  1. 2 brakes/pins & forget it works on all my centrifugal brake(dual brakes too) reels. Only time I've ever had to go above 2 pins is when I start throwing in monsoons.
  2. Powell Endurance 723C with MGX-SHS has probably become my favorite casting combo. So light & balanced and it had plenty of muscle to pull out three 4 lbers & a 6 a couple weeks ago while feeling every little thing I drug my jig across. I only have one spinning set-up currently, but I really like it, a Lucky Craft Light Drop Shot with Premier 30, although I have a Patriarch 30 in the mail & will be picking up a L powered St Croix LTW or LE in the not too distant future.
  3. Probably my MGX-SHS, although having that high of a gear ratio would suck on moving baits. But for jigs/t-rigs & the like, it works like a charm & I've come to really like it this spring. Second would probably be my Premier or TP1S if I wanted a low speed reel.
  4. I have a 64WLP & TP1SH along with a TP1S in the mail, I honestly don't think you could go wrong with either. Cosmetically I think the Patriarchs are way cooler, since I'm not a big fan of black reels & the Patriarch is shiny, really shiny & purdy. I think the Patriarch feels more solid, so I'd probably go with that if I was planning on doing some heavy cover fishing or tip down moving baits, where the extra weight is less noticeable. If I was going to be primarily using it for baits worked with the tip up, I'd probably go with the TP, where I think the weight difference would be more noticeable.
  5. For you rods, you might want to see if you can get one of these to hold your rods up off the bed of the truck. http://www.cabelas.c...53Bcat104812380 I use one for my Explorer & it's great for keeping rods running along the ceiling and out of the way. I'd figure you could rig it for the bed of a truck, but if you have one of those super short boxes, it'd be pretty pointless if your rods are longer than your box. Probably work best if you have some sort of cover too.
  6. I went to step onto this little ledge next to a pond to fish from & when I stepped onto it, the grass gave way to a foot & a half hole a cow pushed into the mud & I fell through it & then fell into the water. This was like my first trip with my new Premier & it ended up going in with me, but I managed to keep it above the water. This was like the first week in May, so that water wasn't exactly warm either. Good thing to come out of that day was I went to another pond for the first time(many times since then) & caught my personal best. Of course, I consider falling in more bad luck than stupid, since that piece of ground looked solid until I stepped onto it. Although it was lucky that I didn't break my leg/ankle when I twisted & fell in the water when it was stuck in a cow leg sized hole. The stupidest thing I've done that was unquestionably stupid was leaving my Gerber Fishing Tool on the back bumper of my Explorer. I went back over the places I drove with it by the pond the next day, but no luck & I was out $50. Dumb thing I've done many times is cut the main line instead of the tag when trimming my knot. I always hit myself on the head whenever I do that.
  7. Fishing related, brand fanboys that come into comparison threads & trash a reel they've never used & throw out mind blowing hyperbole(except they actually believe it) about their favorite brand reel. Also, people that "handle" reels in store & then commence to review it like they've had it on the water. I've handled reels that didn't feel that great when just playing around with them, but once on the water really shined. To me, it's like sitting in a car & fiddling with the buttons & then talking about how it drives. Non-fishing related, people that turn on their blinker right as they're turning. I'd seriously like to be able to go up to people that do that & window shot them. You obviously know you should use your blinker, yet you don't turn it on until you're turning, so what's the freaking point! People that live on their cell phones. My brother has showed up to hang out before for a couple hours & he spends over half the time walking around the house or yard yacking on the phone or playing with text messages.
  8. You have to clear your browsing history cache. I have mine set to clear it every time I close my browser, you'll see your old avatar until the old one gets cleared from your cache, which varies by your settings & how much stuff gets loaded by your browser.
  9. Sebile has some BIG lipless baits. http://www.sebileusa.com/flattShad.php Edit: http://www.rapala.com/Clackin-Rap/Clackin%20Rap,default,pd.html?start=3&cgid=rapala-lures Clackin Raps come in 3.5" & 1 3/16oz.
  10. I'm all for getting rid of lead, if there's a non-toxic alternative that's as effective & affordable as it to take it's place, which there isn't as far as I know. Tungsten is expensive & can't be poured onto hooks without damaging them, which I think is a downfall for steel & brass as well. You'd think in this day & age with all the fancy alloys & compounds they could develop something that has the same characteristics as lead without the toxicity & high costs, but apparently not.
  11. I wouldn't hesitate to give one a try, I've got 2 of the TW Powell rods & a Max & they're great rods for the money. Unfortunately all the rods they have are in lengths, powers, & actions I already have way too many of, so there's nothing that really interests me ATM. It's the way they're marketing them, trying to say you're getting a much higher grade rod for less because it doesn't have a warranty. I'd rather they be upfront with the warranty than hide it in the fine print & tell you "SOL" if your rod breaks.
  12. I'll let you know when I get mine that I just ordered. $102 on Amazon from Red's Gear BTW.
  13. My primary spinnerbait/chatterbait rod(3/8-3/4oz baits) this year will be a 6'10" MH Fenwick Elite Tech Spinnerbait rod with a Morrum SX3600C(5.3:1) spooled with 15lb Izorline Platinum. If I'm going lighter I'll probably throw them on one of my M set-ups(Premier on 6'10" M F Smallmouth ETech with 12 Trilene Hi-Test & CU50E on 682 Powell Max with 10 Trilene 100%) & throw heavier baits with my Winch on 7' MH Cabela's XML Spinnerbait rod with 20lb Trilene XL Armour Coat.
  14. Like a lot of things related to fishing, it only makes a difference if you think it makes a difference. I bought a lot of red hooks when I first got back into fishing, but have gone back to the standard hooks after watching them chip like crazy & not make any meaningful difference from my perspective.
  15. Whether you're talking spinning or casting, I don't think you can go wrong. I have a 64WLP & I really like it for heavier line/lures, it'll be on my Powell Paddletail rod this year with some 17 or 20lb fluorocarbon. But I wouldn't suggest the widespool if you're looking to cast lighter t-rigs, jigs, etc, since I really struggle when I dropped below 3/8oz & I'm assuming the regular size spools will handle lighter lines/lures better. I imagine the XT is really great, since it's pretty close to a Premier with a really sharp look to it. I'd really like to get one at some point, but I missed out on a couple I saw for under $150 & I struggle to pull the trigger on it at around $200, since I can score another Premier for that price.
