  1. I keep a pair of cutting pliers with me at all time when fishing due to hooking the gut or gills. Its a small price to buy a decent pair to help save a fishes life. I feel its a civic duty if I want to keep fishing.
  2. No I dont own a NEW boat, but my wife bought me my own bass boat for a wedding present. Its gonna need a little work, but the foundation is solid. Its. 16.5 foot older model, and its got some wood accents (which to me is cool). A horrible fiberglass patch job just under the front lip, like someone hit something. I will be using this thread now to help me along the way, and will be enjoying it every bit of the way. Its going to be like when I built my 88 5.0 Mustang in High School. I sure know how to pick'em!
  3. Both are good. Suffix is made by Rapala, Power Pro by Shimano.
  4. Thats funny, Im going to Dinsey World this weekend for my honeymoon. I wish I could fish there I dont really have any advice for you, just saw the post and thought to myself, IF ONLY. Then I would be deballed.
  5. Good to hear. I too am in Paramedics and yes it does help to enjoy fishing while going over things that I need to know in my head. For some reason it always helps me to relax my mind and soak up life.
  6. I do a lot of bank.fishing. and usually try to fish different canals every time I go out. I basically start in a spot and fish the whole 180 of where im standing. Then move down past where I cast and repeat. Cover as much water as possible.
  7. A Bass Pro Pro Qualifier and a Berkley Lightning Shock rod will be a great combo. Together about $150.
  8. Oh boy, this is where it all starts. I give it a year and the bug is gonna hit you. Its a great starter, but you soon see the obsession kick in. Its like a bag of chips, I bet you cant fish just one.
  9. The lower the gear ratio, the better ita gonna be for you cranking in that tank of rig. Ideal is a 5 something, but since you have those 2, go with the 6.
  10. I fish alot, and only change my line when its low, or maybe once a year.
  11. The answer is easy, 50E. Its a must have reel, I know.
  12. They are tasty. I tried a piece, but the water is too dirty down here.
  13. Yeah, its been good to me. Never broke off, or lost a fish because of it. Most on here are Power Pro advocates, but I always have used Spiderwire for my braid, and its done me good. The price is right too.
  14. Its been a long year and a half, but everytime I go out to my canal, I see very few left. About this time last year you couldnt walk 10 feet down my canal and see one of these hanging out by the edge. Since I started hunting these crazy creatures, they seemed to get very aware of my intentions. Now it becomes a battle of hide and seek with them. Yesterday while fishing with my wifes grandfather, I spotted this one hanging out by a channel pipe. At first the way it was sitting in the water it looked like a bedding bass, but then I noticed the big round side fins, and it was ON! I was fishing a Zoom lizard, so I chucked it out and reeled it in across the top of the water. As it got closer to its head, I was praying that this thing would bite and not run. As her grandfater and I waited in anticipation, it engulfed the lizard. I set the hook, as to cross the fishes eyes, and the fight was on. Since switching to 20lb YoZuri Hybrid line on my regularly used canal fishing reel, I was curious to see how it was gonna hold up, since this was a pretty decent sized fish. The fight lasted about 3 minutes, all the while he took me into rocks, lilly pads, and branches that were under water. At one point the fish charged the shore soo hard, I thought it was gonna jump out of the water and onto the bank. After getting him out of the water, and giving him a little head pounding, it weighed in at 6 lbs. The fight was good, the line held up very well, and it seems that the bass are making a comeback in my canal since we caught 6 while there. I am going to hunt down the female another day (she was swimming frantically around while I was fighting her mate). I refuse to let them over take my canal. I was here first!
  15. $50, of my own $, the rest was points and gift cards, so maybe $150?
  16. The thicker the line, the easier it is to manage. I use 65# braid due to its 12# diameter. It also helps to keep the line from digging into itself on the spool with hooksets.
  17. Great for jigs.
  18. Well as far as religion, when I say "Im going to Church on Sunday morning", it means Im going fishing. Lets just be glad that they are here for us to enjoy.
  19. just bookmark the website, thats what I did, but I have an EVO.
  20. Got a charter for my bachelor party for tomorrow, hope the fishings good.
