  1. Chatterbaits and jigs? Do they have your baits in their online storefront?
  2. @joefish and I hit up La Cygne today from 9:00 to 3:00. Thanks for letting me tag along...was a good time. Good smoke from the stack pulling in, so we were hoping that was a good sign. Final score: @joefish - 1 bass @superfluke - 2 bass (1 drum, 1 crappie, 1 white) Yeah, baby! We killed 'em! Started at the hot water outlet. Water temps in the mid 60s there. Snagged a white and that was it. Fished north of the outlet and up the river, which is where all our fish came from. We caught them all on a $50 Prototype Castastic Super Sexy KVD Live Target Bluegill Banjo Minnow also known as a Ned Rig. Got on a decent drum bite on the rip rap near the end of the day, so there's that. Lots of boats out there, probably 10 trailers when we arrived and 20 when we left. I personally tried all of the following at some point during the day - jerkbait, spinnerbait, chatterbait, jig/pig, tube, 4" worm, fluke, frog, trap, wiggle wart, and squarebill. Not a bite on anything but the Ned. Live bait was producing. Couple guys caught a nice bass right next to us with minnow under a bobber. Also saw two dinks caught on a crappie tube before we switched to the Ned. Good luck, @pbrussel! My only advice would be to stay away from the usual banks north of the outlet. Pic of my best of the day. Ned in less than 5' of water.
  3. Looked at the 10-day forecast, and the boat is definitely coming out of storage this week. It needs a water pump and an oil change, so it's going straight to the shop. Should be ready to go by the weekend of Mar. 22. Man, I can't wait to get back out there.
  4. I'm out. Thinly staffed that day, so I'll be stuck in the office. Hope you guys get some warm weather!
  5. Trying to get the day off, but probably won't make it. Would have an open seat if I did. Will let you all know.
  6. Anybody going out Monday and have an open seat?
  7. You should change the quote on the bottom of your posts to "I'd wash the skunk off but I don't have the $2 to pay for the car wash"
  8. Melvern and no vote cause I won't be able to go
  9. I probably won't be able to make one in May, but I'd be able to do a one day event in March.
  10. If I wanted to know what it was like to live in Iowa, I would have moved there.
  11. Did you try going up the river at all? I've heard some promising reports from a neighbor that has some land up past the bridge. He's been bank fishing and doing alright on crappie and some other species when there's been enough free water. Wash the skunk off? Mine's in hibernation as well.
  12. Congratulations! Very fitting name for a guy that will surely be spending a lot of time on the boat with you. Glad that you were able to get him home before Christmas.
  13. Started at Melvern. Threw a spoon, ned, spinnerbait. One white on the spoon. Marked a school of whites on the lowrance. Catch one and they leave. Cruised the dam lookin for shad and found the mother load. First cast hooked up.... huge shad. Shad left. Buddy is cold, so we decide to trailer to wolf creek. Wolf Creek lots of boats. Nothing happening by the outlet. Head south. Water is in mid 40s. Knew I was in trouble. Had one slam a jerkbait and come off at the boat. Two other hookups on the tube... lost em both. Had to head back...skunked. Wish I would have fished north of outlet.... Cleaned the boat up... done for the year as a boater so the wife can have the garage back. See you all next spring (hopefully). Wife is due in April.
  14. Anybody heading out today or tomorrow? I'll probably be at wolf creek out somewhere tomorrow morning.
  15. Humminbird just started supporting Ethernet networking on their units. If you buy two newer units that are at least a 700 series or higher, you'll be able to network them together with a single Ethernet cable (plus an adapter or two for 700 series units). Of course, the cable will have proprietary Humminbird connectors (ends), which forces you to buy the expensive Humminbird cable rather than buying a regular ethernet cable for $5. Lowrance has had this for all their HDS units for awhile and Humminbird is just starting to catch up in this regard. http://store.humminbird.com/media/document/Ethernet_Manual.pdf Prior to this (and still applicable for sub-700 series units), the only way to connect multiple Humminbirds together was/is through the InterLink module. This is a ridiculously priced ($200) router that allows Humminbirds to talk to one another. On top of buying the box, you have to buy additional cables to connect it all together. Kind of ridiculous that they make you pay more to get networking for the more budget-conscious units. I had a 597ci DI at the console and a 788ci Combo at the bow. I just wanted to be able to share waypoints from one to the other, so I just bought an SD card that I would keep in the console unit. Anytime I marked a waypoint at the console, I would export that waypoint to my card and take the card to the bow when I started to fish. The import is really quick and easy, so I would then have the units in-sync from a waypoint perspective. Kind of a poor man's way of doing it, but it was good enough for me. I have networked HDS units now, and I love 'em. It's great to be able to see both the trolling motor and transom sonar displays at the same time on the same unit as well as share waypoints seamlessly. Hope that helps...
  16. Just my two cents, but I wouldn't do it. Even if you find a good place to mount it you're not going to want to be swinging your head around towards your console to look at the graph every few seconds. I know that from experience. You're also going to get pretty sick of moving the unit all the time when you're on the water. Why not wait just a little bit and get a second unit for the bow that is just a 2d sonar with gps. Something like a 597ci HD combo or 788ci combo for sale. That's the one that I put on my bow on my last boat. IMO, it's worth it for the convenience. You don't get SI or DI at the bow, but at least you can share waypoints (with interlink or just an sd card) between units and see what's underneath you.
  17. Bluebasser86 and I made an early morning trip to Wolf Creek yesterday. The weather was supposed to be nice most of the day, but of course about two hours after getting on the water the wind started howling out of the north and it was raining/sleeting/hailing on us for the rest of the time out there. Sizzle, the fog was way worse than when they wouldn't let us out there a few weeks ago. The did end up paging us off the water eventually as the wind and fog were getting pretty bad. As for the fishing, we started by the hot water discharge where there was some nice 75 degree water. Bluebasser86 outfished me from the back of the boat by the outlet. He caught three nice largemouth on fluke, tube, spinnerbait. I got desperate and threw the ned rig and caught a drum, channel cat and a small LM. Moved downlake and started getting into the smallmouth pretty good. I'd say we put close to 20 in the boat before we left on tubes and jerkbaits. Thanks for the trip, Blue. It was a good time even with the way the weather turned out. Sorry, no pics from me due to the weather.

  19. Took my beautiful wife with me today. Knew we were heading south on I-35, but wasn't sure where we were going until I saw Blue's post early this AM. We were the 5th (of about 20 when I left) boats on the water around 9 a.m., and for the first time ever Wolf Creek was 100% calm. Like glass. Hit up the "spot" first, and I hooked up on my 2nd cast with a tube and my wife hooked up on her 1st. Landed one of those, which was a solid 2lb smallmouth. Went down the bank and caught a few more, probably putting 5 in the boat after sticking 10-12. Tried a couple more spots that I know about, including the roadbed pictured below. Pretty cool how you can see how the two lanes are starting to shift. No fish there, although I did see a few drum swimming around. I've painted over the GPS panel, but I'm sure most of you will still be able to guess where this is. It got crowded, so I ran uplake to check out the timber. I've been on Wolf Creek probably half a dozen times, but never went north of the outlet. Completely different lake up there, including muddy water and water temps in the upper 60s thanks to some enriched uranium. This is compared to 56 degrees on the south end. Didn't catch any largemouth like I had hoped, but the white bass were literally jumping into the boat. We caught probably 30, and then suddenly my wife hooked into a smallmouth. Decent sized fish hanging out in about 2ft of water with a bunch of white bass. . Let a couple guys in a Tracker share the wealth as they seemed to be struggling a bit. Seemed like they were getting into them pretty good as we left. All in all, a pretty fun day on the water. Just a heads up that KDWP was there to check livewells and licenses at the ramp as we left. Will be back out on Mon. trying to beat the cold front. Not sure where we're going or what species we'll be targeting, but I'll be sure to fill you all in.
  20. Pretty awesome! I used to have a 14' aluminum pond boat. I would have loved to have a foot-controlled trolling motor but that was because I started fishing bigger lakes that had a lot of wind. It's hard to hold your boat in place without a foot controlled trolling motor in the wind. If you don't fish in lakes with a ton of wind, you probably don't need it. I ended up selling my small boat and upgrading to a larger boat. If you can do that, then save your money to get the boat that you want.
  21. It's not the Members I care about, it's the lurkers. At one point I saw 7 guests that were reading this topic the night that Sizzle and I posted our report. Check out the image now
  22. Dangit, Blue. Can't I just have one spot that you don't know about? I'll make sure to blur out the background in the future.
