  1. You can do some pretty cool things with stryofoam and superglue. (Rage lizard cough* cough*)
  2. I have an awesome job also. Construction Manager building and upgrading Cellular Networks. I make my own schedule for the most part, work from home most days. This rifle season has been great, I take my laptop in the treestand with me and work off my air card lol. Rental vehicle whenever needed, cell phone/internet card paid for it has a ton of perks. Its tough at times; there are a few late nights here and there, I catch things that roll downhill from our client/GC's that arent my fault but are my responsibilty, The computer work can get excessive. I could make more money if I were to take a PM posistion, but I'd be confined to an office everyday and lose a lot of my freedom. My kids aren't in school yet and I see them a lot. Once they start school and my wife goes back to teaching, I'm going to pursue a more high end gig that will facilitate paying off our starter home and building on some land. For the time being, I'm really happy with the way things are.
  3. Wouldny worry much about handle spin. Adding a bearing to the knobs is the most significant thing I've done to make a reel noticeably smoother. I only had one extra bearing and added it to the knob on a pro qualifier tournament and it made such a big difference I ordered another. You can literally blow on it and make them spin now.
  4. This reaks of a publicity stunt by AE, and if it is it'll work perfectly. The Robertsons seem like good folks that have actual morals and values. Regardless of your views Phil made an articulate, explanation of HIS beliefs that were respectful to others. Most of the time the people who make the stink about these things deep down are not TRUELY hurt in anyway. Its a smug, elitest, "I'm better than you by calling out what part of society/the media calls injustices" mentality. The show itself, not for me. Way to contrived and scripted.
  5. That's great clayton. Looks like your boy loves it! Blueticks and redticks are beatiful dogs, its great to see something other than a walker these days lol. Wait to yall run a bobcat, really cool to see up the tree if you get one tgat doesn't jump out everytime you approach. Have you ever listened to Jerry Clower? Tons a good clean coonhunting stories. Youtube " coonhunting monkey jerry clower".
  6. The originals work better for me also..The components ain't so great (rust, hooks get dull) but they're so cheap and the alternatives just don't catch as many fish for me. The way I look at it, they're so snagless 3-4 at the tune 14 bucks or so lasts me all season and into the nexy year if not rusted...So I can live with it lol knowing they have the right action.
  7. Grew up hunting black and tans. My grandfather had 5 grand nite champs back in the day. Didnt know hides were bringing anything anymore. I used to keep them when I was 13-14..A good coon (shot not trapped) brought about $15 then. Not to bust balls or anything, but most coonhunters don't belive in shotting them unless their up a tree. Kind of like bird hunters only shooting them in flight. If he can handle himself on the ground with the dogs he's earned that right. The old guys never let a dog mouth a coon unless he tree'd it. Kind of a reward that motivates to look up the tree and know when they crossover other trees and stuff.
  8. I hear ya on the part about him not showing up where he should have. Theres more stories about guys using the bathroom and bulwinkle walking up lol. I've had a lot of solitary bucks just show up from thin air like that. You hunt a stand and think you have them patterned and boom hes on you when/where you dont expect. Had a young 9 pt do it yesterday to me. I could sense deer moving in to my right but couldn't move to look as he stared me down for about 5 long minutes. The wind kept swirling and he was nerved up for half an hour just staring at 25 yards as other deer moved in.
  9. Has anyone else noticed these are getting harder to come by? They can still be found quite easily online, but BPS, walmart, dicks, and a few other well stocked local shops no longer stock them...I've noticed they've started popping up on purefishing's outlet website as well as being clearanced elsewhere and its got me concerned something may be up. I know berkley changed quanities on they're baits recently. I pray this just due to a sku change or something.
  10. He'd still be better than anyone on CBS...PHIL SIMMS, GREG GUMBEL, DAN DIERDORF...Those guys have always been about as exciting as a doorknob lol.
  11. Great bait...My grandfather caught some huge fish on them in the 90's. Just SLOWLY dragging them with a light bullet weight out front. They are THE bait to use on a chatterbait...lift and drop and let those legs flutter. No other craw/paddle tail type trailer can match them. I pinch the "skirt" off the grub and use the silicone skirt. GY makes a twin tail grub also, but I get the hula grub since it can be used for more techniques.
  12. The blanks are really big for their respective powers. The MH fast action is the diameter of a H glass rod. This is by no means indicative of performance but it was enough to keep me from buying one. Diawa has made some really nice under the radar rods over the years and have several new options that look promising for under $100.I
  13. It makes you wonder, if a lot of micro guide rods have dang near double the guides, are you REALLY saving weight? From a raw material stand point, no. They're not a deal breaker for me, but having owned the exact rod with and without micros, conventional are my preference.
  14. About the only time is when I take a kid and want to go mutlispecies. You sure can catch a lot of big crappie on a 1/8-1/4oz cranks.
  15. Secret weapon lures or strike king bluegill skirt and a twin tail gybc hula grub doctored up with a blue spike it pen. The added weight of the yammo plastic allows you to cast it a bit better/more accurately. Personally I've found the way a twin tail undulates and "ripples" is better than a rage craw style design or the like on a chatterbait.
  16. Could be off base here, but isn't the composition of water content going to be different at an established body of water vs a tank, and therefore make a bait more or less bouyant in the field? Seems like rotting vegetation, current (higher oxygen), etc. would have to have an effect when your looking for that miniscule range to get a bait to truly suspend.
  17. Love a fiberglass crank rod for everything but squarebills. If you consistently are hooking into big fish on long casts with rattlebaits glass rods are just a better tool in my opinion. I can feel everything I need to including changes in bottom composistion, deflecting off cover, etc. That said, not every glass rod or the line its throwing are the same.
  18. No clue about the BC's but the spinning reels are very good for the price.
  19. President is no slouch, but the orra is the best sub $100 spinner you'll find IMO.
  20. Dartanium is the only material I've seen actually breakdown and come apart. This happened to me once on a two year old reel, but none the less carbontex is so cheap I figure why not. I will say the stiock shimano drag is just as smooth out if the box than any other brand I own.
  21. Its my understanding its residents only to put in at the restaurant now. They closed the put in over by Genito. I'm fortunate to have a couple yards we carry our johnboats through. I honestly don't know what to tell you for public acess anymore, maybe talk to a brandermill resident about getting a pass through them. The fishing doesnt suck, if you look at the dgif website more citation LMB and pickerel come out of there than anywhere (at least when i checked a couple years ago), you just gotta be on the channel in the mainlake, and in the right shallow/back water areas at the right times. I have noticed that since the carp were released and the milfoil is gone the pike seem to have gradually disappeared. However the quanity of bass seems to have also decreased, but my buddy and I have caught a lot more solid 3-4lbrs.
  22. He's caught 47 balls through 9 games that's pretty dang good. My point is he's perfect for Reids O.
  23. Jamal charles is the new brian westbrook. Guy never got enogh credit IMO. As a Dallas fan I watched many of those screen passes he caught then turn upfield and blow by the D over the years.
  24. It will be interesting to see how the afc plays out. Peyton hasnt faired too well over the years against good defensive teams come playoff time. Other than the chiefs nobody matches up well with Denver. New Englands D lost its heart and soul when Wilfork went down.
  25. This is what I use and where/why. Traps/cordell spots- shallow flats. Spots don't cast quite as well but fall slower"/run shallower Yozuri rattlin vibe-in my experience the most productive overall rattlebait. At 5/8 it will launch into orbit. Red eye shad- anywhere but I'm also pumping it up and down to get that shimmy on the fall.
