  1. That catfish is extraordinary. Is it an albino, or just a pale fish from muddy water?
  2. BTL Bass talk live, on you tube.
  3. A couple of turns of copper wire, twist strands together, clip off and fold flat, job done.
  4. Define "far". You can go a long way down the baitcasting rabbit hole. A long spinning outfit with light line will do the job better and far far cheaper. If you a want to go down the casting route a Shimano Aldebaran BFS does a good job. I have a Daiwa Alphas SV with a Cosugi spool that I'm very fond of, but that's after a long journey down the rabbit hole. I don't want to cast far though, just accurately. 20 yards would be a long cast for where I use it.
  5. Funny. That always strikes me as a really daft thing to do and completely counter to the intention of the format. They do need to work out a way of replacing the weigh in with some sort of alternate cliff hanger. Whether they stop the live scoreboard a couple of hours before the end, or maybe the commentators guess the weight rather than knowing the actual weighed weight, so that there is still some tension and expectation at the "weigh in". It needs work. BASS should definitely ban boat flipping fish into the cockpit. I hate that.
  6. That's great news as far as my interest in pro bass fishing goes. I found last year really difficult to be interested in. I don't enjoy the BPT format at all, FLW seemed distracted and BASS was a bit less than it might have been with so many new faces. I expect I'll be following BASS much more enthusiastically again this coming season.
  7. Buy a bigger boat that will take a kicker motor and use the kicker on Nockamixon.
  8. I'm not convinced either. If the snell causes the hook to hinge up, as many demonstrate, that rotates the bend of the hook up and tucks the point away from what I can see, so if it did work then it would cause worse hook ups. My guess is it doesn't make any difference in practise and as a normal knot is easier to tie, then I'll stick with that.
  9. You can do it for very little, but a foot control trolling motor and the batteries are going to be your main expenses. If you want it to be a pretty boat with elaborate decks and hatches etc it will obviously cost more, but a sheet of ply on the front for a deck will cost you just the sheet of ply. A transom mount TM can be as little as a couple of hundred, having another one on the front and using it as a hand control would save you a bunch of money.
  10. I had the same experience with 6lb Advance. Didn't last a day of fishing. Switched to CXX and it was absolutely fine, no premature wear. Switched back to a different spool of 6lb Advance and it wore out within a day again. It appeared to fracture and weaken with very little use. Shame, it handled nicely in every other sense.
  11. There must be some seriously bad blood between him and the MLF crew. He wasn't invited initially and now is leaving when they take over his income stream. Good luck to him.
  12. Yup. ?
  13. Yeah, pretty sure I've caught a couple of very black ones on Oneida.
  14. Probably more like a sculpin, but over here they're called bullhead.
  15. Saved a blank! First bullhead I've seen since I was a kid! ?
  16. St Croix do 2 piece Mojo series baitcasters which I expect are very reasonable. If you want to mail order a rod then the Tailwalk Full Range CC series are good 2 piece rods for not too silly money.
  17. Check for stickers under the rotor that have lifted. I had that on my Fuego LT, the whirring clicking sound drove me mad. I was looking at it, spanners out, preparing to take it to pieces, when I notices something flash. Turned out the metallic sticker under the rotor had lifted and one end was scuffing on the rotor. Saved a lot of fiddling around taking the reel apart, I just pulled the sticker off.
  18. Using thin braid I doubt the difference in casting distance would be measurable between a 2500 and a 3000. The retrieve rate would be higher given the same gear ratio and the drag performance possible a hair smoother, but that's about it. If you were using mono or fluoro there might be a small difference in casting distance.
  19. Get the 2000 if you want a slower retrieve rate. I like slower reels for ultralight cold water fishing. The 2500 would be much more universal.
  20. Horrible to think you're going into the winter freeze already, especially after all that wind that has kept you off the water recently.
  21. Buy some elasticated bungee cord and toggles off ebay and make you own. Super easy, cheap and easy to replace if they break or you lose them. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10x-Shock-Cord-Bungee-Rope-Drawstring-Lanyard-Stopper-Lock-End-Toggle-Buckle/253402783901?hash=item3afffba09d:g:UoMAAOSw-HRb75pG
  22. One size 27 battery to a 55lb TM on a 17' boat in current? Do you only fish a 3 hours at a time? I used to have a size 31 on a 55lb on my 12ft boat and fished a very slow moving river. I was really noticing the battery drop after 4 or 5 hours.
  23. Unbelievable fishing. Just amazing how the big one's eyes are bulging out of their heads. Just a tinsy wincy wafer thin mint for sir? ?
  24. Can't wait! In other news, I beat my PB zander from old father Thames today, and got soaked in torrential rain. LOL
