  1. I use a 7' medium Quantum Energy with a moderate action, it casts a mile and it has just the right amount of give to it.
  2. Didn't mean any disrespect, I was just kinda surprised cause around here we kill em on spinnerbaits. Sorry to hear you guys don't have any luck with them where you're from, it's such a great bait for covering water quickly and in a variety of cover.
  3. Someday it will be mine... Oh yes, it will be mine! Haha I wish I could lay down 3 bills for that beauty. When they say they're ten years ahead of the competition they're right. Just look at that grip section! What's up with that? No way I would have ever thought of that.
  4. I hope that smiley face means you were kidding.
  5. I use a palomar for braid and obviously when I'm tying a drop shot. For everything else I use an improved clinch but after watching that video of the reverse clinch I may start tying that. I read somewhere that if you put your line through the eye twice it'll strengthen your knot. Anybody know if that's true? Does it hurt at all? I've been doing it for a while and have never had a problem but I haven't had any monsters on either.
  6. I have an accurist with the flippin switch but I don't use it much. I'm thinkin about givin it another shot next season though
  7. Thanks guys I really think I'm gonna go with the Dobyns. I've heard nothing but good things and it'd be nice to support the sponsor. I picked up a quantum tour edition reel on sale at cabelas so I'll probably put that on it or my switch my accurist over and put the tour edtion on my cranking rod. I like the 7.0:1 ratio for flippin though.
  8. Anybody wanna help me out? Please? lol
  9. Probably the biggest bass I ever caught was on a 9" Yum Dinger which they only make in a fork tail now. I rig the 7's the same way though and almost fish it like a punching bait except you have to look for more sparse lilly pads. I t rig it with a 1/8 bullet weight on a 5/0 hook. Toss that sucker into a bunch of lilly pads let it sit on the bottom and slowly drag it out giving a tiny hop every once in a while just to get their attention. When I was in Canada a couple years ago we went through 4 bags of 9" dingers in one day rigged that way! We couldn't keep em off those baby's. When we ran out we were tryin to "catch" the worms off the bottom cause the bass didn't want anything else, at least not the way they liked the dingers!
  10. I'm at school without a vehicle or a boat so I can only go out when others who do have cars want to go, which sadly isn't very often.
  11. I don't mind people talkin because they always look stupid whenever their day at the bottom comes. Do you ever notice when KVD misses a cut? No, because he never brags or gloats, that's why it seems like he does well in every tournament he enters. I tend to keep my mouth shut just because I become really focused and don't like to acknowledge my competition let alone talk to them. When I fish with my brother though it's the opposite. We always let each other hear it and everything's a competition. More than a few times we've almost knocked each other overboard, especially when I cast in on a fish he just missed and pull it out before he can even reel in his slack. He really hates that.
  12. Winter lasts a long time when you have a beauty like that ready to go. I've got cabin fever bad already, I've resorted to smelling my soft plastics to get that fishing high! lol
  13. I fished my first tournament this fall and I plan on fishing as many as possible next season. There's nothing like it, I didn't think fishing could be any more fun but when there's money on the line it makes it so much more exciting. It's tough cause I don't have my own boat but I'm hoping to fish some BFL's as a co angler.
  14. I can't stand CX, I bought about 4 spools cause it was on sale and hate it. If you want a good hybrid line go with Yo-Zuri Hybrid, I use it for my crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and jigs and it works wonderfully. It has way less memory than the p line and I think it's tougher too. I used strictly mono until last year and I didn't want to go straight to fluoro so I tried the hybrid but next season I'm switching out all my line for pure fluro except for my top water rig and braid for punching.
  15. haha Thanks that is the exact set up I plan on using, I bought some havoc pit boss's too because they were on sale and I thought I'd give em a try, we'll see which one performs better. I decided I'm definitely going tungsten because of size.
  16. Just saw a video on youtube for the walking worm and was wondering if anybody had used it and if it really works that well.
  17. for texas rigging curly tail worms and creatures I only use lead bullets sinkers from 1/8 to 1/4 oz I'm just trying to figure out what kind of weight to use for punchin through mats.
  18. I never take any of my plastics out of the original bag and during the winter I put them all in cardboard boxes just so it's all organized. I like to reorganize my tackle box and worm bags in the spring so that way everythings cleared out and I can put it in its own place.
  19. I'm not really worried about the sensitivity, but I think I'll buy a couple tungsten weights and some lead and if the size makes that much of a difference I'll just start buying tungsten exclusively.
  20. I'm going to really start punching mats this spring and I am looking to stock up on gear. I know what baits, skirts, and hooks I'm going to use but I'm not sure about the weights. I want to use 3/4 or 1 oz but the tungsten are so expensive 2 are $6.50 and if I use lead they're 10 for $2.50. Is there a difference? would you recommend using one over another? If there is an advantage to tungsten then I don't care about the price but if there isn't then I don't want to go and spend 5 or 6 times as much.

  22. Not weird at all. I think that all the time. I keep telling myself to buy left handed baitcasters but the right hended ones are always on sale. I don't mind it except for flipping and pitching. I read something that said righties use spinning reels with the handle on the left because you usually work the lure alot with spinning tackle and most anglers like to work the rod with their strong hand.

  24. I'd say go with a cabelas rod. I have three, a 7' XMLti, a 6'6" Prodigy and a fish eagle 2. They are all really good rods and a great value. I've found that with cabelas your definitely going to get more bang for your buck and they'll take anything back so if you don't like it or it snaps you can just get replace it with something else. The XMLti is their top of the line rod and it's normally $200 but has been on sale for $119 forever. It performs just as well as the big name rods like abu, st. croix, etc. at the same price point. the prodigy is really good too I use that for my finesse applications, and the fish eagle I use for small cranks and jigs. The only problem with it is the handle is a little short for my liking, but that's personal preference. I just joined The college fishing circuit for Penn State this year and fished the Big Ten classic for my first tournament. It completely changed my life, all I want to do is fish competitively now. I spend all my money on gear and spend all my time reading articles and watching fishing videos. Your son will love it. I'd never been on a real bass boat before and whenever we threw the pedal down at blast off it was just that a "BLAST OFF." going 70 mph I thought my face was going to peel off but it was the most exhilarating feeling, And hooking up with a fish in a tournament is like getting into a ten pounder every time. My heart started beating out of my chest even if it was a dink.
  25. That sounds like a pretty good plan to me. I'm just a college kid who still lacks the money, and wisdom to look at things from a veterans perspective (haha). I hope you have luck "introducing" those old lures to the bass, they worked well in the past for a reason so I'd imagine they're still going to catch fish for you. The image of your kids selling off your treasured lures at some garage sale gets my stomach all knotted up when I picture it. I can imagine I'd be rollin over in my grave if some day my kids sold all my gear that I loved for a quarter a piece.
