  • About Me
Fishing style is junk to pattern. Probably somewhere in between Hence why I usually have 7-9 rods on deck most trips. Fishing is one of my favorite things to do in my spare time. I believe it always will be.

  1. These may or may not be mainstream to some people but the few colors that work for me that aren’t mentioned overly explicitly in forums all the time are: smoke dark cin dark pumpkin Sometimes less is more. Flake or color otherwise. But at the same time sometimes branching out and trying “off-the-wall” colors that could still pass as “natural” type colors to some degree is a good bet to show them something different as well.
  2. Late to this post but whoever is telling you the 853C doesn’t work for 1/2oz jigs must be fishing regular style jigs. The 853C works phenomenally with 1/2oz TRUE finesse style jigs and hula grubs. My favorite rod for that and anything lighter as far as bottom contact goes.
  3. Some decent info there thanks. Do you have any experience with any of the other rods by chance?
  4. Those of you with extensive Dobyns and Powell Rods experience please feel free to chime in. Thinking of going a different direction than the Dobyns KD744 I have. Snice I already have a DX744 I was thinking of selling the KD744 (or gifting it to my little brother) And going with a DC763C. Aside from the 2” extra and some more sensitivity, what would I gain going with a DC763C? Just feel like I don’t need two 4 power rods in the same length and would rather get something with a little more flex down the blank than the KD744. For what it’s worth I have a DC764C, and a Powell Endurance 765 Utility. I like the actions/tapers and powers to those both. Was also wondering how the DC763C is in action and power compared to the Powell 764C and 765C Endurance if anyone has experience with those. What’s lame is I think I used to own a DC763C and a Powell Endurance 764C at some point in time but wanted to go a little shorter rods at the time so I sold them. Go figure that now I’m getting back into a little longer rods these days…oh the cons of being a tackle-snob sometimes lmao?
  5. I know this is an old topic. But with that said I figured I’d chime in since I’ve used and own[ed] at least two of the rod brands mentioned. Price point to value I have to say that Powell brings an absolute bang-for-your-buck rod to the table at their price points for their different series of rods. There is no comparison (in my opinion) from a Dobyns Fury to a Powell Endurance (I’ve owned both). The Endurance blows it out of the water. Granted they are different in value price points but even then the Inferno beats the Fury as well. I do like Dobyns but have really come to enjoy all the Powells I own and I just picked up another Powell on the online Christmas sale at the most popular online tackle retailer lol. Hopefully the 765 MMH Fast action Endurance I just ordered will be exactly what I’m looking for.
  6. I didn’t mean it in the sense of do-it-all but in the sense of heavier duty or bigger type bait do it all. Obviously won’t be throwing a shaky head or drop shot or ned rig or anything like that on it. And obviously won’t be throwing 8-10” hudds or deps 250s on it either. But just about everything in the middle of that, aside from a couple other baits, I believe it will be good for. But was hoping someone who has the exact model would chime in at some point lol. No offense though.
  7. Yeah I’m hoping the 765 will be a jack of all trades type of rod. I have a feeling it will be. I don’t need it to do anything spectacularly. Just most things listed above pretty decently. I definitely figured the 775 would be a broomstick type rod but I fish mid-gauge jigs at best so I didn’t need a broomstick anyway because I would bend the hooks out. I fish clear Spotted Bass reservoirs mainly so I need something to be versatile enough to throw a few different things well
  8. Just ordered an Endurance 765 MMH Fast Casting on TW for the Christmas sale. Will this be a good multipurpose rod for shmedium glides, 3/4-1oz football jigs/swingheads, A-Rigs and smallish Swimbaits? Is the tip fast and sensitive enough for a jig or bottom contact presentation in deep water? Any reviews would be cool. I love the Powells I have. Just wondering how everyone who has this rod likes it.
  9. Sorry didn't mean to post that twice haha my mistake ^
  10. I'm a little late to this spinning rod opinion party haha. But I love my Powell Endurance Series spinning rod. 7'3", ML pwr, X-fast action, 1/8th-1/2oz lure rating, 6-12lb test line rating. Awesome for almost any spinning rod application really. Has a lot of reserve power despite the ML pwr rating. I've used it for tubes on tube jigs. Weighted and non-weighted wacky rigged senkos, and dropshot. It could be used for a few more techniques than just those though. Just overall a very crisp feeling rod and it's served me well. And it's definitely within that price range mentioned. My most sensitive spinning rod I own (so far anyway haha). Need to get used to doing more true finesse-style fishing with dart head worms and dropshot as well. Especially for my home lakes.

  12. I was looking at those on TW also. The price is nice for sure. I have an Okuma Guide Select MH Swimbait rod for 1/2-5oz but I'm wanting another swimbait rod to throw bottom hook swimbaits on and punkers, wakebaits and glidebait capability as well. But yeah let me know how you like that rod
  13. Yeah I can and do. Most my rods are right in the 7' range. I just find rods closer to 8' are way too bulky and awkward for me haha
  14. Does anyone have any thoughts or opinions about the Carrot Stix Wild Black 7' XH rod? Been looking to get another small to mid-size swimbait-capable rod for cheap and since I'm a shorter guy (5'7") I hate throwing rods longer than 7'6" because it's just awkward. A shorter rod would also be easier to store and carry as well for me. Just wondering if anyone likes or uses this rod for swimbaits and heavy-line applications. This rod is on clearance on TW I believe for like $88. I just don't want to spend a ton of money on a rod right now because I'm tight on funds and want a rod that can still do a few different techniques decently. Thanks in advance!
  15. I know this is a post a couple years old but a couple wks ago out of 4 guys we caught 14 spotted bass in our local Shasta Lake, most around 2 lbs or so. Fished for around 7 hours but the bite was good. Obviously the fish were deep, about 20'-30' of water, and bait presentation had to be pretty slow for the most part. But answering your question, yes, fishing can be productive in December at shasta lake. We used 1/4 oz and 3/8 oz football head jig hooks (i think 4/0 size) with yamamoto twin tailed skirted hula grubs. Hope that helps haha
