  1. Looking for something for the wife right now, and getting really frustrated. She wants something with a 3rd row, I want something that won't kill us on fuel. She would do a van (two kids), but I'm not ready for that yet. Not trying to spend much north of 13k, but the pricing on used cars has gotten crazy since the economy tanked and every quit buying new. I dead set on the Acura MDX, theres a few here locally with the right/miles and price. After doing some research, I see that they only recomend 93 octane. We also liked the volvo XC90's, but the dang parts are outrageous (shocks are $400 I'm told). I love Honda, but the asking prices for their SUV's (Pilot) are ridiculous. I know "Its a Honda", but dang. Any ideas? I've owned an explorer before, and honestly it was one of the most dependable vehicles I've owned. There are some 3rd row seat models out there at decent pricing. From what I gather, on a used SUV the explorers give you pretty good value. Any advice or thoughts?
  2. Again no absolutes. But generally, yes. Big O hit on the fact that larger lures will draw fish from farther away. One of the reasons I like throwing large topwater baits. The "big fish are lazy and won't chase a fast bait or move very far for a meal" theory is bunk. I've seen big fish chase buzzbaits, rattlebaits. etc in very shallow water over 40'. And that's just the one's I've been able to see. We underestimate bass.
  3. Best overall line there is all things considered IMO.It excels at a lot of things, at a great price. It will not pull the nose down on a topwater like 100% flouros.
  4. I can see where your coming from, especially with the handling. I still think it acts more like a superline due to the thin diameter/strength, low stretch, floating, tight line sensitivity, etc. It definetely is smoother than PE lines. Either way, I think we both can agree its a good line.
  5. It's really very minimal extra trouble. I should add that i use leaders, so i lose very very little line to breakoffs, retieing, abrasion, etc. I bought a 300 yard spool of braid 3 years ago thats kept 2 reels in use and i still have some on the filler spool.
  6. One of the coolest things I've seen in the great sport of fishing is when another larger predator will come in and grab whatever your reeling in. I've seen bass do this to other bass a few times now. Even had a big blue cat grab a 1lb bass and swim off with it once.
  7. As already stated, I use whatever cheap mono I have for the purpose of my being able to spool another reel with braid. Say you by a 125 yard pony spool, you should be able to spool two reels (depending on diameter of braid and the reel itself) with that for bass fishing. If you buy a 300 yarder, this will spool 5 reels or so, maybe 6 if you wish.
  8. It fishes similar to a braid would be the best way to start. At first its realy slick, casts unbelievably well. I mean really, really well. I was casting 1/16 crappie jigs really far on a rod that doesnt begin to load until it's over 1/8oz. It doesnt handle that great initally (better than flouro, but not like a traditonal braid). As time goes by, it handles and casts like a braid of similar diameter, losing a bit of distance but handling better. Its smoother than braid going through the guides. Its also extremely sensitive. I think if they'd up the diameter a bit the surf fisherman could use this line to absolutely launch their lures. From my 10 or so trips with it, I'm happy. Got on a really good buzzbait bite saturday using the line and it really helped me cover water thanks to the casting distance. Didnt catch any big fish, mostly males still close to the bank. But I did drag them through and over laydowns and brush quite a bit, zero signs of wear on the line. Overall the pros outweigh the cons for me. Is it gonna make me take all the PP off my spinning reels? No. But in my experience it hasnt been the junk ppl say it is. Spool it TIGHT. Tie good knots. And use a leader if you wish.
  9. Been fishing 6 or 8 (cant remember which) For 6 months. I love it. Casting distance was so improved I overcasted very often after switching from 15/4 braid. I use a 6lb cxx as a leader, and have had 0 knot issues. I throw it into wood and its hasnt shown any signs of use. Its darn good line as far as Im concerned.
  10. One thing I've noticed is it's easier to can cast lighter baits with a bit stouter rod on a spinning setup. To throw the real lite stuff on my BC's, I use a lighter powered rod. I have a certain live bait presentation that doesnt weigh much, however i fish it in the heart of cover most of the time. BCers worked ok, but the rod just didnt load and distance was limited. I have an old clearance rack pinnacle IM8 7'MH (rated for lures 1/4- 1 3/8oz) that coupled with a small diameter braid on a 6740 president is PERFECT for the technique. Line diameter and the fact that I can cast a lite weight HARD without fear of overrun are the reasons it works.
  11. "Pflueger" hasnt made their own reels in your lifetime outdoorsman.
  12. Definetely not Most traditional folks find them ridiculous looking. Youd be better off with no tie than one of those suspect lookin things.
  13. Lightning rod and a Pro qualifier. $110 bucks and will fish just as good as alot of 300 combos.
  14. Im a big fan of the rc series in any baitfish looking color. Kvds work good also.
  15. Spinning rigs-15lb PP, 8lb nanofil, 6lb gamma copoly,6lb CXX. All used interchangably for shakey heads, small Tx rigs, live bait under a bobber, crappie jigs, anything on the light side for a BC. Casting rigs-12 Hybrid for most anything, 30lb Stealth w/a leader for jigs, 15lb BPS Flouro for cranks, Trigs, and Jigs.
  16. Terrible news. Praying for his family and loved ones. It's easy to forget I think because he played so long, but 10 years into his career he was legitamately in the conversation as the best linebacker of all time.
  17. Man I hate seed ticks! Nothing worse than looking down at your legs and they're brown from the little tiny buggers. My 5 year old got covered in them last year. Stripped him down and it took almost an hour to get them off. They were every and i mean EVERY where, lol.
  18. The bigger one is actually a dang good bait for the price. I cut the ridiculous looking bristles off the top. It has a good action retrieved slow or fast, I've caught a few pigs on it waking it. It even does well worked like a jerkbait. The shad looking pattern is the one I have.
  19. I have the lighter powered of the 7' H rods and do just about everything with it.
  20. They've said this is gonna be one of the worst years on record because of the mild winter in Va endless. I've never gotten them in my yard, now we're getting them constantly. I usually keep a bottle of deepwoods off in my truck for pond/river hopping. Works like its supposed to.
  21. Clayton I thought you were chilling out on the supplements lol? I won't knock the AT jig, I just feel the grass stalker's head design is better for my use. I fish a lake where the bottom is covered with hydrilla. The only jig above 1/4oz I can cast and actually hop along the bottom without getting junk all over it CONSTANTLY.
  22. I'm aware of that. Triton mike was credited in article 4-5 years back with helping to design them, by the uncle josh rep. I honestly don't know his full role. Perry Haas does seem to me the main brain behind all of the "stalker" jigs.
  23. I've used both of them alot. The AT does okay penetrating THROUGH grass, but The UJ/BS can actually be cast and worked through the junk much, much better. In addition to going through veggies, the UJ/BS does quite well in wood. It's a really versatle jig. I throw these with a strike king perfect skirt in bluegill (tails trimmed) and a watermelon rage craw more than any other lure. These are the some of the best jigs that nobody throws.
  24. Grass stalker by seizmic(sp)/uncle josh. These and the spot stalker were designed in part by the same guy who designed the bull shad swimbait. The only jig Ive found to actually go through algae pretty darn good. Vertical line tie is the deal on grass jigs. The head is designed to kick the trailer up more also.
