  1. That could happen!!!! I'm 2.5 hours away but I know the way. I go to the Washington Ag center in Boonesboro when they have their show in late January and it isn't too far from Hagerstown.

  3. Be careful of what you get. The fine cut material from Living Rubber Co. is different than the fine or finesse cut from fishingskirts.com . The fine cut material from Living Rubber Co. is the same thickness and has the same number of strands as a regular tab. The tab however is only half as wide because the strands are only half as wide. The finesse cut material from fishing skirts looks like a normal tab with the same dimensions and strand count. The difference is the thickness, if you put two of those tabs together back to back it would be the same thickness as a regular tab. Living rubber fine cut is what is known as "frogs hair" silicone, the fishing skirts fine or finesse cut is not "frogs hair" as the strands are the same width as a normal tab, it is the thickness that is different.
  4. That is a fantastic hair jig if I ever saw one!!! It has a great profile and it looks as if there is a red or orange throat patch, excellent attention to detail!!!
  5. Living rubber co. sells fine cut (frogs hair) silicone tabs. They have 20 strands just like a full tab but they aren't as wide. The thinner strands make it look like a regular tab that was cut in half.
  6. I really like the Smithwick Rattlin' Rogue Elite 8 for that depth profile. The Elite 8 runs 6' - 8' depending on line size and type. I fish that bait on 10lb mono and it dives just a hair deeper than 6'. If you use 8lb fluorocarbon you can get it to 8'. Chrome/black back and orange belly is a great all purpose color but there are translucent options as well and the clown pattern is one of my favorites.
  7. Not all blades are thin because they are cheap. There are thin blades being made with brass with a shallow cup for slow rolling. The shallow cup spins at slower speeds and the thin blade produces less lift. If you need a thick gauge blade in order to spin better it is because the swivel is cheap, not always the blade. There are 4 main spinner blade manufacturers and they are all quality, Worth, Lakeland, Hagen's, and Hildebrandt. Hildebrandt specializes in sterling silver and 24 carat gold plated blades that are highly polished and the most expensive blades but aren't thick gauge brass. Oddly some of the thickest blades are the cheapest as they are steel blades which are better for painting. They are thicker because they are lighter than brass which is why they are used for painting as well as the added weight doesn't hurt.
  8. I liked them all except for the Gamakatsu, I lost a lot of fish on that hook. For the last several years I've been using the VMC 7250 black nickel, it is an awesome hook!!! The hook is strong with a good point that has taken more abuse off of rock without folding over or becoming dull than any other hook.
  9. I don't know how you are painting them but you are getting too much paint on, it isn't the curing temp. The next thing is 200 degrees won't cure those jig, you need about 225 and at that temp they would need to cure for 1.5 hours. If you aren't using a fluid bed you may want to go that route as you will get a thinner more even coat. If you are using a fluid bed then you are holding the jig in the powder too long or you are getting the jig too hot. The last thing is your curing oven, if you are using a toaster oven you'll need to check the temp with an oven thermometer. Toaster ovens, even when brand new, are often off 10 degree or more than what the dial setting is. I had an over that when set at 325 was perfect for curing as the oven thermometer was reading 354 degrees, 29 degrees difference.
  10. Do-it molds is also carrying them. From what I've heard is that the company was started by two guys, one worked for Mustad and the other for Matzuo. I do not know how true that is but I'm going to give them a try myself.
  11. The best thing to do is to get a small pack of blades in the two sizes you need. Then make a few baits and compare them to see the difference. It doesn't always translate to catching more fish but at times it makes a difference. For me, I don't use real gold plated, or sterling silver plated blades but I do like polished brass and polished nickel. The polished brass blades don't have the same amount of flash that gold has but they still produce a lot more than ordinary brass blades. One last premium blade finish you might want to try is one I call the "equalizer". Copper plated blades will often catch fish right behind someone fishing a spinnerbait too, they aren't used a lot and they work really well.
  12. Polished brass works fine but gold is different. Gold blades have a much brighter flash and it isn't even close. Gold also doesn't need much sun to create that flash which is why they seem to produce better on overcast days. Black nickel is one of my favorite blade finishes especially on smaller 1/4oz spinnerbaits I use in clear water. I make a bait that is a smoke and pearl combination with a single black nickel willow blade that is really good in clear water. Black nickel is different than black because it produces incredible flash but it is different than a nickel or even a sterling silver blade, more subtle which is why it works in clear water.
  13. Bluebasser86 is correct, Eagle Claw hooks are very good now. However if you are stuck on brand then yes, there are plenty of alternatives that will fit. The Gamakatsu 114 should work as should the Mustad 32746.
  14. River Rock Custom Baits 2.75" tubes are the best tubes I've ever used hands down.
  15. This^^^^!!!! I think you'll need to worry more about taxes than copyright infringement. There is not only sales tax but state and local taxes not to mention the big one, FET otherwise known as Federal Excise Tax. Get caught selling lures online and not having a tax ID # and records of what you sold and you can be in a world of hurt.
  16. That looks like a Nichols Old School Hologram. The only problem is that it would have to be an older version since the newer ones have eye sockets and 3D eyes. I don't know if they made the hologram model before they added eyes to the head but it certainly looks like it.
  17. That hook isn't going to cut it for what he wants. That hook is on par with the Mustad 32886 and the Eagle Claw 3886. They are all swim jig hooks but Mustad lists the 32886 as a "light flipping hook", that isn't anywhere close to punching.
  18. Owner Twist lock Open Gap worm hook!!! 3X forged shank and a 30 degree bend. If you want it to pour in a mold simply take the screw lock off. The heaviest 30 degree hook you'll get specifically for a jig is the Mustad 32850 but it has a sickle style bend which isn't ideal for punching.
  19. I think he is trying to mimic the pumpkinseed sunfish rather than the color pumpkinseed. I thought the same thing you did, pumpkinseed is a light brown with black speckles. I'll admit it took a few seconds after seeing the head before I realized what he was doing. I think the head looks great but needs a bit more smaller red spots.
  20. The craw styles are different because they are used in different applications. Craws that have claws with ridges or curly appendages are designed to draw strikes based on action. They are best used when fish are more active or in water with limited visibility. The slender, more realistic style craws are used more when the profile becomes more important. They are better in clear water environments and when fish aren't as active. Of course these are just generalizations as there are always exceptions.

  22. The Mustad 32500 is heavier than the Eagle Claw 500BP lil nasty. The Mustad version is a sickle style hook but it really is more like a hybrid between a round bend and sickle. The angles are a little more rounded so you have a little larger gap than the sickle. I have used a lot of the EC Lil Nasty and only had 2 that were bad, are you sure the place you got them from didn't sell you old stock Matzuo? I had a lot of Matzuo sickles that were bad, the worst batch was 311 out of 1000 that were unusable, 31%. I stopped using them until EC came out with their version.
  23. They are new and you can only get them direct from Gamakatsu right now. I emailed them to find out the wire diameter on that hook a couple weeks ago and still haven't heard back. I'm guessing that these aren't going to be available from other sources until sometime after January. The good thing is you can get them but they are very expensive.
  24. You're reeling it too fast and there could also be a problem with the trailer. Grubs that are long enough to be a trailer often have a heavy body. If the grub body is too large it could throw the balance off in a big way. Try it without the grub first, if it still rolls over try slowing down.
  25. For a 3/8oz double willow I use a #3.5 willow on the clevis and a #4 on the swivel. Go larger and you really have to slow roll the bait because it will have too much torque and cause the bait to lean over on retrieve. You can get away with a #3.5 on the clevis and a #4.5 on the swivel but that would be the largest I would go.
