  1. ur kinking the line when backlashing. i'd recommend braid. it doesn't backlash as easily and when you do it doesn't compromise ur whole spool ie cost you time/money/lures/and fish
  2. this sum's it up perfect. you encounter different conditions at every new body of water you fish and end up with a small anchor toolbox
  3. lots of good braids on the market. i also use PP but in hi viz yellow. makes all the difference in the world for me. i can see the line run sideways or at me much better. i used to hate those kinda sneaky bites b/c you don't feel anything. now i love knocking the snot outta'm when they try and get tricky
  4. you clearly have a good thing going! i'm guessing you're casting small trout style lures (soft plastics and 1/8oz mepps spinners etc). the 10+lb bass in that pond obviously like them. bigger rods and line usually mean bigger lures. it's nice to be able to hop a frog thru slop but remember the roots of ur success. no matter what you "upgraded" to, take one of ur proven light tackle rods too. punching is great, 1/2oz spinnerbaits are standard for most, frogging can yield hogs, 10" worms attract pigs but clearly those bass enjoy a small snack. going to 3/4" spinnerbait may mean getting a 14+lb bass on 25 days of the year. but its sounds like you have them dialed in on the other 340 days. great advice on the set ups. i'd go with 7ft MH spinning w/ 30lb braid. its strong, versatile and still casts far. attach a 8, 12, 15lb leader as needed per the lure/cover ur casting. tie straight to braid if you want but be careful b/c you can snap a rod much easier with braid (usually trying to 'unsnag' a lure. instead wrap the braid around a stick and pull directly. you can bend out the hooks and get it back. DON'T wrap around ur hand or u will bleed).
  5. Haha Like keeping ur woman happy...you have to let her think everything was HER idea!
  6. x2. they were using the right presentation. watch their rod action next time. note if they were dead sticking, hopping, dragging w/ pauses. and if you can't read their cards just ask. even the most cold hearted friend will give you a tip after he gets a good 30 min laugh on ya.
  7. you better be one heck of a salesman. pro's say "never leave fish to go find fish". and ur basically asking someone else to leave fish so you can find fish. i just don't see it happening unless you bring ur wallet
  8. don't power ur phone up when wet (sounds like it may be too late). stick it in a can/zip lock full of rice all night. only power it up after its dried out.
  9. sounds like you got 2 choices: 1 buy a boat or 2 learn how to shallow water fish
  10. lots of threads on this topic. my advice would be put up some nice youtube vids in HD with good editing. at the very least you should have free soft plastics in no time
  11. sucks to hear. good idea dragging for ur rod. does ur phone work ok? if not try the rice trick
  12. 7 generations of live bait using! i totally agree sam, being a great angler definitely takes higher brain function.
  13. i agree and at the same time know some good ole red neck boys that didn't go passed the 8th grade. they can out multi-species fish most of the people i know. sometimes common sense, quick learning curves and a keen sense of observation go a long way
  14. looks like you've answered ur own question. put down all the power baits and start finessing. slow and weightless presentations, drop shot, Mepps spinners, split shot. keep ur power lures handy for dusk, dawn or night fishing.
  15. this is my first season using electronics on my canoe. its not all that is cracked up to be. granted i'm still learning but i'm using all of my past knowledge about reading above water clues to find fish. and then try to search those areas deeper with the FF. the number 1 thing i would recommend is getting out with other fisherman. nothing will expose you to so many new tricks, tips, techniques, lures, knowledge etc. you can learn more in one day with another angler than being out 50 days by yourself. try to find some members from ur area.
  16. welcome to the site trey!
  17. i have a 3lb grappling anchor for my kayak. it holds good in weeds but its more like slow drift fishing in rocks. and fast drift fishing on 10+mph days (i would NOT spend the $25 on it again). i wouldn't recommend spending money on a dumbbell. save the money and put it toward a real anchor (8lb mushroom holds my kayak and canoe firm in all conditions). type 'kayak anchor' in the forum search. lots of creative free ideas like drift socks, 5lb bucket drift, rope with old back pack that you fill with stones depending on conditions and just empty at end of day etc. you will get a better feel for what you need depending on ur conditions. i like to fish windy days so the 8lb mushroom and anchor trolley system ($8) are perfect. nothing like having the right equipment for the job. canoe's are taller and have more wind resistance. in a lower profile kayak you could probably get away with a 5lb anchor but i've never seen them in mushroom
  18. x2. i was over my best friends house a few years back. his wife's friend stopped by. you could tell she had a major car accident/surgery from head to toe on her face. turns out her ex-husband had a beloved german shephard. he gave the dog pack preference to his wife. him, her and the dog were on the bed christmas morning. she was kissing the husband and as soon as she stopped the dog literally tried to rip her face off. he wouldn't let go and the husband had to get his gun and kill it. she had 60+ surgeries to reconstruct her face. pets should never be confused where they belong in the pack. they get confused, jealous, and territorial...especially strong dogs. its annoying when its a shih tzu but dangerous when a big dog

  20. can't remember who posted it but it went something like this: you wouldn't leave the house with one lure so don't leave with one retrieve. doesn't matter what lure you have tied on... experiment and try 5 different retrieves on the SAME cast. note which the bass hit on ie drag, rip, hop, sweep, dead stick, kill after a rip, two jerks and a pause, after you deflected off cover, waking on surface, burning in middle of water, burning subsurface etc. you can use the craziest retrieves with a senko alone. experiment and note what got you the success
  21. i only use straight braid if pitching into heavy cover or pads. yes fluror leading w/ everything else. there are some awesome past threads. type 'small ponds' and/or 'soft plastics' into the thread search bar
  22. i bought the 385ci DI in December for $258. all the steals happen in the winter/early spring. maybe buy $99 unit now and get a beauty then?
  23. http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/13845-guaranteed-to-catch-bass/ the first cast will generally get you the biggest fish in the area so i relocate often. no standing in the same place for an hour casting over the same water 100+ times/
  24. senko http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/13845-guaranteed-to-catch-bass/
  25. yup broke a rod trying to get a snag free and cut my finger on braid. its funny how many more trees you catch when bank fishing looks like u wear glasses from ur pix=good thing. i went to wearing sunglasses full time after a buddy "unsnagged" a crankbait sailing it 12" over my head.
