  1. I don't fish topwater for musky very often. I remember catching a nice 4lb lm on a super top raider (9 inches). 80lb braid, 8'6" rod and a 400 calcutta te has a way of taking the fun out of bass fishing. Still, any boated fish is better than nothing.
  2. A walk the dog type lure can be fun. Rapala makes them topwater or subsurface. I use 9" 3.5 oz gliders when I muskie fish and actually catch bass. I'm sure a scaled down bass size would work.
  3. Had a few "upper end" quantums. Never again. I haven't used a smoke so take it for what it's worth. Nothing. I won't be testing quantum reels anytime soon
  4. I don't fish a wacky senko often at all. I don't know why but I just don't. I t rig them though. I also don't buy lures with an anglers name plastered on them. Maybe I'm missing out, I know a lot on this site favor a certain square bill crank but I just can't bring myself to buy one.
  5. summer nights and a jitterbug tied on. Lots of fun, lots of misses as well, one of my favorite techniques.
  6. Thats how you do it. Congrats on getting a core. It just hasnt happened for me yet.
  7. In that price range, carbonlite.
  8. Another vote for carbon lite. You are getting a great value imo. Incredibly sensitive.
  9. Hmm... I watch and talk to people fishing around the waters I fish. I'd be dumb not to pick their brains. I buy lures to match what I'm trying to do. I buy crankbaits in certain colors that dive to certain depths to cover areas I think fish may be. I try new stuff from time to time, I pay ZERO attention to what any pro is doing or using. I'm not saying that is right or wrong, I just don't care what someone is doing in a place that is nowhere near me. The reason why I like to bass fish is because there are so many different techniques that are effective. Lures don't make fisherman better, ability to find feeding bass makes fisherman better.
  10. Great great reel. I got one last year, Had a blast with it, I'm getting it tuned up as we speak. I bought the revo premier and a PQ. I wanted to get a 100 mgfv core and my crappy bps had none, nor did they have the regular 100, nor did they have a 50 other than the display model which they weren't willing to discount at all. I hate bps.If I didn't have a ton of gift cards from birthdays and christmas, I wouldn't shop there at all. It's hard to say no to a new premier and pq for $200. Btw my mgx (when it gets back) sits on a 6'8" mf xtreme. Ridiculous setup. Congrats on your purchase you wont be dissapointed
  11. Something like that.
  12. I use 12 lb cx which is apparently getting hard to find around these parts. I like it.
  13. I use it or pb blaster to keep my fishing tools from sticking (pliers).
  14. Thank you for the kind words, he is really built well, we are careful with his diet and he has taken a very nice form. He is now 1 year and 2 months old. The last picture was taken on december 7th so he wasn't quite a year old yet. He is a big dog, but his temperment and attitude towards other people and animals has been incredible. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't apprehensive about getting one of these dogs, their reputation may not be the best in certain crowds. He's been nothing but a blast. I love coming home from work and having him greet me. I really can't say enough good things about him.
  15. Around last valentine's day, the wife and I decided to purchase a 7 week old rottweiler pup. He here is as we pulled up to the house... He isn't much of a good first mate or fishing buddy (he sleeps on the job a lot) Luckily for all of us, I got a bigger boat What a great friend he has turned into. He is a 120 Lb ball of laughs. Sure he has some puppy moments but so far, so good.
  16. I mean really at some point in the near future, you will get $70 for a battery, if not and you feel guilty about the reel, sell it or trade it for a battery. jus sayin
  17. I keep your cell phone network up and running
  18. Abu garcia premier imho
  19. Toss up between abu and shimano. I voted shimano as abu wasnt there yet
  20. I use 80 lb pp on my four musky combos. Great stuff. If you end up not using it, let me know, ill take it off of your hands.
  21. I had it on a now deceased 7ft mhf carbonlite. It basically handled my texas rigged 7 inch power worms and baby brush hawgs (using a 2 ot hook and a 3/16 sinker) not exactly finesse. I'm guessing the total weight would be close to 1/2 oz. After I broke the carbonlite, I moved the mgx over to a mf rod. I've thrown 1/8 oz jigs with grubs. So maybe a 1/4 oz. I've also tossed some 1/4 oz jitterbugs with it without trouble. I don't think the mh rod would have loaded very well with the lighter stuff.
  22. i have an mgx. It is great. I wouldnt pay retail for it (auction site has them significantly cheaper). I will probably buy the mgxtreme when it comes out. 4.9 ounces. Thats crazy light. I've beaten the crap out of the mgx and it has stood up so far. Currently I have it out getting serviced, tuned, and some bearings. The gen 3 premier brings a lot to the table as well at only 5.8 oz. I havent used a core, so I cant make a comparison.
  23. I honestly can't answer the question. I started off with a spinning setup and now I avoid it like the plague. I don't throw small stuff often, I primarily throw a t rig, cranks, topwater and spinnerbaits. I don't see a advantage going to spinning gear for that. I did come close to buying a stradic ci4.
  24. I disagree (respectfully) with rock chalk. The revo s isn't even close to the lightest reel in it's price range (carbonlite is 5.9 vs revo 7.6). It doesn't have mag breaks which could be a very big deal. The pq is tried and true and giving you more at about 2/3 the price. It would appear an easy decision if functionality and value outweigh the "gotta have it factor".
