  2. My have so many favs... My goto is prob a brush hog type bait specifically zooms or strikekings game hogs and I love the SK space monkeys... also gotta love the ragetail craws. For worms gotta love a good ragetail anaconda curly tail and yums dingers. As for colors I have to go with junebug, green pumpkin with red flake, mardi gras purple flake and all the natural colors. For my weights I use only good colored tungsten now... I fish wheeler, wilson, pickwick, bear, and guntersville as my hometown waters and if you ignore the craw/creature baits and use only worms your in for a serious beatin on many occasions.
  3. So ill start this thing... fishing Friday on 3/2/2012 right before the storms rolled in around 4:30- 6pm. I was in a small marina called Jays Marina off of Hwy 20 in Decatur. The water is in the mid 50s and med to med dark stain. I was throwing a blue/silver LC fat smasher parallel to the bank about 15 ft out in 4-6 ft of water. I caught 4 bass in the time I was there. One at 4lbs and the others 1.5lb or less. All fish came from the depth above. I started out throwing a bluegill colored strikeking flatbill crankbait and worked it from the depth above to the bank and maybe received a bite but caught nothing. The fish immediately responded to the fat smasher. I retrived the fat smasher with pauses, directional changes, jerks and etc. The difference for me was that the fat smasher can act erratically more like a jerkbait. During pauses with the crank it just starts to float up and it just wasnt what they wanted then and there. The water themp is on the rise but is still pretty chilly for the most part and the jointed swimbait got eaten good.
  4. Anyone from North Alabama fishing Guntersville, Wheeler, Wilson, Pickwick, Bear creek, or any surrounding waters for bass post here. Post anything with any info to help your local fishing partners and friends catch more fish. Tell short specific info or tell your entire fishing day experience story. Tell us where you fished, what conditions, what you caught, with what, and how. Then we can all ask questions, get replies, make some local friends and most inportantly catch more fish!!! Thanks to all that help me with this!
  5. I have an Elite 5 DSI and I had the same issue at first. I think that I just expected to see picture like detail constantly. I wasnt impressed the first time out. The more I have used the product the more I have become a happy customer. To begin, the transducer is mounted on the trolling motor and isnt in the water during runs, its in the water when Im in 10ft or less of water most of the time. I have now had the unit for 6 months and I have seen some incredible things. When Im in shallow water there is less lrg structure to see and It functions more like a traditional sonar. However, I run it right next to a friends traditional sonar and some things look similar, but its always my unit we're using to identify the structure. Water depth always plays a part in the picture quality images being deeper is better. It took some time for me to realize how the unit and technology work, but Im now certain that I would rather have the DSI than traditional sonar. More often than not the DSI provides me with the extra data that I need to properly identify the structure. I am a medical professional that runs Catscans on a regular basis and relate the DSI to a catscan vs. traditional 2D xrays. Sometimes we get a beautiful clear picture that allows us to make a diagnosis that would not have been possible on an xray, and other times we still cant make an identification. However its always the CT that gives us the upperhand. I love the Elite 5 DSI, and recomend the product to others.
  6. I have an Elite 5 DSI and its mounted in a pelican case. I just open the case and run the power to battery using alligator clips, and the transducer down the trolling motor with a Lowrance trolling motor mounting accessory. The accessory just holds the transducer in a covering that uses a steel hose clamp. Then I just use strap tiesdown the shaft of the trolling motor. 5 min install. I also have a friend that used a small cooler just large enought to hold a 12 volt deep cycle battery, screen, wiring and transducer. He uses a cover for the screen, and a bag for the accessories and it all stores inside. When in use just attach the screen o the base on top of the cooler and run the transducer down the trolling motor like stated above. Works great. The pelican case that I use doesnt have its own power supply but most boats do. Its very easy to transposrt and will do a great job of protecting your investment from bumps dings and the elements.
