  1. As a old person retired for 20 years. Fishing the same 1/2 mile square bay all summer every year. Doing C & R. When I leave the dock every cormorant pops up & flies away. They know my motor sound could cause injury. Every other boat does not cause them to leave. I really believe that is why I do so much better fishing from the dock after sun down. Animals learn a certain sound means pain is to follow.
  2. He has been ordered to reduce the workforce under his control. It is the time of the year for layoffs & workforce reductions.
  3. Boat during daylight. Dock to feed the mosquitoes.
  4. MUST have.... 5 gallon pail & toilet paper. Rolled up FULL rain suit in sealed clear bag. a pair of the top of long cotton socks cut off......They prevent ankle & calf sunburns SPF 50....white gloves.... long white shirt.....long billhat with face side & neck flaps. Extra sunglasses polarized. 5 clear plastic bottles of water that stay in full sunlight to kill bacteria. filled 12 gallon and 6 gallon tanks. working VHF radio & old cell phone Plenty of Rapala 1.5" floaters and pack of BB split shot 2 complete rods.....4# pound and a 60 #. Lunch to eat.
  5. Not enough water every day allows all kinds of sediment to build up there. It varies with diet and the persons PH. They come in many colors. Mine was coal black with pointy spikes all over it. I crawled from car to house bed. Rescue squad hand carried me to stretcher then to the E R. I was hallucinating & dripping sweat............It is nothing compared to a woman in childbirth.
  6. Since I have fly fished for trout many decades. I am used to tapered leaders with 4 pound rated tips to the lure / bait. So I STILL will put on a 6' fly leader with a 4# tip in shallow clear springtime water. That does increase the number of hooked fish. Cold wet overcast just before or after lunch allows a quicker C & R time. Seaweeds & Plankton hazes ? No leader is needed on 60# braid anywhere. Clouded water.
  7. Weren't they brought in from Germany way back ?
  8. Just use a length of Floro that DOES NOT go into the top guide hole when you are ready to cast. Most of us have 6 1/2 to 7 1/2 foot rods. That length of Floro will relax the eyeballs of the fish enough.
  9. I only use 4# test Braided & Ande mono for general fishing in WEEDS. The thinner Braid WILL CUT my skin or most weeds easily. Excellent for bass & pike running straight to the weeds. I have used the braided to cut enough weeds and free up the larger fish.
  10. I & other people enjoy them cruising by for some snacks. They & catfish are the only pollution survivors. We are losing the entire food chain close to shore. " Should have been here 30 years ago !! "
  11. I fish pools from way up stream. About 100' of line out. Floating line & some braided backing. You will feel almost every take as the fish turns. No braid stretch & a small amount in the floating line. No barb. It penetrates faster & deeper. I use very heavy leaders of about 6'. Me & my Muddler Minnow doing C & R. If you do not hook up a lot ? Add a trailing hook to the tail.
  12. Business people control our lives. Sure glad I live now . And not in1905. Buy a small can of Jolly Green Giant Extra crispy corn. Slide kernels to cover ALL of metal hook . ! or 2 past the hook eye is best.. DO NOT leave rod out of your hands. If you do leave it ? BACK THE DRAG .....Completely to LOOSE. Then tighten drag adjustment before yanking to set the hook.
  13. All algorithms ARE KNOWN and accessible by the web crooks. Locks only keep out honest people. We carry our password books on trips. Couple of hundred for wife & me.
  14. When they are hungry & a group is looking ? Anything stopped or moving gets a bite. None stop C & R. Same in saltwater.
  15. A1986 Lowe 16' X 46" Aluminum V with Short shaft transom. 1986 Evinrude 9.9 with Electric start. And a 1999 Evinrude 30 hp 2 stroke . Only 2 parts replace on both. Still run it all summer I do not up scale my friends every few years. The boat is a treasure of trips. The 2002 Chaparral 186 SSI & 305 Chevy V 8. My old body was too unreliable to dock it. Start small. Never know when you are happy.
  16. I am amazed at how many fishing people need unlimited brand new fully optioned boats. To catch 1 fish at a time.
  17. Loops ? I only get them with tiny 1.5" long Rapala floaters in high wind and very used Braided 4# test casting into the wind. I was just too lazy & dumb to cast with high wind at my back. With big spinning reel. Mitchell 300 class. The floppy loops are not that bad. 30 seconds to clear out. I am too lazy to turn my back to the wind ?? I am so old that I did not know each type of fish would refuse to be caught on wrong type of rod / reel... I only catch the dumb ones.
  18. Buy a small can of Jolly Green Giant Extra crispy corn. Slide kernels to cover ALL of metal hook . 1 or 2 past the hook eye is best.. DO NOT leave rod out of your hands. If you do leave it ? BACK THE DRAG .....Completely to LOOSE. Then tighten drag adjustment before yanking to set the hook.
  19. I have caught SMB on pieces of CHICKEN NECKS. I wanted perch. C & R the SMB.
  20. I still cringe when I recall a freshwater father putting his thumb into a small salt water Bluefish mouth to remove the hook for his son. Terrible chopped up skin pieces hanging.
  21. Forget MOST bass stuff. You really need a light duty SALTWATER setup. Something to handle Blue fish with 80 to 120 pound Braided Line. Bigger catfish like Blues Have under ground holes to stay in during high water conditions......... Noodling or Hand Grabbing Cats are proof of tunnels. Their teeth are very raspy like sandpaper. I have used a FINE / smallest wire leader covered with PLASTIC. The leader then does not stop a quick pickup and swallow. I have a meat manager supply me with MEAT PARTS of all types. No charge. ALL are good to catch cats.. I use a large old Mitchell spinning for salt water with 60# test & wire. Maximum drag almost can stop some bigger cats from getting back to their dens. A freshwater Drum is also a possibility. Looks like a HUGE silvery carp with a real mouth. First run has dragged my 16 Lowe boat & 30 hp motor off. Around in river for awhile. Big cats LAST a long time. They head for anything to tangle up line& possibly cut thru none wire line. Big powerful reel & DRAG in it. Easy to loose a rod when 60 pounder takes off.
  22. I know when to switch from Rapalas to MEAT !! ? Protein ALWAYS produces.
  23. Bingo Tn. The St. Lawrence & Lake Ontario Are COVERED with them. Why we have MASSIVE SMB but few smaller ones. Problem is Botulism carried by some types of gobies. We get bird & fish kills sometimes. Bellies are full of gobies & other invasives. I have caught BIG gobies on the 1.5" Rapalas dragged on the bottom. Mouth hookups.
  24. In my bay the carp & bass maintain a so so level. Carp FORCE TEIR WAY INTO THE REEDS AND LAY EGGS. The bass simply wait for all the baby carp to come out of the weeds. YUM YUM I never fished or watched bass spawning. I have seen the GOBIES gobble up every egg in any type of fish nest if the guard is not RIGHT ON TOP OF THE NEST. You hook a nesting bass ? You destroyed ALL of the bass. Gobies love you very much. 3 to 5 seconds the nest is eaten completely. I rate the gobies to be just like waiting piranha. They form a safe distance circle around the nest. And wait.
