  1. 2xs. are you on tumblr?!
  2. to all things senko http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/12401-senko-faq-%C2%A0look-here-first/
  3. go outside in ur backyard at night and cast in the dark. it will force you to thumb brake the entire time....or reap a backlash when ur jig hits the yard. baitcast skipping is the same thing. thumb brake the whole time. learn what it feels like to touch the spool with ur thumb print throughout an entire cast and you are well on ur way. i don't adjust my brake settings at all...just leave'm be but add thumb brake. also focus on the spot where ur jig is first going to splash down (as opposed to focusing on the 12" gap between the dock and water. we usually focus on the final destination. when first learning to skip its easier to focus on ur first splash spot....just like when skipping a rock
  4. I think I'm due for a cleaning!
  5. we've all heard plenty of stories in person, tv, to the forums: #1 guy in a boat fishing lure x and getting skunked...#2 guy next to him boating endless fish with the same lure x but his had 'gold flakes'. on that day it clearly made the difference and guy 1 has to swallow his pride as ask guy 2 for a bait. i've never heard of 2 guys fishing an identical lure and one out fishing the other b/c he had attractant on it. i guess you never know and i may hear that story soon. we are creatures of habit so i haven't started using it b/c i know i won't stop.
  6. well said. you should pin this under a topic "Drag 101". great idea. ur probably 10+yrs ahead of the curve.
  7. x2's deep. you have the right set up but you need a longer leader. i don't mind my connection knot going into my reel as long as its small to medium=20-30lb braid to 15lb or less mono/fluro is fine. (65lb braid to 17lb fluoro connection= sucks coming thru ur guides let alone worm hole). tons of guys on here are braid to leader (spinning and bc). i went from all mono bc to braid/leader a few years ago and have never been happier. skipped 100% fluoro b/c braid lasts longer, is cheaper, and holds up much better in a backlash. 2yrs ago i went from a braid/mono leader to a braid/fluoro leader. this season i'm switching back to a braid/mono and/or braid/hybrid leader (yo zuri). reason being i had 4-6lb fluoro break at my palamor knot a few times while small stream fishing. ive been tying knots for years and am very meticulous. tying knots with light fluoro line exposed its weakness to me....its too brittle. i don't want that kind of weak link in my system. luckily i haven't lost any big fish to a braid/fluoro connection or fluoro terminal knot but i don't want too. (mono or hybrid connection knots are much easier to cinch down and they don't 'burn' near as easily). braid to fluoro has a tendency to slip in a bloodknot. an alberto connection knot works much better for braid/fluoro. either knot works well for braid to mono/hybrid connection). i'm looking forward to tying a jig on the end of mono or hybrid again with all the sensitivity, strength and non-stretch of braid behind it. another great benefits of braid to leader is that you can put a much lighter or heaver leader on depending on the circumstance ie cover (just try to stay within ur rods recommended power). it allows me to turn 6 rods into 12+. if i move from the lily pads to deep open water...i just tie on a lighter lb leader. let us know how you make out
  8. i'll be 110% satisfied if the chick and fish come in the deal
  9. i'm with traveler and long mike. my experience is when i'm not happy with a job i use all of my free time trying to find a new job. why not shoot for the moon and the stars and find a higher paying job, with less hours, on a southern type fishery.
  10. you will probably get a response if you fill out ur profile. if i was filling out a crossword puzzle i would probably try to spell 'central new york'?
  11. where's fish chris?! check out his pix and maybe shoot him a pm http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/111718-holy-snow-geese/?hl=%2Bfish+%2Bchris#entry1218816
  12. wow here's a deal for $399! http://www.gandermountain.com/modperl/product/details.cgi?pdesc=Lowrance-Elite-5-DSI-Fishfinder/Chartplotter-Combo&i=80490&aID=504E1B&merchID=4006
  13. when was that?! recently? if so i need to get there fast
  14. very nice. i used to kill it fly fishing a Black Marabou streamer w/ gold bead. i can't believe i don't see marabou used more in bass fishing. any thoughts? i see lots of plain white feathers (don't know the official kind).
  15. i also fish under 12ft. i used to throw a 3/8oz religiously. then i read how much success guys on here have with 1/4oz. the slightly lighter weight gets you a ton more hits. it helps you learn key spots where fish are holding and time of season. after you've learned a few things and get tired of all the 1/4oz bites consider bumping to 3/8-1/2oz. my general rule seems to be: heavier weight=less bites but much better quality fish. lighter weight =more bites but smaller fish. (this also applies to many lures for me: drop shotting, senko's, t-rigs etc). i don't like 5" senkos anymore b/c they catch dinks all day. whereas 6" keep the dinks away and pigs on the end of the hook. i'm fishing water under 100 acres with very stable environemnts. if i was fishing large bodies of water like lake erie, 3/8oz would be my low weight b/c the environment is less stable and can handle heavier lures.
  16. agreed w/ MH power and 6:3 reel ratio but i'd up the rod to 7'6" b/c i'm guessing ur shore bound? you can cover more water with less effort with that extra 6". if you fish from the deck of ur dad's 20ft nitro, get what you want
  17. i'm confused. is the grass green/vibrant=fish it; or brown/decomposing=forget it. maybe there are patches of green grass amongst the dead? find the green stuff and float a t-rig weightless senko (or light weight 1/16-1/8oz) down into it. dead stick w/ very light shake/twitch when ice starts to form on ur nose. or drop shot 1/8oz weight, 2-3" grub/small plastic. experiment with 8"-2ft leader. no action! let the current do the work especially in cold water.
  18. do a forum search for those two units and you have reading material for the whole winter. i just bought the 385di on sale for $258. i think now a day's its very affordable to get a combo unit (down scanning and GPS). side imaging will bump you to the $600+ range. bought mine off moo deals. they are sold out now but have lots of other models and i'm sure they will be having more spring sales to clear out last year's stock: http://moodeals.com/index.php?main_page=advanced_search_result&search_in_description=1&keyword=humminbird&x=0&y=0

  22. looks like she ate the kitchen sink too
  23. a bad day getting skunked is better than a good day on frozen water.
  24. you can't go wrong with a dobyns, st croix (premier and avid up), powell or duckett. lots of guys here love shimano's too. you can always hold them in a local dick's etc. just search the forum for 'shimano rod' and you can read tons of feedback. and search the technique+rod ie drop shot rod. jig rod. you can literally read all winter. powell and st croix handles are pretty spot on for my taste...duckett slightly longer (i even prefer), dobyns slightly shorter (better in a kayak but not as fun from shore). i like powell's quality but i would say duckett, st croix and dobyns are more sensitive. don't worry too much b/c you will like them. just get the right power and action for the technique ur using. where are you fishing? if you fish from shore or a 18ft boat go slightly long (7-7'6"). if you fish small ponds and streams you can go shorter so ur not always getting caught in trees. what technique? what kind of water? depth? heavy cover? boat..shore?
  25. its free. just use ur regular pliers: http://www.electric-bass.org/throughTheGill.htm
