  1. I'm going down to fish a tournament on Kerr Lake, NC this weekend and I've never been there before. From reports and just figuring the season the fish should be settling into their summer pattern. I was planning on staying in the Nutbush creek area and other arms on the south end of the lake. Going to throw topwater in the morning and then probably crankbaits, jigs, and big worms til I figure out what's working. Any advice, or thoughts on my strategy? I appreciate any help you can give,
  2. I started fishing a new creek last year and kill em everytime I go, both largemouth and smallmouth. All of the fish are really fat and healthy but there are very few over 13" and none over 16". I'm a little confused because I would think that if there is enough forage to sustain the population, which there obviously is since the fish are so chunky, they would continue to grow in length also. If anyone could give me some insight into this problem I'd really appreciate it. Some factors to consider... I live in Pennsylvania and the average depth in the creek is probably less than 2' but there are plenty of holes over 3' or 4' deep where we catch most of the fish. Also there are a ton of huge carp in the creek so I'd assume it should have the ability to hold larger bass.
  3. I fish heavy really thick nasty weeds with my flukes and never get any weeds on them or miss fish unless I see them hit it and set the hook before I feel the take. I use a 3/0 or 4/0 gamakatsu ewg depending on how fast I want it to sink, I think it actually makes a difference, even if it's just in my head. The way to do it is make sure the head completely covers your knot, then texas rig ti and lay the hook point on the body of the fluke. Pinch the body where the hook exits and pull the front half away from the point then poke the point barely under the surface and let go. This keeps the point hooked really shallow but it goes into the bait enough that it won't pull out on weeds. All my strikes come when I rip it out of the weeds and pause it for a second, they absolutely crush it no short strikes.
  4. yeah like i said i only used mono cause that was my only other option, won't even waste my time in the future.
  5. I was fishing around noon this morning from shore on a small local lake and only caught a couple small ones on a fluke when I decided to throw a frog on the mats that are just off the bank. I forgot my line snips at home and couldn't cut through the braid on my frog rod to get the bait I had tied on off and the frog on so I decided I'd just put it on my mh set up with 12# mono... BAD IDEA!!! I threw about 15 casts when I finally got a bite about 30 yards away. I let the fish take it reeled in the slack and set the hook as hard as I could. My line broke about ten feet out and I was stuck fishless, frogless, and embarassed. Any ideas why my line broke so close to me? I guessed maybe a kink from a back lash or something. Anyway, I'll never make the mistake of using sub par tackle to fish a frog again.
  6. I personally have never used one for bass, but I have a teammate who does really well with them.
  7. Can anyone tell me where I can find 9" yum dingers? not the forktail version but the plain senko style. I know they stopped making them and I've looked everywhere including ebay but can't find them. A few years ago I couldn't keep the bass off that bait but I only bought a few bags and when I went back they were all gone. Please help me I'll even buy them off you guys if you have any.
  8. Took my new Abu garcia Veritas out yesterday for the first time. it's a 6'9" MH. I was a little nervous because I had read some bad reviews about the tips snapping on small fish but after using this rod I have no worries! I was able to cast weightless flukes and heavier lures with absolutely no issues and amazing accuracy even with the light lures. I caught a 4 pounder and the rod responded really well. Also caught a 3 pounder that instantly swam into the thickest weeds possible and I was able to haul him out with ease, and didn't feel scared that the rod was going to snap or anything. Also very sensitive, I was bringing a fluke through really thick grass and the bass were just inhaling it and sitting there but I had no trouble feeling when a fish hit compared to getting hung up in the grass. With my old rod which was a cheapo I missed alot of fish because I wouldn't be able to tell if it was a fish or not. These rods are great, I'm definitely buying more when I get the cash!
  9. What's your favorite bait for bed/sight fishing? Yesterday I was over a pretty nice female and she actually took my fluke(search bait) but got off first, then after trying other things I tied on a havoc crawfatty with a 1/4 oz weight and pitched it right in front of her and shook it for a couple seconds until she bit. Ended up being a 4 pounder which is good for the little reservoir I fish. biggest fish I've personally seen out of there
  10. I was watching two bedding fish today in about a foot of water and the female stayed put either right on the bed or just off it and the male stayed locked to the bed only leaving to chase some bluegill away. I fished for the female for an hour and a half and she wouldn't take anything I threw, jigs, lizards, weighted fluke, senko, nothin.
  11. I lost a brand new spinnerbait the other day when my line broke way up the line during a backlash. I tied a crank bait on and was dredging bottom with it and on the first cast I hooked a line. When I pulled in all the line my brand new spinnerbait was on the other end!!! The fishing gods were definitely smiling upon me that day!
  12. I've been trying to find lake maps on the internet but I can't find any good topo maps. Where do you guys get yours? Anywhere online you can get a decent one for free?
  13. I was just wondering why there are only a couple sites I can find them on and why YUM hasn't come out and made a public announcement yet.
  14. Both Cabelas and Dicks sporting goods are selling new YUM products, the Mightee Craw, YUMphibian, craw chunk and lil Suzee. I also saw an article announcing the introduction of the YUMphibian on FLW's website but can't find anything else on yums websites or anywhere else on the internet. Does anyone know anything about these new products? The Mightee Craw is just a variation on the Mighty Bug, the Yumphibian is a brushhog type bait, and the lil suzee is a swimbait like the skinny dipper.
  15. Quantum! I'd even take the accurist, I have one and I love it. it throws everything from weightless plastics to heavy spinnerbaits really well and I use the flippin switch all the time. It's really nice with a right handed reel to be able to engage the reel as soon as the bait hits the water.
  16. went out to the local golf course pond yesterday and the TE shined again! I can't get over how accurately and how far I can cast light baits with this reel! I was fishing weightless flukes and had no problem putting it right where it needed to be and when they bit the reel performed great, no big ones so still can't comment on the drag but reeled smooth the whole time.
  17. I'm really looking forward to using these rods, I ordered a couple off of *** for $55 each. My bass club is sponsored by tw so we get pretty good deals. If they're good enough for Ike they'e good enough for me!
  18. I've noticed a lot of people on here either don't like Quantum reels or just prefer another brand, from what I see mostly shimano. If you don't like Quantum I'd like to know why, I've just always wondered because I personally love quantum reels. All the reels I own are quantum except for one and I've never had a problem. I fished a buddy's curado once and I didn't think it felt, cast, or handled any better than my energy. Even my Accurist isn't far behind the curado, at least in smoothness and casting distance. Once again I'm not bashing anyone's opinions I was just wondering why some people don't like their stuff.
  19. I know I'm not anywhere near you geographically but I fish a pond just like that and I do well on weightless zoom trick worms, and a white spinner bait is never a bad choice.
  20. No way! if someone's too cheap to buy quality equipment that's their problem. Obviously you're going to be a nice guy and let him borrow your stuff since he's family but that doesn't mean you can't be a little annoyed by it! I get a little upset when I go on trips with my dad because if the lake has walleye in it we aren't allowed to target bass until we've all caught a limit of walleye. Don't get me wrong I love eating walleye, but trolling over the same spot over and over again makes for a long day.
  21. Gotta go with the yammi, color 200 clear with bronze flake is the way to go. It's worth the money!
  22. I was actually one of those people who got in line at 4 am specifically to buy the tour edition on black friday. I wish I would have bought more of them, I saw guys just putting their arms out and sweeping 7 or 8 of them into their basket!
  23. I agree they could make the format a little better, and of course people who don't fish aren't going to tune in but if they happen to see the classic and half the crowd looks bored then they're definitely not going to think " Hey that sport must be awesome!"
  24. That was awesome when he got three hits within 6 feet of water? Wonder if any of them were the same fish?
