  1. I use braided line on all my rigs, 65# Spiderwire. Some say 65 is way over doing it, but for the castability and control, I think it handles better since its a 12# diameter. Take a black Sharpie marker and color the line before the bait, I like to use the length of my rod for a guide of how much line to color, 6 1/2 feet. If you use a quality reel, you wont have to worry too much about backlashes. Knot strength is unreal, polamer knots are what I use, and never had a problem. If a bait gets stuck in a tree, or lillypads, just point the rod straight to it, hold the spool and pull. Either the branch or pad is coming with it, or the hook is gonna straighten, either way Im getting my lure back (unless its a worm hook, then Ill just let it go). Only downfall is when you do a good hookset, you get a bit of set memory in the spool, but it comes out on the next cast.
  2. 65# Spiderwire all the way, down here I take a black sharpie marker and color the line about 6 ft before the lure.
  3. Buzz them along the edges, every 10 feet stop and let it drop a second, then buzz it again. For soft plastic frogs only
  4. Mine broke after 2 uses. I just use my faithful Bass Pro dial scale. Never fails.
  5. Red Devil Spoon?
  6. I still love using the Chug Bug every once-in-a-while. I know they still make them, but I remember when they first came out. I caught soo many fish with those early in the morning back then.
  7. Everyone talking about mono leader due to hooks getting caught up in the braided line, I never have that problem.
  8. The best color for down here in S FLA is watermelonseed colors, junebug. The 16 I caught were all on a watermelon seed.
  9. My setup is a 6'6 MH Berkley Lightning Shock rod, BPS Pro Qualifier 6.4:1, 65# Spiderwire, Zara One knock Spook-clear
  10. Yeah, there 4.19 a pack here in FL. Thats pretty expensive for us too. I try to make them last as long as I can.
  11. Watermelon Seed, Watermelon Red, Pumkin Red, June Bug-Lizards/Plastics. Shad-Cranks. Chartruse and Green-Spinnerbaits. Watermelon and Blue-Jigs. Clear/White-Spooks. Green and Yellow-Kermy Frogs.
  12. Caught 16 bass yesterday morning in about 45 minutes in a little canal on them. Holy crap that is the most ive ever caught in such a short period of time.
  13. Heres my artillery, we go all year long in S Fla. Abu Garcia Cardinal-10lb Flourocarbon-armed in the trunk of my car for random stops. 14. SPIDERWIRE STEALTH 65#.
  15. Welcome to the world of Baitcasters. Quality is going to be your best friend. The Pro Qualifier is going to be the best bang for the buck. As for the Shimano, you cant get better than that company. In my opinion, Shimano is like gold to a fisherman. Stay out of Walmart, your gonna hate life if you waste your money on that junk.
  16. Ive noticed that the new Shimano Curado and Citica dont have the normal gold colored line guides. I know that most rods that are made to handle braided line have AluminumOxide coated guides, is this what they are now doing to the reel line guides? I want to buy a Citica, but will it handle the superline?
  17. Ive had no luck with 30#, for some reason it seems to break on less than 30# of force, and its new line. I gave up and went big, but besides strength, it casts better for me since I use baitcasters. 30# works better for my spinners.
  18. Down here in the Glades they do us no good except Chain Pickerel eat at them. Its mostly lizards, paddle tails, and jigs. But I can kill'em for a buck, haha.
  19. You obviously are a rec. bass fisher. I fish to live and live to fish. Also do tournaments. I agree they are a good rod, but not for the avid angler. Flip anf cast a crappy rod and reel 500 times in 1 days tourney and try and tell me there is no difference. Also, if you go to Bass Pro, you can get a great rod and reel combo for under $100. I wait for sales for good buys. Most of my rods are Berkley Lightning Shock for my 65# Spiderwire, $50, only about $20 more than an Ugly, way less than $100 compeditors, superior to most. Im with you on the fact that $100 is rediculous, but trust me when I say there is a difference.
  20. Polomar all day long
  21. Use 65 lb Spiderwire. If your gonna do it, go big or go home. Usually the 30# is 6# dia so its too thin, and breaks easily. 65# is 12# dia. You wont have any problems.
  22. Ugly sticks are just that, Bass fishing aint pretty with them. Durable as hell, but no sensation. For $20 more you can get waaaaaay better. Expect at least $60 for a great all around rod. P.S. stay out of Walmart
  23. The best spinner baits to buy? Go to Walmart, and they have a rack of them usually at the bottem where the other spinners are. They come from Costa Rico, and are all different colors and blades. The best part? They cost $1, and if you loose it, or the hook dulls, who cares! I have 2 of every color/blade setup, no problems. Why pay $7 each for something that is very seasonal?
