  1. yeah i just got one of them powells. If you can stand the pink and purple colors, the endurance rods are great
  2. MARTIAN CRAW!!! And that red chartreuse is georgeous
  3. or maybe try an epoxy jig paint with multiple coats, then a few clear coats???
  4. Braid, at least the power pro that i use, deffinantly floats. I know this as the floating line is key for shallow finesse and line watching, but thats another topic... Maybe you are reffering to spiderwire fluoro braid, which does sink... Anyways, i still think you guys are missing the point. A leader for braid on a topwater is not neccesarily about visibility or abrasion, Its the fact that because mono/copolymer is stiffer, it pushes the nose of the bait back, making it easier to walk the dog. As well, it reduces snagging the line with your front treble.
  5. Be patient and keep an eye on ***.com They always have rods that are $150+ on sale for $110 or less... Just picked up a $170 powell for like $110 and have gotten some other great deals.
  6. I also caught a piece from Denny and he essentially said that he sets the hook so many times in a tourney day that if you were watching him you would think he was crazy.
  7. Caught my PB in the tourney i won in NY, a 4.78 lb LM as a co-angler. So anyways, its probably 1 PM or so (2 hours left in the tourney) and i've got probably 14 lbs and whipping my boater. As you can imagine, this guy is not to happy with me... So we are running a stretch of docks and he noses up to this big ol' nice looking dock, puts down the power pole and looks back at me. He goes "alright, this is MY dock, don't cast on it". I'm doing alright so i think to myself is all good, he's had a long day, i'l just turn around and keep fishing the previous dock behind us. So anyways, im skippin lures into this dock, cast after cast and am getting nothing. Im trying to get my lure into a nice little spot, and i finally got it just right on maybe the 25th cast. Sure enough, the line twitches and i set the hook and this pig comes flying out of the dock and under the boat. My boater notices this, drops his rod, nets the fish and dumps it in the bottom of the boat, and proceeds to fish "his" dock without success. To make it even crazier, i look down at this bass and its completely blind in one eye My boater may have come in the top 3 for Angler of the Year, but i won on that day. The fish is the LM bass in my left hand (right side of the pic) in my avatar.
  8. Heres my Abu Garcia Revo Premier on my old Vendetta. Decent rod but now the premier is sitting on a pink and purple powell endurance where she belongs Also have some Curado 200E7 reels, ones on a shimano crucial flippin stick and the other on an allstar. My revo STX looks good on a lamiglas crankin stick as well.
  9. For walk-the-dog baits, a stiffer mono or co polymer leader is very important part of your setup. Not only does it foul the front hook less, but the mono will push back on the lure, forcing the head of the bait out further to the side making walking the dog much easier. To be honest, it really doesn't matter all that much as to how heavy your leader is, so long as your comfortable that you wont break it. I've used both 12 lb big game mono and 17 lb p-line co polymer with much success. Another quick tip is to then tie your leader to the bait with a loop knot, you will get more action out of it. You don't need a long leader, maybe 2 feet or less. I have it so the leader to mainline knot is just outside the tip guide on my rod while casting so i don't have to cast it through the guides.
  10. When the water is cooler, i like throwing a sweet beaver on the back of a jig. Subtle action is the key
  11. Thanks again guys
  12. I've always been one to flip a 3/8 or 1/2 oz jig in there, starting from the outside and working in. However, over the course of the day, you should be able to pattern a more exact location as to where the fish will be holding on a piece of cover. For instance, one day all the fish you catch could come from the heart of the cover, next to the biggest stump or thickest cover. On the contrary, they could be on the outside edge. The first few bushes or pieces of cover you fish, pick them apart thoroughly. If you happen to stick a fish, then pay attention to where the fish was located and try to pattern their location. On a certain day, the fish will mostly be on a certain part of the cover, not randomly dispersed throughout. Therefore, keep the pattern in your head and only fish that certain area and then move on to the next bush and repeat. This approach will make your run and gun approach even faster because you wont have to sit and pick apart every little part of the bush after you have a pattern going, but instead allow you to make one or two precise pitches into the most likely areas and then motor over to the next piece of cover.
  13. Thanks guys. KSRonH- the fisheries are still awsome. Fingerlakes are realy producing! Only sad part is the diminishing Smallmouth fishery on Lake Ontario, its been real rough these past few years. O well, i can always get my smallmouth fix at Oneida
  14. Thanks! Ive been lurking in the shadows for a few weeks but just never got around to making a profile. The info on here is awesome!
  15. Hey guys, Thought i'd give a quick introduction. My name is Jason and am from Rochester NY. At 17 years old, i fish tournaments with the Rochester Bassmasters and this year will be fishing the NYS Junior Bass Federations. I have one tournament win with the Bassmasters at Chautauqua Lake with a limit for 15.67 lbs and look to add more to my total. After fishing out of a little sit-in kayak for years, I've just purchased my first bass boat, a 1984 18' Correct Craft Nautique 1810 with a Mercury 150 Black Max on the back. I will be trying to fish as many tournaments as possible this summer in preparation for college fishing and beyond (considering the Univ of Florida, RIT, and Univ of Deleware). I look forward to adding to my knowledge of the sport i love, and am more than open to all help. Thanks in advance for any advice!! Jason Karol
