  1. Last late summer I was getting more hits but fewer instant solid hook ups. Maybe 2 or 3 out of 10 hits were solid hit with rod tip dip but no further repeat hits by the same ?? fish. I was using my small floaters at trolling high speeds. I wanted to have the SMB COMMITT completely to the bite. Not a head butting then a instant bite in the mouth. I tried different trolling patterns straight circle figure 8 pumping to rapidly change depth. Each of those helped somewhat to more hits. A couple of odd head hookups. Including a left eyeball and head on 1 fish. I changed to a single tail hook and had more inside the mouth hook ups. Still not a ton of inside the mouth commits. Can I & others have generically changed the fish over 30 years ? To not do the old old attack with the mouth fully open. Always resulting in tail hook deep into the throat ?

  2. I first crush down the barbs. Then grind off the distorted barb portion. That makes pretty good fast in.....Fast out hook point. Like it both ways. The puncture wound is much smaller. Usually no tearing open of the jaw flesh. Should reduce infection & death of C & R in peak heat periods.
  3. I can remember my first date & first bass . Date was fantastic. Bass was ok.
  4. I go into the heavy stuff for the fish or snag. Saves line knots breaking apart. Fish dying down there .
  5. Tn and me check our hooks every 25 years. We give the fish a chance.
  6. I like GetFish rod sensitivity rating. With shot dragging bottom and twitching the tip a noticeable amount. My rods are all the same TIP twitching sensitivity for any fish I am after. I cast & troll for bass & perch at the same time. 2 rods & lures both active at same time. Need stiff ones to set instantly while watching other rod tip. Keeps the time moving faster.
  7. Docks are always good . STRUCTURE Problem is when a big pike takes up permanent housekeeping. On any other fish trying to enter under the dock. " Dinner has arrived. "
  8. The Victory was really for St, Croix. ? Companies are really hurting on sales & profit. The rich always can afford higher prices.
  9. As the rods get longer. So does the price.
  10. I am making 50' casts in the reeds. My usual Rapala floater. I am doing my 2nd run when I see a pike to my left keeping same speed & course. Back to watching my lure. I see a small fish come out of a weed clump. I detect a movement to my left. It is the pike coming back to me with the fish in his mouth. Oh well. Continue on my patrol call up another fish. The pike is GONE. Now I see him coming back with another 1 of mine. AS I idle away I see him keeping the same course & speed. I leave that area. Next day I catch him on the 60# rig and tow him to a different bay. Odd. When I released him he just held position for a few seconds then did a slow circle & went down.
  11. Some people collect dolls or Hot Wheel Cars. Fishing rods are a highly competitive marketing business. The more to pick from ? The more I want.
  12. Big insects are always good.
  13. We do not have enough pythons being tossed into the road sides each year ? If you sterilized them fine.
  14. I only would go canoeing 3 people I could trust. Me myself & I. All for 1. 1 for all. I canoed in a river where the deepest place was 4' deep. Houses on both banks.
  15. It has been a industry standard the any / ALL ratings WILL BREAK at about 2 X the test rating. Do you really cast a lure + 200' ? Have you measured it on a field ? I am happy at120 to 150 with bigger lures
  16. Surprised that they were local people caught like that in a canoe. Canoes are designed to roll a lot. If they tried or wind got them sideways ? My little 16' Aluminum V hull is very sensitive to the wind. I just do not go out. Docking is unreal in wind with almost empty fuel tanks. I just have beached it. If I get caught in a sudden squall.
  17. Air &12 inches down. Yes 3' or deeper is kept much warmer by earths 50 to 55 F dirt temperature. 3" to 4 in deep shore line on sunny days in a row do bring in baitfish & bigger fish. It is a hit & miss condition to guess at.
  18. I am taking the 84th age amendment I am too old to remember the brand.
  19. I always FULLY back off the tension to zero even for a few days. It allows any PLASTIC TYPE of discs to ALMOST go back to original shape. Some makes use only 3 fingered pressure discs. They can cause those steady high / low drag feels when pulled by hand. So I always back all reel drags to 0 drag.
  20. Reminds me of my summer snakes. That act like pirates in a boarding party. Some DEFINATELY want to climb up the O B engine & into the boat. Might smell a scrap of perch. I use the larger net to gently push them back into the water. They are super skinny for a couple of months. I think they use fish as a major part of their diet. We do not have many small rodents or ground birds for them to eat in N Y.
  21. There are very few true companies making the multi stranded Braided lines world wide. They even have Coded Names for each type. So I simply go for the low priced brand names now. I really need my money more than overpriced retailers. I do know how to check plastic lines for U V damage if the spool is sitting on a store shelf for years. Those football sized BULK rolls I avoid at all costs.. U V damage risk is too great for me. Plus the squeeze pressure is / can be super high on all the line farther into the roll. I will die before I use up my small spool of 4# test clear Ande Monofilament. It is still in perfect condition after 20 ?? years in my under ware drawer. Companies do make excellent plastic lines. If we do our part to protecting it from U V rays.
  22. Water & snakes go together all the summertime. Dark nights are Lantern nights to see them. They do smell out of water fish. The fish slime on your hands & clothing attracts them to you. Been there.
  23. If water comes out between the surfaces of 2 castings? Bolts are loose or hitting something in the water.
