  1. we all been there. stand back to evaluate and you'll come back with a new found perspective. did you read 'in search of giant bass' bill murphy? it helped me put down the power baits and focus on slow presentations=consistently larger bass. upgrading to a 6" senko helps separates the dinks from the big girls. and slow working a jig is deadly. if i only had 2 big bass lures for the rest of my life, it would be them.
  2. go to the forum search page and type 'bank fishing'. tons of great posts. treble hook hurt from shore b/c they snag so easily and you can't paddle over to free them. however rattletraps are very effect when the bite is on so i recommend using braid, and keeping stock hooks so you can just bend hooks out to get ur lure back. otherwise i'd stick with senkos and jigs=kills them. where are you in philly? i use google maps and have tons of ponds. also do you have a car? lotta good water just over the bridge. south jersey has an amazing water shed area full of bass and pickerel.
  3. 50% off? i'm all ears!
  4. http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/13845-guaranteed-to-catch-bass/ you can really use whatever plastic/hooks/line you have already. just focus on the technique
  5. i'm not gonna lie, i beat on rent'a'cars when driving them. that's all a $60k boat is to a pro. its a different story when its ur money.
  6. i have a tendency to over re-act to stupidity too. just remember its a speculation stretch here b/c there was no real evidence. i love comedy b/c it keeps me in check and helps me laugh at myself. not gonna post it b/c it has some curse words but if you want help being able to laugh at yourself over re-acting go to youtube and check out louise c.k. bit on road rage. hilarious and great perspective. keywords: "Louis CK and the ridiculousness of Road Rage, "Oh My God" HBO Special"
  7. EWG 30 or 60 deg hooks on the stupid rig=weedless http://blog.***.com/blog/bid/74504/The-Stupid-Rig-Illustrated
  8. bass love hanging in their den of sticks. i always pull at least one bass off their den by pitch a T-rigged plastic or jig. now i think i may need to carry some protection
  9. depends on what state u are in. call ur fish and game...and probably file paper work at county courthouse. it gets pretty confusing in PA but I'll give you few tips from here to help zero in what questions to ask. if i have a canoe/kayak/boat with PADDLES only: i don't need to register it with the state. i DO need a canoe/boat LAUNCH permit if on specific lakes (mostly state owned). "launch lake's" each require their OWN permit (usually only $5). if i have any motor attached (electric or gas): i need to register it (i think $35 for 2yrs. $25 there after). i still need to buy a LAUNCH permit for each specific lake. I didn't have a sales receipt from the original owner (purchased canoe off craigslist years ago). the same lady at boat registration office (in county court house) had me fill out an affidavit form. i basically had to promise the boat isn't stolen and pay sales tax on it. if everything checks out ok, they will mail a permanent registration to me in 5 weeks. fill out ur profile info and you get get alot more help to ur questions
  10. x2. if you live on a "slider jig lake", it is what it is. crankbaits might never work that well. catch and release isn't very popular in PR. that means the fish are extremely suspicious and harder to catch on larger artificial lures. it is harder to 'learn' (ie force feed) a new technique on heavily pressured/dinner plate bass. its easy for a guy from texas to say "only take out an 8" Huddleston and keep casting till you catch something!". he doesn't know there might not be any regulation in ur area...and guys come in all day with stringers of 7" bass for fish fries. you said you know where to locate fish. if you can produce ur standard slider bite, put the rod down and test new lures in that location. you probably get 2 spawns per year. are you able to land significantly larger fish on a consistent basis? that would be a good time to try power techniques. also dusk/dawn, and full moon night fishing.
  11. same lures should work at dusk, dawn, night fishing, pre-spawn and fall. follow that lead ie if they work well in 'peak times' but you can't buy a bite mid-afternoon or all summer...down size.
  12. not sure that specific brand but most call it their "reaper".
  13. only for small stuff but they are nice, knowledgeable and you know ur not getting ripped off. bring ur questions b/c they will talk and teach you anything you ask.
  14. are you fishing from shore or boat? i used to lose lots of treble lures from shore. if you use 15lb fluoro or 10lb+ braid you can usually bend out hooks and get ur lure back. i rarely lose lures from my canoe/kayak. paddle over and use a lure knocker. saves a fortune. here's my homemade one:
  15. x2 all about the thumb brake. make sure you keep ur thumb on the spool the ENTIRE cast. engage the reel and then focus 100% on feathering or 'thumb braking' the whole time. go outside in ur yard at night and practice casting and thumb breaking into the yard in the pitch black. if ur lure hits the yard w/o ur thumb on the spool you will obviously backlash. it will force you to brake till the end. short casts will force you to keep ur thumb on the spool even in the middle of the cast. the darkness really puts you in touch with ur spool like a blind man. not only helps for skipping but all around BC cast control. also alot of vid's say to focus on the target ie 12" space between the water and dock. i found this to be initially bad advice. focus on the first 'splash down' spot ur jig is going to hit. focus on the dock space after you get better. ie think about skipping a rock across a pond as a kid. you'd focus on ur first skip location and let it rip. you wouldn't focus 50ft ahead and ignore the initial 10 ft splash down spot. after you're better you'll instinctively line the whole cast up, back to front, front to back, several times like a pool shot. you'll evaluate ur cue ball, sink ball and pocket inside out...but always focus lastly on the cue ball when executing.
  16. if you must skip w/ the BC, make sure you keep ur thumb on the spool the ENTIRE cast. engage the reel and focus 100% on feathering or 'thumb braking' the whole time. go outside in ur yard at night and practice casting and thumb breaking into the yard in the pitch black. if ur lure hits the yard w/o ur thumb on the spool you will obviously backlash. it will force you to brake till the end. short casts will force you to keep ur thumb on the spool even in the middle of the cast. the darkness really puts you in touch with ur spool like a blind man. not only helps for skipping but all around BC cast control.
  17. sounds like its more experience than arrogance. you're buddy is clearly a seasoned angler and seems to prefer a challenge...which spring time fishing doesn't provide him. my only question is: can he send some of that summertime mojo knowledge crunk experience my way!?
  18. the senko works great a lot of times b/c the bass thinks they wounded the bait fish. they are happy campers when it comes floating down the water column. sometimes you can score by tossing the same 'missed' reaction bait back in the same spot but burning it out twice as fast as the speed u were using...like a bait fish saying "I gotta get the $@$& out of here!"
  19. buy "Mend-it". every site has it. also Wally world has small black rubber bands for womens hair in the cosmetic section. .97c for 200. i switch from o-rings to them. work just as well
  20. http://www.kingmarineoutboard.com/ https://maps.google.com/maps?q=marine+dealer&ll=39.762499,-75.108376&spn=0.061624,0.138016&fb=1&gl=us&hq=marine+dealer&hnear=Philadelphia,+Pennsylvania&t=m&z=13
  21. sounds like bad technique. feel bite...then reel in all slack while dropping rod parallel to water....sweep/snap 90 degrees up. if is a thin wire hook, less muscle is needed. if thick gauge hook=more elbow grease. also 12lb what? mono has alot of stretch and requires better technique. braid and/or fluoro have better hook set response
  22. buy a bottle of Mend-it. you can repair all ur plastics and fish them again. stuff is amazing
  23. catch a few fish on a worm and 'retire' it. after my retire pile gets big i pull out Mend-it and fix them all for another bass kicking
