old, very old, Ambassadeurs. I prefer to use them on 5.6ft. pistol grip rods. With Fl. becoming the 3rd most populated state, our inshore waters are a traffic jam of rude northerners who operate their boat like they solely own the waters. I avoid those places and trapse into the mangrove jungle and creeks where they fear to tread. 99% of the time I throw a spook and the spots I fish are sheltered from wind. Better yet, I hit the freshwater where the snowbirds never go.
  3. That is a cheap shot especially considering the Mr. Wonderful at shimano has confirmed on posts that shimano oil is only mineral oil. A buddy of mine did get the warranty on his new VW voided for going to his mechanic for its first oil change. Apparently it was designed so that important engine components had to be removed to allow the filter removal. Hmmmm.... just like shimano making disassembly of the Calais impossible without a tool you cannot buy.
  4. Same here but they wanted me to send it to a middleman repair center. Then pay labor and the price of the part with the middlemans mark up. A shimano will never touch my hands again.
  5. B/C in florida inshore is nearly extinct. Here it looses all its positives except in limited uses. Ca. and Texas have different weather conditions. Here prevailing winds using the Gulf of Mexico to increase speed will drive your educated thumb into exhaustion. I know, Ive been using casting gear inshore for 40 years. It also doesnt have any place while flats fishing which is 98% of Floridas inshore game. 1/8oz and weightless lures are the norm along with livelining unweighted shrimp. Try doing that with the continuous wind. Just not worth the "Glory" or the "Im the expert" factor.
  6. 2500CI4, no parts from shimano for almost 2 years right after it came out. Curado D, no parts from shimano 5 months after it was succeeded by the E. I she no logic in buying into shimano's 'buy last years model cheap' sales.
  7. Penn Conflict. Why wait for if and when a reel goes on sale because the maker decides its outdated and clearances it? Why buy a reel and have it be automatically outdated? The Revo spinners are very smooth and mine have been tougher than the pitiful CI4's were. They've handles much bigger fish, their only down side is the modular takedown is not easy to work on. The Penn is basically a Pfeluger made for tougher conditions and you have the insurance that it comes from a company that has a history of keeping spare parts available for decades and bend over backwards customer service.
  8. I've never had a Daiwa breakdown on me to need their service. Can't say that for the shimano's I've had. I sold my Tatula days after I got it because I was using it in saltwater. Only because the levelwind couldn't cope with leader knots and I didn't want to risk it breaking.
  9. Bass Pro has them from Daiwa. It is reusable but the plastic isnt the best and you'll only get a few refills before it degrades. INOX has a reusable needle oiler and their oil is the best. Its wider than a pen but still small and the needle has a cant that helps get into noks and crannys.
  10. Yeah I've never really had a problem with Quantums inshore stuff except the finish seems to chip off even when using reel covers. Internally they have been tough for me.
  11. I started with an 8 but now don't use anything but a 6wt. I've never felt undergunned but I don't use deerhair surface stuff I'm strictly a streamer fishermen, sometimes a gurgler.
  12. Yeah but the material used and the coating on it is the same as the upper end models. It might have gone thru the back door marked BPS but it came out of the same assembly line as the ones marked lew's or revo. The only difference is the color of chromified paint on the bling bits and the number of bb's. They paint it with titanium colored coloring and call it inshore and theres just not a real difference.
  13. I have 2 boomerangs but after the first day of use they fail to stay in the closed position and catch on my shirt since I wear them on a lanyard. I sprayed oil in one since it was used while wading. Oiling it caused it to never go into the closed position again. I use a William Joseph nipper made for fly fishing. Fly fishing tools seem more rugged and refined.
  14. I bought both. The Lexa impressed me, the Tatula was returned 2 days later. Hated the thin Lews style grip paddles and the line guide could not retrieve a leader knot. The Lexa felt as refined as the Tatula, without the techno gimmicks and was simple enough a design to allow self maintenance.
  15. You've become bilingual down there Snook! Do you use something to shield the mono of your leader from the flame?
  16. That tutorial I suggested has a complete maintenance outline for you. Yamaha marine lube helps as it describes. Get that new part too unless you mallet job totaled the reel. Mist is best never from the hose, too much pressure. Use a water spray bottle like your wife uses for her hair. Better yet just wipe well with a wet t shirt or thin rag that'll let you get into crevices.
  17. Rinsing only pushes the salt and sand into the reel. You need to do much more than that after salt exposure. Go to the Abu sub forum on alantani.*** and check out the Revo Inshore tutorial there. There is a white metal or pig metal part in the clutch assembly that gets buggered and useless. The tutorial tells you the "Revo Recall" part number to get a replacement and shows you how to do the work.
  18. By the way, Welcome to the biggest shimano cult on the internet. Don't let let it leave a bad taste in your mouth, hope you post often.....
  19. The sad part of uneducated consumers buying chinese is the fact that they, the chinese are destroying a huge portion of asia's environment while they make their profit. Our business had to leave our country to avoid stricter environmental laws among other reasons. Now we simply manufacture the stuff elsewhere and destroy the earth there. Thousands of miles of Siberian and middle asian rivers and lakes ranging almost to Iraq have become void saltin seas from run off directed there from china.
  20. Ball bearing symbol on rotor body is the same as on Pure Fishing models. I bet it shares internal parts with the new model Phulgers that are set to come out soon. Just like tires or cars, all the different makes come out of different back doors of the same mega factory in china.
  21. Daiwa Ballistic
  22. FishChris too... He was featured in a Catfish In-sider Magazine for his ultralight techniques.
  23. Lots of good info on Midwest Finesse blog. Any article from Ned Kedhe is worth reading. I use ultra light baitcasting gear, 4 and even 2lb. mono on Abu 1500c and 2500c reels on very limber Kokonee trolling rods. Wacky rig cut up senko's and small rapala type jerkbaits.
  24. You ought to google mitchell museum. A forum of really nice guys, all specializing in old Mitchells. Lots of tutorials and interesting Mitchell history. I got knowledge there to help me make a few smart buys off ebay on a couple prisitine 300's
