  1. Some Exciting developments. BassCat has Quest sanctioned this event. This could mean up to $1000 additional to the winners if in a BassCat boat and part of the Quest program. Additionally, we have received some really great prizes to give away. 2 stroke oil, rods and reels (Okuma, Falcon, Diawa), gift certificates, and just more really great things. If you have any questions about this please don't hesitate to reach out to me.
  2. Everyone please take a look at the fishing tournament being put on by the Harrison Board of Realtors at Moonshine Beach on Table Rock Lake - September 21, 2013. This is a benifit tournament for the Special Olympics, and is also in memory of my Grandfather Charles "Chicken" Hodge. We have been working on getting some great prizes lined up, Free Lunch, drawings, T-shirts, and much more. The tournament is 50% payback with 1 place being paid for every 10 entires. All proceeds going to the Special Olympics. The tournament portion of the event is from 7AM till noon. There will be a gathering for the weigh-in and lunch at Moonshine Beach. Then at 1:30 all able bodies willing to help are going to help a special olympian do some fishing. We are working with an area agency on setting this portion up. Some Olympians will be able to participate from boats while others will be on the bank, so any help from any angle is appreciated. Also, If you would like to be a sponsor there are endless opportunties. Please feel free to contact me or the Harrison Board of realtors for any questions. Registration and sponsorship form can be found on the right side of the page below. http://harrisonbor.com/ The flyer was to large to attach, but if you need me to send you a copy by email contact me by PM or phone. Thanks, Aaron Hodge 870-704-9288
  3. It is a little known fact that it actually isn't refferring to either. In actuality a guy at zoom was a big fan of Smashing Pumpkins. The color is designed after the scheme of their 3rd studio albumn. The guy really like watermellon seed fish doctor worms the best and on one batch of them he screwed up the color combinations and ended up with what looked like a brown turd i.e. turd worm. He didn't think that would sell, I mean it was the 80's, so he had to go with something more kosher. The Pumpkins had just released their 3rd albumn "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness" On the cover it has a lady sitting in a star and you'll notice that star is very close to the color refferred to as pumpkin seed. Years later I talked to him (Jimmy Zoom III) and he told me he used to like the pumpkin seed lizard, but recently he said he couldn't seem to catch them on it anymore, but he was taking this guy fishing and he was just killing him out of the back of the boat using a freaking watermellon seed fish doctor worm. He was extremely hesitant to switch over, but once he did he was catching fish like a pro.
  4. I think it is epic. I can sit and watch someone that can really knows what they are doing for a really long time. Last nights episode the big ones were turned on before the Hurricane. Hackney hooking a gator was awesome. I like watching Tak and Ish fish, Biffle is fun, Ehler is great. For TV you can't get any better than the way this sets up. It is super back and forth with everyfish counting and limiting the lakes into zones is a pretty good idea, leading to more drama over spots. For TV fishing I think casual fans are going to really like it if they give it a shot.
  5. No doubt there are exagerations, but you have to ask yourself, how many shows would there be unless they felt around a little for a few extra "river monsters". In a lot of the situations I am sure the local legand of a river monster is completely believed by the locals. Heck Jeremy went to Lake of the Ozarks to catch the man eating catfish that live there. The story was the fish where man eaters down toward the dam. Funny thing is I've heard the exact same story on Bull Shoals Lake just 100 miles to the South of LOZ. I do enjoy watching the show a lot though.
  6. I live in the area and fish the water regularly. This decision was completely weak. Guys I am telling you the storms lasted for a grand total of about 20 minutes. Whats next, canceling tomorrow due to tough post frontal conditions. I am really shocked by this decision and yes we are getting soft as a whole. I don't want someone to get hurt or die doing this, but let em fish for 2 hours, they take cover for 30 minutes tops, and finish out the day, and get a little wet in the process. I've fished extremely small tournaments in conditions worse than this and when we get back to the weigh-in we mention the storm and then go on about our business. Charging the mound is in no way related to this story and I am not sure why it was brought up. Look at Nascar driving to fast or making a little contact = bad, the NFL hitting players will get you a penalty(and that is not limited to cheap shots, the list goes on and on. Other than the 30 minutes that it stormed today there was no reason a 12 year old girl couldn't be on the lake in a canoe. I am not a promoter of dangerous behavior to look tough, but a grown man in a boat with just a little knowledge or common sense would not have any weather related problems on Bull Shoals Lake.
  7. In my experience pouring my own plastics is where I feel like I have been better off in increasing my catches. Jigs are jigs. You can buy skirts and make a jig any color you want. The most important part of a jig is the hook in my opinion and I have found that there are a couple of jigs on the market with hooks that I cannot find that are better than anything I can buy. Pouring soft plastics is limitless. Your imagination is the only limit. I am making a little swimbait right now that is a copy of an old bait made in the 60's, super simple designe that really seems to be outfishing the ones I can buy. It is a lot of fun. For me making jigs got really boring really fast. If you buy remelt plastic, a used microwave, and use a pyrex cup, use pop to make your molds you can get into a little cheaper than some of the other guys have posted, but you will end up spending money on other things that you haven't thought of. Respirator, clamps, building a work bench, salt, little tools, a butane burner, and mold box material are some things that never crossed my mind before I got started I concour on the time issue too. I find myself wanting to sneak out to the garage more often than my wife approves of, and it is a little obsesive, and I have only been playing with this a little over a month. Sure is a lot of fun for me.
  8. Agree with everyone else. Plaster, bait of choice, and some plastic baits to remelt. One difference of opinion I have is that you should glue the creature bait down on a flat surface, build your mold box, and pour the plaster on top of the bait instead of pushing into the plaster, works better for me anyways. Just so you know you are going to end up spending more money than you plan, I know I have.
