  1. Haha, I read the thread wrong, for some reason reason I thought the op was asking about a crankbait rod. I would not buy a premier for general purpose rod. My B.
  2. I don't like the omens personally. If I had to buy any rod at the $100 level, I'm buying a carbonlite, for cranks, I'll take a premier.
  3. St croix premier @ the $100 level
  4. I got a chronarch ci4 on the trade (gift card and no curado I). My wife threw some skitter raps into the cart and I bought a couple pairs of fishing gloves.
  5. I don't care for the harrisburg pa store much. I get gift cards and have to go. I haven't encountered any time share people but the help is not great. I went in with my gift card and a reel trade in. I ask about the new curado, they don't have them and don't know when they will get them. I then ask about a core. "we never carried cores". That was just a blatant lie I had one in my hands at their sale the year before. I was then lectured by the shimano rep about how the ci4 is made from the same materials that would be used if mankind had to build a tunnel into space to transport fuel. I was getting a chronarch no matter what but this guy almost made me put the reel down. I spent my gift cards, hopefully I don't get anymore.
  6. Tubes. I'm going to add a little blade above the tube to my line this year to see how well it works. If I were a betting man I'd say that I will try it for maybe three tubes until it becomes a pita when I start to run into snags and don't feel like putting another blade inline when I have to tie a new tube on. I figure a little flash wont hurt.
  7. Nice haul. Way to take advantage.
  8. I have a carbonlite with the regular guides, I have since replaced it with much much more expensive rods but I still find myself fishing with the carbonlite from time to time. I use it for bottom contact mostly
  9. Casting reel- bps pq Casting rod- bps carbonlite Honorable mention- fenwick silver hawk If there is something you are really looking for specific, wait and keep searching. I have never paid retail for any of my rods/reels and I have at least 4 combos that retail over $700
  10. The biggest worm I throw is a 7 inch power worn with a 3/16 weight. I use a mh for this, your setup seems like it would be considerably heavier than mine. Maybe a heavy rod would be better for it.
  11. I use mainly shimano for my heavy musky rods and mgx's and premiers for my bass stuff. I even have a revo toro on one of my musky rods. That being said I really like the shimanos, a lot. The curado 300 ej on my jerk bait rod might be one of the best casting reels I have ever used. Love it. I don't think bass stuff (at least where I am) requires "workhorse" type reels. I pounded the crap out of my mgx last year with no issues other than occasional lazy thumb bar return. The premier has no notches on it's belt yet. I like the revo line, I like the specs and options but I still question the durability until I have some more logged time. My shimanos all get beat, hard. Casting baits normally 3-16oz. They all show no signs of slowing down. From my perspective it's easy to fall in love with the revo line especially if you shop around, I think that has a lot to do with people leaning towards abu. I think my premier came over lubed, I'm going to tear it down and re lube. It feels a little "thick" when I crank.
  12. At the $220-$240 the mgx goes for on ebay, it's worth every penny.
  13. I don't throw an a rig, like ever. They couple times I have, I have used my stroix lt lipstick (musky) rod. 80lb braid plus any musky rod is probably overkill
  14. He's definitely hitting the free spool. No way that happens on two different reels to the same person by accident.
  15. I got one last year for $50. Awesome rod for the money. Just feels great
