I started fishing wacky this year and the great thing about it is when you do hook a fish, its usually a decent sized one, and you can catch fish in the middle of the day when the fish are lazy and not biting anything else. I use the jackall weedless wacky jig head due to the amount of snags where I fish.
I went from a 1\2 oz chatterbait to a weightless flick shake on the all around setting. Not sure what the mag dial was on but I did turn it up a few clicks because of the change in weight and adjusted the spool tension and it gave me the worst blow up of the day. Had to give the mag dial a few more clicks. Stopped the blow ups but the distance was cut dramatically.
Took the T3B out today and gave the Curado and Metanium a rest. Some observations, magnetic is far more sensitive to wind changes and lure changes. Got a few blow ups and they were the kind that took at least 2-3 minutes to fix. As with anything you just need time with the system to develop your skills with it.
The thumbars have a nice solid feel with a positive click, more real estate as well. They are placed a tad higher so that your thumb is in a better position on the spool IMO. This is another area where I think the Curado is better than the Tatula. My Tat R thumbar got a little mushy after about a week.
Well you can do what I did and literally checked every online vendor and any sporting goods store within 150 miles until I found one. This was back when they first came out back in February. Luckily I was looking for a 5:5 ratio which apparently is the least desirable. If you can find one just cancel the TW order.
I think alot of current baitcasters that are not designed for finesse can throw light baits better than people think. I was fishing my Curado I today and just to see what would happen, I put on the 1/8 oz Z man mini chatterbait no trailer on a rod rated down to only 1/4 oz and I was shocked it threw it so well.. and on 10lb mono.
The USDM pixy added clicker to either the dragstar or cast control knob. Not knocking the Pixy but there are several other BFS options that perform at the least just as good or better than the pixy.
I don't think the gar were there to eat, maybe to spawn? The big female I saw had males literally attached to her sides wriggling around. But I guess their presence was enough to spook the bass.
I went to a favorite spot where I regularly catch bass, its a marina with a small cove. Ive been there the past 2 days and caught bass up to 1.5 lbs. Today nothing.. not even a nibble. I work my way around the cove and I see there are pretty big gar there and it looks like they are spawning(2 males following a big female around). I see a few more gar. Is the presence of the gar making the bass move out to different areas? Just for fun I poked the big female gar with my rod and it didn't even flinch.. its scales were like metal! lol.
