  1. I handled 4 orras and they all felt pretty good, no grinding but the one I got had more free and easier spinning knob on it so I went with it. The others were fine, but the one I got you could dang near blow on it and get it to spin (the knob itself not the handle) probably just a little less grease or oil. If you want to check them out dicks has them in the blister packs were you can crank them 1st. Personally I only buy rods and reels I can touch in person Ive seen some drastic differences in reels amongst the same models.
  2. Ive had decent luck with the shakeyworm and great luck with the turtleback worms. They dont undulate like other plastics but that can be a good thing. Ive have days where I went through several bags of the turtlebacks in cherryseed. I think they imitate the newt/salamanders that are present in shallow water in early spring. (Color and SLOW action).
  3. Spent alot of time comparing the sx and symetre and got the orra sx. Its hard to put into words but the symetres just took more effort to get started cranking. That really bugged me for some reason. Ive noticed other spinners have the same issue and I think its just an overgreased on the main gear. However past issues with a previous gen sahara mysteriously seizing up at random times made me weary. The orra is a little gem. Smooth and has an outstanding drag. I also like the one peice gearbox as its easy to pop it off and get to the maingear for maintenance if you choose. They are a better reel than the next abu spinner up in price range, the revo s IMO. I think if abu would have given them a different name they would be getting a lot more press. Completely mental on my part as Im sure their good reels, but association with a lower end BC made me over look them.
  4. I use the yozuri flouro leaders and like it alot. Knots hold well and its supposed to have better clarity than the castable stuff. You can drag it over and through most anything without noticing any abrasion via "the fingertip" test.
  5. I like the gambler giggy head. The "pill" shaped head and line tie just seems to come through algae and wood better than other jigs Ive tried. Nice gamakatsu hook and colors to match plastics.
  6. I have the orra sx and compared the two and theyre both very nice reels with outstanding drags. Id go with a 10-15 braid and roll with it. You may also want to email abu about sending you a spare spool. Mine came in the blister pack without one, abu sent me a free one in 3 days.
  7. Learned the hard way with acetone and plastics...I put my bearings in a spare contact case of my wife's. Opened the lid and there was plastic goo everywhere. Now I use only Naptha.
  8. Its about as good as it gets as a do it all line.
  9. Quantum has come a long ways in the last 6-7 years. They have been very proactive and do seem to listen to the consumer. They have a bad name to many from some past issues. To some like my buddy they "will always be a souped up zebco". It seems no matter what they do they still have that stink on their hang down to certain vocal individuals. By all accounts the last few gens of PT's have been good solid reels. The spinning reels are VERY popular with the saltwater guys, which says something regarding the build quality.
  10. It was good game.Hats off to the Dallas D they played their butt off, shame the offense put them in such a tight spot with those 2 early turnovers. If Dallas had been able to get into field goal range that goal line stand/decision to go for it would have been talked about for awhile.
  11. Running back value is at an all-time low, they are absolutely a dime a dozen speaking in "value" terms. Compared to filling a hole at most any posistion except possibly WR (which there are 2-3 times as many gigs available) its easier to get a serviceable starter at RB than ANYWHERE. Most good backs dont produce into their late 20's...Teams no longer sign backs to another contract after the rookie deal and know that they can find an impact back 100 players deep in the draft. And the running back by committee isn't always because there's a drop off from one player to the next. There are a lot of guys who could shine statswise if they weren't sharing carries.
  12. Deangelo Williams has been in a committee for years with johnathan stewart, both of which have had 1000 yard seasons proving my point. How many "great" backs have won a superbowl since Marshall faulk? You don't want scrubs out there obviously but put a good O line out there and at least one back on a 53 man roster can rack up some yards. Its a passing league now. Run all you want, but with manning, brees, Brady, foles, etc going all video game on you like happens the majority of the time you can't keep up. Not to undervalue defense obviously.
  13. There are more than a few "10 bearings reels" that don't have 10.
  14. Passing yards allowed is indicative of the offense that the team has when the D comes off the field. Traditionally the saints, pats, etc that throw well have D's that are thrown at nonstop. Not necesarily "bad", just conservative play calling and attacking up tempo offenses. Everyones clamoring for Dallas to feed murray, I don't think its that simple. Personally I feel that in today's NFL the running game is becoming less and less important. Backs are a dime a dozen and theres less and less 1-2 rd picks as teams know that theyre not worth the investment. Dont get me wrong In situational football like short yardage and clock killing it is still a great tool. However the short passing game is essentially alot of teams running attack. 15 years ago if your back got 150 yards you were likely to win, not so much today. If you follow the old template of "establishing the run early", you will likely have 2-3 punts and be down 0-14 before halftime.
  15. A legit question..... I bought a $100 Abu spinning reel out of the blister pack that didn't come with a spare spool (the box version does). Abu customer service stepped up and I had one free of charge in 3 days.
  16. Most times the big manufacturers offer a color "close enough" to match the forage or water clarity I need. I have run into a few situations where I'd like a certain color that isn't available. For example I think there aren't enough straight up white baitfish looking patterns. Something like rapalas glass ghost in the x-rap series is such a great versatile color for multiple species and enviroments.
  17. I dont think they have much of a liking for water, though they could be around the shores sunning themselves and eating bugs. There are plenty of newts and salamanders in the water however. A few of the ponds around here have them. Little 4" Crimson red buggers are common in the shallows in extreme early spring. BPS used to make a 4" or so lizard in the right color that got annilated. I now use berkley gulp turtle back worms in "cherry seed", works very very well.
  18. I agree 100%. Lee is as good as it gets in maintaining coverage assignments and jumping underneath routes. If Lee cant go and carter has to play the mike McCoy may go off. Carter is one of the fastest LB's in football (he caught julio jones from behind) but he can be fooled in coverage. Danny Woodhead and the chargers put a hurting on him earlier this year with 2 TDs. On a positive note return ace and 3wr Dwayne harris is back this week. Beasley has made some clutch catches but Harris is special with the ball in his hands. A big reason they've struggled lately is they've been losing the field position battle. I've always felt he should get the ball more.
  19. Dallas sporting news is reporting as of 2 hours ago Sean Lee is "day to day" according to Garrett and it will take a few days before they know.
  20. The Dallas D is starting to get some people back. All 3 starting lb's have been out lately. Sims just got scratched for sunday, but wilber is just as good. Carter returned and played his butt off sunday and Sean Lee may return this week; that's a key to watch. The defense is capable of being much better than the stats indicate. Yes they give up yards but lost is the fact that they take the ball away, especially when theres a passrush. The weak links are an as of late absentee pass rush (ware looks OLD) and playing rookie SS types (wilcox/heath) in centerfield. If kiffin and marinelli can find someway to get pressure, like when they beat the brakes off philly earlier this year it could be interesting. On the other hand if Orton starts who knows what will happen. Heck if Romo starts who knows what will happen for that matter.
  21. Now Garret is saying Romo is day to day.
  22. Romo is out for the season..Orton is on deck. He looked BAD in the preseason.
  23. The north was there for the taking for sure. Playoffs start next week in dallas...MAYBE* Sean Lee comes back. Philly offense will be tough with all the dallas injuries and no pass rush.
  24. I used them as a kid quite a bit. That 2" model sure will catch some numbers. I equipped my 7 year old with one and he does pretty dang good on it pond hopping with me in a jihn boat. I Checked the website and they make some neat color patterns these days.
