  1. A C. rig is essential for me in these conditions. Although, it seems when the bite is darn near impossible, I always gravitate to the heaviest cover and pick it apart flippin' and pitchin'. I really think confidence is more important at these times than any other.
  2. Have a good one, Muddy.
  3. I bought the chunks first as jig trailers then tried the craws T-rigged. Now, I don't even use the chunks and put the baby craws on jigs as trailers. I prefer these due to their hollow body. That nose cavity is perfect for stuffing a round rattle into. I also prefer a bit longer profile with my jigs for the stained water I fish most times. I do take all the craws out of the package when I get them home from the store and repack them making sure they are all laying flat and straight.
  4. All of 'em. I don't believe in renting lures. ;D ;D
  5. Ditto.
  6. Everything Catt said times two. When I fish a spinnerbait, I usually hit 2 - 3 branches with it... on the way in... and 20 on the retrieve. I like it in the jungle, but the jungle don't like trailer hooks. Besides, if the fish are short striking that means something is not quite right with the spinnerbait. Shortening the skirt, changing color, changing blade size/configuration or changing overall size almost always remedies the short strike. No trailer hooks for me. tarzan
  7. Gammy EWG and round bends as well as Excalibur Tx3's.
  8. I got 26.... and I got 'em all on a bubblegum spinnerbait in wood in a foot of water at night!! ;D
  9. I once had a A/C Delco Voyager deep cycle battery (27 class) that I used on my small 2-man boat for short trips and/or small lakes. My motor was a 12v 30-35 lbs. thrust transom-mount TM. I was told to always recharge regardless of how much I used it, so I always did. I did also charge on a low amp setting mostly. That battery lasted 6 years before I ever noticed a drop in capacity or shotened running time. So, I always recharge. Hope that helps, avid. dink
  10. I'm sure everyone here agrees that teachers, firemen, police, military etc. are far more important than the highly paid athletes, actors/actresses, other entertainers. Although, if one TRULY believes that the latter are grossly overpaid, then there is something quite simple they can do about it. Do NOT watch TV at all. Do NOT follow any sports at all. NEVER go to the movies again. NEVER buy another CD. If someone follows these suggestions, the celebreties among us will soon be earning a "fair" wage. It is easy to displace blame for this when one doesn't realize they are part of the force that keeps it going. So instead of jumping on a bandwagon and "hurumphing" about this and that, one should actually do something about it. My apologies for the harshness.... I just have a problem with people thinking that they are always the victim. BTW, athletes are FREE to earn what they can command.
  11. They are decent reels. I have 3 Rick Clunns and a Prolite Finesse. I will probably not buy another BPS reel for durability reasons. For arguments sake, I do fish 180 - 250 days a year and rarely less than 8 hours a day. I put ALOT of time on my equipment. The BPS reels tend to start breaking down for me after 2 - 3 years. I have had problems with the worm gears and pawls wearing out as well as return springs breaking. That being said, someone who might fish only 50 - 100 days a year may get 10 years out of one of these reels. Just food for thought and my own experience.
  12. I fish alot of dirty water and used rattles much of the time on jigs. The past few years I have been fishing jigs without rattles and have not noticed a difference. If I want rattles, I usually use glass worm rattles in the trailer instead of jig rattles for a more streamlined bait.
  13. Hey CJ, that area on Barkley sounded REAL familiar. Remember?
  14. Bass XL, There was once a thing called a Speedo-bead. This same company also made Speedo sinkers. They had a zig-zag slit in the side of the bead (or weight) that line could be threaded into after a hook or lure was tied (to the line). They proved to be too bulky and not very practical.
  15. Good one G. I ahve been referring to it as UN-common sense for years... and I am only 33! Does that make me a cynic??
  16. A delay definitely helps. I actually do a "double pump" set. When the fish hits, my body starts to set the hook but the rod never moves. After that short pause, I then set it.
  17. If "handles up" is 12:00 and "flat" is 3:00, then I am about 1:00 or 1:30.... snacktime. ;D
  18. Can you believe it??? (in reference to the growth and development of bass fishing inthe last 40 years)
  19. Find some crawdads at your local lake and look at the colors of the pincers. You will quickly realize shy many people dip their trailers in a different color dye.
  20. Amibition. Why does your head get "hot" when you get a "cold"?
  21. Good info. Don't forget to look for an important ingredient... food. Even with all the perfect conditions, no food usually equals no fish.
  22. Old Cordell Spots (one-knockers).
  23. Three broken arms, mild concussion, cracked rib, trashed ankle..... you get the picture. I still have 2 snowboards and skateboard sitting ten feet from my poles. Started when I was 15... I'll be 34 in April. ;D I might grow up someday.
  24. Anybody here try this stuff? Any info is appreciated.
  25. Two All Star 'sixers'. Medium power for jerkbaits and a heavy power for flippin'/skippin' docks.
