  2. If you don't help a friend/ brother who is down you can't call yourself friend/brother. I have no hesitation in sharing info and like to believe that my brother and friends would not let me suffer if they could do anything to help me. Although we don't fish for serious money I have been involved in National Trials ( fishing to make the South African team) for many years and have both rendered and received assistance on too many occasions to list here.
  3. No one mentioned the Yamamoto stretch 40. This lure on a light mojo or splitshit rig must be the worst kept secret in my area. Because of the cost I only take them out when I realy need to catch 1 but they always produce. Number 1 in my "panic box" I carry them in watermelon/red, green pumkin and black.
  4. I love the Shimano 50's. I have a Core, 3 curados and a Chronarch E. I find them much more comfortable to fish than my old Curado D series and am slowly changing over as money comes available. I use either braid or light flourocarbon up to 12 lb and have never found line capacity to be a drawback.
  5. I have the same mold and am going to make some earthworms now to use on a shakeyhead tomorrow. Thanks for the inspiration.
  6. For eating I manage a physiotherapy practice. For fishing money I make and sell various lures as well as custom catfish calling rods. I also do hail damage assessment for a crop insurer during the season. Main thing is I can work my own schedule to make time for the important stuff like watching my sons play sports and fishing. Before this I spent 18 years as a correctional services officer.
  7. I'm rooting for my African neighbor Gerry Jooste but I doubt that he has ever been this cold in his life. For sure it never snows in Zimbabwe.
  8. I have not bought a lure in 7 days 23 hours and 32 seconds but who is counting in any case.
  9. The best way to slow down is to cast a huge overwind with a weightless worm. Seems about half the time there is a bass on by the time I'm sorted. Sometimes they will even try to steal the rod while I'm still trying to untangle the line.
  10. Was out fished recently by my partner using an original floating Rapala. I'm busy putting new split rings and hooks on mine.
  11. I use my own handmade plastics and can customize colors, softness and sink rate to my preference. I use a custom salted buzz frog that will outcast anything available commercially and if it tears after 3/4 bass so what? I can re melt the leftovers and catch more. I'm not interested in selling as mass produced lures are much cheaper and I would hate being beaten in a tournament by my own creations.
  12. My wife twice. Think its fun unhooking a turtle or bird? Try a red head
  13. I can think of Alabama, Carolina and Texas rigs along with Mojo, splitshot, dropshot and weightless rigs. There is also the Ned rig and Jika rig. I'm not sure if using a Florida screw in sinker is called a Florida rig. There must more I can't remember or never heard of. The scary thing as that they all catch bass.
  14. I agree with Raul that matching the hatch is way over rated. Where I live bass are an alien species and there are no bluegill or shad or even craws. Yet all these lure produce as good as lure colored or shaped to represent various tilapia and barbus species or crabs. However I have seen size matter a lot and actually just had a weekend where bass would crush a Norman DBN and ignore a DLN in the same color. (Red ear which also don't occur here). I also have had the reverse occur where I was catching on larger lure and had the smaller ones ignored. The bait monkey would love you to have both sizes in various colors anyway with a dedicated rod, reel and line for each size.
  15. That is a seriously goodlooking piece of equipment. Now to get a new PB on it....
  16. Stick a Zoom dead ringer in the back to make a killer creature bait. I haven't seen those in a while but used to love them.
  17. I have my Ci4 on my dropshot (daiwa cielo) rod and it balances perfectly. No complaints about performance either.
  18. I have never heard about anyone complaining about using a too large net. For me the only limitation on size is what will fit into the hatch on my boat. I prefer using the rubber netting especially when fishing crankbaits.
  19. I have a couple of Quantum baitcasters that are terrific paperweights.
  20. I would order dome of the lures I only read about like LC pointers, roboworms and a couple of swimbaits. Most likely I would by more plastic and or jig molds. I love catching fish on lures I made myself.
  21. Thanks for the replies. That paper towel trick on the video is awesome. Thanks again
  22. Thanks. I am trying to figure out my tackle for the weekend and trying to decide on taking or leaving the big stick.
  23. Thanks for the replies. I am guessing that in shallow water, less than a foot I would nEed as light a weight as I can punch through instead of an ounce or more?
  24. First fly caught fish was a sharp tooth catfish while going after smallies in a local stream. The rod was a 9 foot 9 weight red Daiwa fiberglass noodle that used to do duty as bobber rod fitted with a Mitchell 301 coffee grinder reel and used for panfishing before I (full of book knowledge about the noble art of the fly) rescued it and gave it dignified exit chasing bass, yellow fish and tigers. It was so slow on the back cast I could have smoke and a sip of a cold beverage before splashing down "the mother of all s casts" the rod was sadly lost to angling posterity and fame by not being tied down on deck when hitting a wake board boat wake running a bit late for weigh in.
  25. Most of my waters are coming out of a dry spell and most thick cover is rather shallow. What is the minimum depth required for punching and is it worthwhile targeting flotsam mats in less than three feet of water? I'm getting some on frog but want to target the less aggressive ones as well.
