  1. Been having great results with a Green Pumpkin Ocho and Watermelon Green Yum Dinger in the Staunton River here in Virginia. Flipping it into deep holes behind brush piles and around pylons. Have been keeping an eye on the middle of the river. If I see a splash, I flip the rig about 20 or 30 feet up river from it and hang on. Got my biggest ones this way.
  2. Usually is good. Last year was not the norm.
  3. Yeah... right here at my farm. I usually put in at the Town and come down to our place. I do the Goose Creek trip as well but, in a jonboat, it is a 10 hour trip. Great striper fishing when they run though. I didn't do the Goose last year and a friend told me they never made it past Altavista.
  4. I agree but this one went right back in the water. I just hate killing if I am not going to eat it.
  5. SML today. Water temp about 58. Everything, when we finally found it, was in 40 to 80 feet. Wormed it and got one. Went to my flutter spoon and got some good strikes but never could get them up. Finally got it hung in 80 feet and lost it. That's when I noticed that the one I caught was not doing too well. It came from about 65 feet of water and had swim bladder problems. It finally went down but I decided not to risk another until I got something to relieve the air.
  6. Well put.We pushed the limit this year but hope, based on how much fun we had, more boaters will participate. It was really cool to see so many different types of people get together on a single interest. We had every personality from "If they got anymore easy going and laid back we'd have to do an autopsy" to "high speed low drag". Hope we get a bunch more in 2013.
  7. Thanks to all.
  8. The original post... Recommendations On Sinking Jerk Bait... I also added some based on our talk.
  9. I did try a drop shot that day with several brands of flukes. Colors were green pumpkin, white, smokey shad, pearl, some grey colors, a red one, and several variations of those colors. NOTHING!!!
  10. Link to the poll....
  11. I have been seeing bass at 30 - 50 foot depths lately when they are not in the shallows feeding. An example... the other day at SML... a buddy and I were in this cove and thousands of alewifes were schooling but nothing hitting them in the shallows. It was obvious by the Humminbird that the larger bait balls were surrounded by predatory fish at depths of 30 - 50 feet. They wouldn't take spoons or jigs and I couldn't get deep enough with anything else. What do you guys use? Sinking jerk bait? What would you recommend?
  12. I will add to NitroFreak about the camping... My place is open to anyone. We have a location for camping and you can set up generators. There is access to the river and a pond for some light fishing while camping. There is a spigot with water and (Nitrofreak and I spoke of this) has potable water. Some splitters could be added and water hooked up to your camper. The camping area is flat and will accommodate a lot of people. Not to forget... a place for a sizable fire. My family would welcome all of you. My Father and I own the property and he would be proud to have you stay there. If not... I will be camping with everybody at the Lake so I am good with whatever is decided. Page 5 of this thread has a view of our place.
  13. I'm Zoff and I approve this message! (Paid for by the 'we just wanna go fishing somewhere" committee)
  14. After the monsoon passes, I will get them. It is a plain-jane though. lol
  15. It was that thread that made me look to the Raiders. Thanks.
  16. Well... grew up fishing from canoes and jonboats. Got the Stratos for the big water. Canoes are great if I am by myself. Can't stand fishing from a canoe with someone especially if they are a "canoebie". I just refuse to canoe anymore with someone who stands up in one when they are the type who can't stand up on solid ground without wobbling and has an even harder time listening to what they are being told. As for jonboats... great on the river especially if there is someone to help load and unload. By myself on a pond... well... Doc says I am going to throw my back out one day lifting the jonboat. So... I broke down and snagged a 2007 Bass Raider off Craigslist for $275.00 and a Motorguide transom mount motor for another $75.00. Needs to be cleaned but looks and runs great. Now... customization....

  18. Of course I know it was in fun. lolLook forward to hearing from ya. It'll be a blast.
  19. Ok... ok... I apologize. Yes... you will probably catch a brownie. That was the majority of what I caught. Our river is loaded with them. You come down and see what we can do. Any of those dates are OK with me. Just let me know which one.
  20. BTW... we don't play cornhole round here. Apparently it means something else where you guys are from. At least... I hope it does.
