I think it was 8 total and we worked for those 8. Took some time to figure out the bite and it turned out to be craws in the deep grass.

I went to Smith Mt. today with hokiebass804 today. Great day but nothing big. The pic is the biggest we got in the livewell. There was one bigger but, after getting it off the hook, I dropped it and it flip-flopped off the boat.
I have this plan to do both hunt and fish. Might not sleep for a few months but I am going to try it. Fortunately... most of my hunting is withing 1/2 mile of my house.
That's a great looking place, Eric. Would love to do that.
NF... I am not suggesting we move to bank fishing but if there is good bank fishing, it would give people something to do while waiting for a boat to open up.

I would have to agre with you. As for the James... there is a nice picnic area at Monacan Park and I see people fishing there all the time. Also... it is small enough that I can bring my jonboat with a small motor and let some of the non-boaters use it. I see many canoe and kayak fishers there as well.
There are lost of good places... Briery, SML, Leesville, etc. Another good place but small is Monacan Park. It is the James river but is dammed up so it forms a small lake. We can look at Claytor, Moomaw... whatever. Eventually we would cover them all. lol

Just rolled into the homestead. Had a great day but I skunked... Windy as all get out. Chris caught but I didn't. Everybody I met made the day for me... fish or not. Thanks to everybody... Especially Mrs. Nitrofreak.
From the looks of things... one more won't matter. May have to fish in shifts. Take one or two in the boats for half a day then switch. Hope we get more boaters but I am not holding my breath.

Still need a few more boaters. If you are holding out and not sure if you are coming, just let us know you're thinking about it., No expectation that you WILL come. Just let us know you might. We are going to have some really crowded boats if not.

You're going to want to use... well... most anything. In deep water... 10ft +...I have seen good production with jigs and T and C rigs. Most always in Green Pumpkin or Watermelon. From 5 to about 15 feet...Rattle traps or cranks moved slow just off the points. Shallow water, try gold blade spinners in chartreuse on a slow roll... just enough to keep it off the bottom. I throw usually 3/4 to 1oz but have had to work down to 1/4 sometimes to get the bite. Start with larger baits and work down until they bite. Should see some good sunrise and sunset action as the baitfish move to the surface. I have been told that there was much success last year with weightless flukes and wacky rigs in brush/cover. SML can be very difficult to read in fall. The temperature fluctuates so much there. Even now... Last Thursday... the water temp near the Dam was 68 and in Blackwater it was 73. Went up to the Hale's Ford area and it was 78.
Nitrofreak is right... we need some more boaters to step up. Guys... this will be fun and you get to meet some new people. We passed on the "drawing" for partners. You get to fish with who you pick. I will fish wit whoever I end up with as I look forward to meeting you guys. We could use at least 3 more boaters. Either way, we will put all we can in the boats we have. It's fishing... life is good!
I think it is wise to keep the screwy people in one place. No need spreading it all over the place. Would take too long to gather us all back up in an emergency. I think they call those places asylums. Sorry... not PC... institutions.
