Live baitfish. Your best lure for catching fish that have been caught & released at leased 1 time already. A 1 to 2 " diameter float ball with a hook that is 2' below the hook IS A EXCELLENT way to catch fish on dead or chewed on baitfish. Hook thru the lips and forehead. The baitfish then has EXTREME SMELL and crippled action. If you do not get serious float pull unders ? There are NO NO fish attacking there ? Move immediately to another / different place. Enjoy catching fish. 👍

i have some harmless ...no hooks... lures. The fish will repeatedly attack it. Always woth a chuckle.

I find SMB are really a moving school of similar sized fish. With the following few exception's. A few fish will take up residence in a dense weed bed. Why ? Maybe they can not keep up with the schools of moving bass. Age disease size.....Lazy ? I have caught the same several bass in the same 100' area. With lots of food for them in the area. I use a special rod line & lure with no hook on it. A attack & grab counts as a caught. 🙂

Getting ancient is more difficult. Reduced circle of friends. Failing mind sections. Stage 4 diseases. Oh well. 👍

All of us veterns of fishing alone and getting ... BARBED HOOKS.. buried in our hands ? CRUSH down all barbs. It is really that simple. I can still see the look in the eyes of the E R staff as I described how I ripped 5 barbed holes in the right palm. They all agreed I could have severed nerves and lost control of fingers. No one taught me about the dangers of barbs.

I am fearful of any strange / different motor for that very reason. Bless electric starters

The small 16 aluminum Lowe open fish boat with the 1986 30 hp 2 cycle Everrude is perfect. I had it set up by my mechanic to have slightly slow timing . Like me. That does 1 very important thing to the engine. Removes ALL ALL chance of a dangerous backfiring of the engine. Prevents a true pull hand cranking yank that WILL WILL ...RIP... the rubber handle out of your strongest grip. Thought I broke several finger joints when the small 4 stroke, hand start, lawn motor yanked the handle out of my hand. It was a HARMLESS ??? larger weedwhacker. The slow timing is very slight. I could hand crank that 30 forever. But it fires up with only 1 or 2 feet of the pull cord pulled out of the engine. Sparkplugs are always very clean. Even after hours of trolling at idle speed.

How do the " Match the Hatch " guys explain that ?

Where I fish we had a ...ONLY largemouth Bass STOCKED... reservoir. Odd because they also stocked baitfish for food. The L M B quickly started forming large schools to catch food. Just like S M B do. The L M Bass & bait schools were gigantic. Limits on each trip did not reduce the amount of bass or baitfish. Back then fish finders were rare on the 10 hp water. With wardens all over.

Use 2 DIFFERENT fuel tanks on your boat. ONLY refill 1 at a time. Bad load of fuel ? Only the 1 tank will not start the engine. Switch to the other tank to get back. Yes You do have to realize the engine ran great for a couple of minutes before stopping. For no real reason. 2 separate tanks !!

Some people fish alone in desolate rivers at times. I have been almost hit by a almost fully submerged 300 to 500 gallon steel tank on the Delaware River. Fishing buddy screamed loud enough to alert me to the danger coming. Another time I slipped off of a long Red Shale ridge across the river. Luck saved me from going over the dam. The Delaware River around my area looks very harmless. Got a foot wedged under a rock in a very narrow small creek. 20' across and 3' deep with some current. Pushed me backwards with my foot stuck on the bottom and my knees bent downstream. I can see the sky thru the water holding me underwater. Panic Then I could not get free or get my mouth up to get a breath of air. I jammed my fly rod into the bottom hard enough to get a breath of air. I would never have been found. I now carry a Ski Pole looped onto my wrist when wading. Luck always beats skill.

I use chest waders and a comfortable full sized vest. When fishing ABOVE the dam in spring high water ? I use a 100' line between me & a shore tree. Been there and slipped on a slippery flat rock section.

Almost forgot another fast hook duller. Using lures with trebles on lures, that are used to bump bottom. Really bad on rocky bottoms & boulders. I no longer fish the bottom with lures. I do not do Room Service.
