  1. I'm waiting for the Sebile D&S crankbait and the VMC spinshot hooks to hot local shelves.
  2. I use Spro and Snag proof frogs. I think rod and line has more influence on hooh set than type of frog.
  3. You can add salt to store bought plastics in the bag. This prevent them from sticking together and may add a bit of salty taste for a short while. The only way to add salt is to pour your own lures. Salt is added to the plastic before pouring.
  4. I would love a Nile perch. It looks and act like a bass but goes over a 100 pounds.
  5. Buzz frog/toad or popping frog.
  6. I feel that if you know using a trailer hook might land you a percentage of bass that would have been "short strikers" and you don't use it, is silly. When I get a bass on the trailer hook I try to work out why. I start to change retrieve, color, blades and size till I get solid takers.
  7. My tournament usually run from 6-4. I try to do my "social" fishing at the same times as it is no ise to me figuring out after dark patterns. Some of my waters are shared with hippos. This means that only a fool will run a boat in the dark. More life are lost to hippo a year than all of the Big 5 combined.
  8. Yes, it becomes thick and clear and them thins out again. You should be able to pour a thin consistent stream of plastic. I try to pour at +/- 340F. Some molds I can do cooler and some requires hotter plastic but 340 is a good starting point. Be careful of over heating as well. I wasted lots of plastic starting out by scorching the stuff. Good luck.
  9. I use a single screwlock hook. I have some doubles but find them difficult to rig straight.
  10. An infrared thermometer made a big difference in my pouring consistency. It sounds as if your plastic was too cold on both pours. Good luck for the next attempt.
  11. Great job. That Neon barrage is super cool.
  12. A quick fix is to use a small cable tie to lock the skirt in place.
  13. Congratulations Jeff.
  14. I prefer the Owner screwlock/ swimbait hooks in 4/0 or 5/0. I pour my own buzzfrogs and have a great hook up ratio on these hooks.
  15. Great post. Thanks for taking the time to type this up. I love frog fishing so much that my current flipping/ pitching bait is the Rojas fighting frog. Now I just need a frog colored spinnerbait and I'm set.
  16. I twitch frogs on the mats and walk them in open water next to or between mats. For heavy mats I wrap lead wire around the hook shank and stuff in a couple of rattles as well. I feel that a heavier frog makes more of a disturbance on the mat and gets more blow ups.
  17. I also like the Spro frogs. The other brands are not readily available locally so my experience if them are limited. The Spro popping frog has it own dedicated rod and it always on deck except in mid winter.
  18. Anything around 5 pounds is a photo opportunity on my boat.
  19. I make any excuse to fish a frog. Hollow body or toad style doesn't matter. I get goosebumps just thinking about the extreme violence of a decent bass exploding on a frog. If I could afford to I would travel the world fishing frog the whole year.
  20. My boat is called the "Rainmaker" a shiny finish on a reel would not be a problem for me.
  21. I carry between 12-20 in the boat. Hopefully I will have only 3-6 on deck. I can cut down to 4-5 if fishing as a non boater.
  22. I feel I need to give a friendly warning! If you start this hobby you won't be able to stop and the amount of molds and colors and glitters will just keep growing and growing and you will lie awake at night working out formulas for lures. You have been warned!
  23. I have been a Shimano fan for 30 years and has been disappointed everytime I tried a different brand. I admit that the other reels have not been top of the range and that the high end reels from other manufacturers may be great reels but I will stick to what I know in the future.
  24. My boat trailer don't fit in the garage so the boat is under a carport and I have garage for workshop and storage. I have space for pouring soft plastics, making jigs and spinners as well as fly tying bench. For storage I have the kitchen cupboards that was ripped out when my wife got her new kitchen. Like Long Mike has said I'm afraid to take pictures because it looks like a train wreck inside.
  25. The perch Rapala shadrap 5 has earned a honouable name under artificial lure anglers in South Africa. It is called the "springbokkie" (springbuck) after our national rugby team. In a country where rugby is almost a religion that is high praise indeed. Like the rugby team the Rapala also wears a green and gold jersey.
