Let me add in my fish conditions I TROLL a lot Clear water. 80 to 150 ' of 6# braid laid out. I do not want ANY SOFTNESS / GIVE anywhere in the setup.The boats trolling speed is high. So most fish are partially hooked. I DO HOLD THE ROD. I just add a lot more hook dig in tension. I Reel them in while still trolling. Just like the big saltwater boats do.

I can only add this about my fresh caught & HEAD CHOPPED OFF while still on the hook& ust into the boat. I had a Ice Cube water water pail Cut the head off . Small amount of bleed out. Wrappd it in plastic wrap Into the ice water. 2nd perch kept alive on a stringer for 1.5 hours along side the boat when stopped. Carried alive to friend who put them into refrigerator still alive. He cleaned, Filleted, And battered them with no seasonings. Ate as soon as they cooled. No difference in taste. But we are 84 & 87. So taste could be not sensitive enough. Both fish DID have struggling times before killing them. Maybe perch are a very less gamey animal ? I do not know I do know when I have a GROUP of them they are very relaxed by the time I get them to the dock. And no struggling in the bag from dock to the refrigerator at the house. Note Fresh killed perch in the boat smell SWEET. Same sweetness when cut open & filleted at the house.

My 6 # braid had NO slip when new. A Trilene Knot was fine with snags or pulling pike out of heavy grass & weeds. But then I started loosing the lures to the fish faster. I did a magnifying look at the end of the braid. Surprise. ALL of the green color was scrubbed off. So I tied & pulled on the swivel eyes. It did NOT MOVE. When dry. I wetted the line & the knots kept sliding until the end came thru the knot & wire junction. Had a meeting with myself. We put a 1/2 hitch 1 " from the end of the line. Then I did the Trilene pulling when wet. It slide right up to the 1/2 hitch and stopped forever. So I went from a bunch of Rapala lures in a month to only excessive pulling causing a breakoff.

I use the small wood traps with 1/2" X 1/2" squares of bacon. I then wrap the bacon to the holder with about 7 wraps of thread so they have to pull a little. SNAP In a building I always use the wood traps HELD in place with wire & a screw eye to prevent drag aways under attic insulation.

Thanks Tn. I screwed up badly when I got my repaired car back. I cut the Coumadin cubes into 1/2" cubes & put them under the black plastic ground covers with bark nuggets on top of them. All were gone the next day. I never saw any pulling back of the covers. Thankfully it was cool enough for the snakes to be in their caves already. Edit I have already started making steel Chicken Wire sleeves for the mice to enter & eat . But will prevent pets from eating the Coumadin.

Or crush / explode the heart or brain of a animal being killed. I never have gamey wild animals. I am too brutal to let them suffer and run off to die. Not to be found. A head shot at 50' to 150' in the center of the head causes the animal to STOP INSTANTLY. No tracking & losing the blood trail. Causing the gamiest tasting meat possible. I am surprised by how many people cast a Bait Caster reel TOO HARD. DO not have a GOOD FREE RUNNING level winder reel. There is no way a person should NOT be able to cast WITH THE WIND . Just PLAN YOUR casting stops to have the wind at your back. If I figured those out 72 years ago by myself. Why are we still having the same problems today ? Still having B C reel problems ? Change to a spinning reel. Stop frustrating yourself. We are not all created equally. I still do not cast a SPINNING REEL into the wind with lighter lures.
