Does anybody have less hookups when they are just suspended ? Are the fish just resting or sleeping ? Very rarely do I get a active suspender.

Time of season has a big influence on how they attack. Mine are getting fat & not racing after anything in the open. Almost time to use 4# test Ande Mono And find some 4 # green braided line. My 50# braid is not allowing many hookups. They are doing a test of my lures. Run up to it and head butt it. No change ? They swim away.

When a school of bass arrive. They either key on 1 and only 1 thing. And only that 1 thing. Seen that 1 time as about 50 ? were nose into the bottom muck eating steadily. I tossed and BUMPED SOME with crank Rapalas. They payed no attention. I idled the boat over them in 6' of water. They payed no attention to anything except eating as fast as possible. Or they go looking for something to eat in a area. Anything tossed in will catch instantly.

I posted a sign on the bottom of the river. No fish have volunteered. ?

I ran a real life test on the effect barbs can have on a fish's jaw & skin or a human hand palm skin. Human skin of your palm is as tough as leather. If you have a BIG salt water lure with 4 trebles on it. & a Muskie whips those EXTRA STRONG trebles into your palm. I can tell you how almost impossible when alone. It is to RIP OUT each1" hook of 5 hooks. I had to use the pointy BARB as a knife to tear a series of slits from each hole. The shock of realizing that you are getting shaky& might not make it to the car 100' up a steep railroad embankment alone. The ER staff looked at my hand & face a couple of times as they removed my handkerchief. Said I was super lucky I did not sever any control nerves . What tools do we need with a 10 " lure on 1 rod ? None 1

The highest temperatures do not destroy all of the bass needs. Use barbless during the hot weather to reduce fatal infections from the barb holes. I still am not sure if a barbless hook penetrates faster & deeper on the light nippers. But My hook up rate is MUCH higher with the new Rapala lures & hooks. The fish are well fed and more carefull about a suck in and clamp down. All the fish are more cautious about a bite now.

Luck is more important than skill. Today !! ? Fantastic day finding where they were feeding................. I guessed right as each spot was left & they moved to the next spot. Most of the perch were PLUMP !! Catch & release with the new lures & crushed down barbs Note............Only 2 needed surgical forceps to unhook. All others were just barely lip hookups.

Bingo on the pro tournament right in the Clayton, N Y waters. Last week end. Oh well. The ramp is UPSTREM from my bay. Part of the Water flow is from the ramp bay to my bay. This web page is a big help to a old Virgin like me. Many thanks for solving the dead bass

About a week ago I saw a BIG small mouth floating on the surface. Not any bite marks. No gulls pecking out the eyes. Too big for birds to carry off. Yesterday ANOTHER big smallie with same appearance. Same area. This bay is1/4 mile away from a massive gobies area in 65' of water. First time in decades I have seen 2 big dead floating smallies ONLY. No other fish floating. This bay used to get ALL the treated sewage liquids from Clayton village. 2 years ago all untreated house sewage outside of the village was stopped. And connected to a major sewage plant miles away. There is no other industry for many miles. My best guess is gobies carrying Botulism toxins in the gobies. BUT Why not other fish that eat them ? 2 smallies out of thousands in this spot of the St Lawrence River system.

If you want to find out what has happened to GREAT FISHING spots ? Ask the scuba divers. What they tell you can destroy a lifetime of past / future fishing ways. I am not negative on fishing. Just finding out why some great places change permanently.

There are 2 basic types of fish types. Schooling and lone ambushers. once you decide on what type you are fishing for. It can become easier in massive lakes & rivers. There are plenty of odd balls during mating & spawning seasons. Fish & game departments have really screwed up big time on some stocking experiments gone very wrong. 40 ? years ago Penn stocked STERILE ? Tiger muskies into the Delaware River. Lots of small fish disappeared in a few years. I would find a pair going tru the active spawning motions in a very rocky point of shoal some years. The well oxygenated back wash & tall bushes was a perfect ambush place for sluggish fish to feed on weeds & bait.

I have learned that slightly RICH is the best sett ing while idling forward. I can hear the complete smooth firings. ? The speed is TOO SLOW. increased speed to be fast enoughso they commit from a reaction strike. Life is good. Trolled 2.5 hours perfect running and no hesitation whentime to speed up.

If a site / company of ANY STATED SIZE Can not Have returns. Has no shipping address or mailing address. Does not have pictures & specifications of each item. Anybody carry a kids rig ? or 2 some days for just casting exercise ? I do when I switch from Smallies & floaters tp Perch & floating 1.5" Rapalas with 4 # test cheap mono. Great for still conditions & weed clumps holding everything. Catch and release with crushed barbs & a landing net. August finds my fish much deeper most of the time. So I use the 4 # mono lines in the 2 rod holders. With 100' behind the boat I am getting loads of all sizes of everything on the lures. from 4" perch to a 36" pike. Problem WAS. They were swallowing the lures past the gills & into the throat tube. Even with crushed barbs. A TREBLE or 2 TREBLES in the throat is a long forcips surgery Job with putting the fish into the water for a minute several times to work all 6 hooks out. ...............SOO.......... I cut all 5 of the 6 hooks OFF completely and crushed the only barb down. I can now remove the lure in 5 to 10 seconds. I forgot to mention all the MONO 4 pound is replaced with 4..6.. or 10 # green BRAIDED lines. Result is at 100 feet of trolling line out. The stretch isis about 2 to 4"on a strike. The fish does not swim as fast as the boat & continur to swallow the lures deeper into the throat tube. He feels the lure & hook & is stuk by it on the first bite. I get lip & mouth hookup almost every time. ALL the fish types this year are ONLY nippin at the tail hook. RARE to get a gill or throat job. I have NEVER had so many fish NIPPING just that single tail hook. Even the pike are nipping untill they become lip hooked. I can not be sure of multiple nips not hooking by several fish attacking or only the same one nipping until hooked. For decades hook ups were Gill Or deeper.

Many thanks on the level check. I have seen the term INDEXING used in car tuning. Turning the ground electrode to a certain place in the cylinder. Where is my ground electrode TIP or thick base part to be pointing? I have 7 new plugs with plenty of gasket to probably get the index definitely much better. Than where it is right now with the crushed washer from cleaning the plugs so much. The mixture is touchy. + or- 1/8 from smoothest in gear position. I can put a black Magic Marker where the ground electrode is welded to the steel ring.

I have to rate the Sunfish group in a tiny creek, under a washed out root system, as the most intelligent fish. I am helping kids to start catch & release of them. BANG BANG caught & released 2 quickly. That was it until I changed to a different lure. BANG only 1. Changed to several different lures. NOTHING. Put a dug up worm on. ?

Missile goes out to minimum range & detonates. I felt the shockwave in the main battery director . The jet drone was 5 miles away. Best times of my life. ?

I view the putting food on the table a big thing. in Clayton N Y area a lot of live off the land people fish for money & food. Short summers & growing seasons. More people each year. I do not report them to any agency.

All the gamefish sizes burrow into the big enough weed clumps to wait out the sun and cormorants. The cormorants leave about 2 hours before sundown. Come back about 3 hours after sunrise.

Flats are great for bigger fish at different light levels. The smallest fish are dragging belly or swimming on their sides. Tossing BEHIND and into deeper water works well in that situation.

I will give you my results. A single Eagle Claw Snelled spinner about 3 feet above the weight. about 2 ' above the weight is a bait holding hook with a strip of fresh perch about 1" X 6" . If they are around ? Catch & release time.

Spinners are supremely effective alone. Add anything that has some body shape of a fish. All the better. Flash vibration shape. Bite time. Why do people eat Pizzas ? They LOOK GREAT !!

My 2 stroke 30 hp Evinrude loves the NGK 4322 hotter plugs. The carburetor idle mixture screw is air temperature sensitive. So I have fouled plugs sometimes. I carry spares cleaned up. I can clean the stumbling plugs if I run at about 80 % power for 4 to 5 minutes. The 1988 30hp 2 stroke is a fantastic reliable motor. What would help besides a drop down plate to increase drag as I raise the in gear idle speed.

In August I carry 2 rods. 1 is just to catch perch for bait alive. The other is 50# Stealth Braided. With a float 5' above the perch. I have seen the float dive over 5 times. Barbless hook & the red plastic hook releaser is a 5 second release of the bass.

Retraction of bad catching on lures. I changed the weight of the split shot . Heavier & retrieved faster from longer distances. Jumbo perch are barely nipping. Bought NEW Rapala lures. The SHARPER NEW hooks are catching many more nippers over the weeds. The dull hooks felt just like weed hits. Smallies & jperch. ALL the fish are being hooked just barely on the lips. Lighter drag & rod tip high up is bringing them to the boat. The weeds are requiring me to motor to them to prevent fish pulling off of the hooks.
