  1. 1. A new wife that likes to fish ( kidding) 2. Tons of new tackles and mostly LC lures 3. BPS bionic casting rod 4. Shimano Chronarch ci4 5. Fishing waist pack when I bank fish for trout and other species
  2. Both are very high gear ratio and it shouldn’t matter much for flipping. I prefer a 6:4:1 ratio if you plan to use SwimJigs or even SpinnerBaits. I found burning swimjigs are less effective than fishing them through pads or wood cover. Therefore, high gear ratio is not necessary for me. You can definitely use a high gear ratio, but slow down your retrieve (I intend to crank pretty fast).
  3. For me, I don’t see any performance issue with 1 piece versus 2 piece rods. But, I had some two piece rods that cracked near the socket where two pieces join together so I stopped buying them. It is more of a reliability issue for me, and I do not recommend keep your rod in your car (you can google some reading materials during your free time).
  4. wow. My local walmart never marks down fishing stuff...
  5. i think you can buy it online, cant ya? unless it is door buster deal?
  6. Overall quality, performance, maintenance, break system. is it made in US?
  7. I use different size braided line with mono backing for all my setups. Personally, I think Braided line cast better than mono. To overcome the issue that Braided line floats which might impact the depth of some lures. I will upsize the hooks from 4 to 2, and I haven’t experience any changes in the action of the lure. Secondly, Braided line will last me years which mono I would need to re-spool at least twice a year. That's something you might want to consider as well.
  8. Cabela's posted their blackfriday ads and Quantum EXO PT casting reel will be on sale. Anyone used this reel before? what do you guys think of it? Never own a quantum reel before, but I am a bit interested since it will be mark down for 150 bucks.
  9. Yo-Yoing is quiet easy. Make a long cast and turn your reel handle few times (5-6 times), then pause for 2-3 seconds. Just repeat it again and again...
  10. Have you looked into fishpond vest? Since you will be fishing from shore, and you might not want to carry a large backpack with you. No need to bring everything with you when you bank fish. Personally, I think a good fishing vest will do the trick. But of course, if you really wanted a backpack then go with TWS's angler backpack.
  11. One of my cousins visited me from Canada and he never fish in his entire life. Out of nowhere, he wants to go fishing with me during his five days business trips. I bought him a two piece spinning rod along with a reel, and my hope is that he will take the fishing rod back to Canada. It will be a bit difficult if your brother-in-law wants to keep a one piece rod and he is flying back to Costa Rica. Basspro sells a nice travel set that you might want to consider and he can use your lures & terminal tackles. He can decide what lures he likes and doesn’t like, then can start hanging out with the bait monkey.
  12. He got a website? haha
  13. Pond fishing could be really fun or devastating. There is a local pond I fish at when I can only go out for 1-2 hours, and someday I can pull out 10-15 bass within an hour or I get no bite at all. I have found down size your lure really helps, and I am talking about using inline spinners or 3 inch grubs. Fish relatively shallow and don’t stay on the edge of the bank, You might spook the fish if you are too close to the water, I am at least 2-3 feet back when I am casting. Ninety percent of the time, I just bring a pack of plastics and few hooks. No need to bring the entire artisanal when you are fishing a pond. At least for me, reaction bites doesn’t work so well for me in a pond.
  14. It is not late fall yet in Maryland. Historically, burning a lipless crankbait or swim jig along the warmer part of the lake will produce for me in the morning. Temperature and weather become critical for me to decide when to fish and where to fish. If we got a cold front for the past few days, then I will probably search deep using a C Rig. If the temperature is consistent then I can catch them pretty close to the shore. Also, pitching a enko under the docks was pretty effective for me last year during Nov. in the middle of the day.
  15. I have caught multispecies (Bass, trout, crappie, bluegill, catfish) using small Crank Baits that’s designed for crappies. Another bait you can look into will be rooster tail and fish it on a ultra-light rod is extremely fun.
  16. Nice catch. Crappie and walleye are so tasty.
  17. Finesse fishing is not about location. It is about downsizing your lures and fish it slow. For instance, drop shot is my favorite finesse technique. It will take me minutes to retrieve my lure back, and you can do that from bank or on a boat. I have caught a fair amount of bass fishing from shore using finesse techniques. It is still my favorite way to fish…
  18. $100 for two set up might be pushing it a little. C heck out our flea market. Our members always got something nice to sell if you don't mind used gears.
  19. PENN makes some budget friendly salt water gears. You can probably visit a local basspro shop and pick up a decent setup for around $150. If he is going to use it mostly for salt water fishing, than you might need that's at least 8'. But I have never used salt water gears for Bass fishing, I guess it could work...
  20. Right before sun comes up is my most productive time of the day in the summer. During spring and fall, I catch most of my Bass around 10am-1pm then bite turns off for few hours before picks back up before sunset.
  21. There are two Walmart store within 10 miles of my house and they carry different fishing items. I am able to pick up 4 dollar senko from time to time at one store. Then if i want to buy some pan fish items, i need to head over to a different store. After a while I am tired of it, and just order everything online.
  22. Bass should start to school up and should be able to pick few up once you find them. If you find a good group of baitfish then Bass will be near by. I like to use a search bait like pointer 100 or lipless crackbait. Once you can find them, then slow down and fish the entire area using few different baits.
  23. This year, I am having tons of fun using a stradic 2500/6’8 MH GL2 Jig & Worm rod. 1/8 or 1/4 Jig head using a single tail grub. If I am having a bad day, then rig up tiny zoom fluke in smoking shad with a drop shot setup. I can catch all kinds of stuff with it…haha.
  24. d**n....when are you putting that up for sale? LOL
  25. I went out last Sunday to fish Loch Raven and caught few bass, but it is too hot right now. I am staying indoor and drink beer lol...
