  1. I do believe that is a true statement, it is all about taking care of your gear/lures...but who wouldn't take care of something that is costly to maintain it's worth...I think paying over $15 for a lure is outragious, but at the same time if it last a very long time it's an investment, also if you fish professional I do believe that sponsors help you out with the lures and you get them at a very low price.
  2. Well you also have to take in perspective...some of us that use this website are far from upper middle to upper class, so therefore lures can be quite expensive and you can lose a 15-400 $ lure, the knot and line isn't always 100%...it's just that it's funney how fishing is becomming an expensive sport, maybe it's not outragious yet but soon enough if the economy doesn't turn worse then it has already, fishing will be very expensive. I agree we should invest more on products made in the U.S. then imported lures...this is our country bass fishing was founded in the U.S.
  3. Thanks I'll try it out.
  4. Where can I get a topographic map for the local reservoir I fish? I have looked everywhere.
  5. When the shad or baitfish school up this lure is deadly throwing past the school workin it over top of the school the bass explode the water...mkaing almost every cast hook-on.
  6. Plus in the spring when the water heats up if you go down to the pond try to wear camo or natural colors and you will get a chance to see what size the females are in the pond if the water clarity let's you.
  7. Yes, understandible but what's that have to do with lure pricing?
  8. Does anyone know why,(besides the economy not doing so well) lures have gone up in price? I have noticed they have gone up a buck or 2 but I don't understand why?
  9. P226 is my choice and is in the navy and is used by our elite force, especially using the Horrniday rounds.
  10. Zoom Fluke in all sizes, usually I fish it with a 3-4' leader and a 4/0 hook, the leader is so the line will not twist up.
  11. Yeah that's just the way I am man
  12. Thanks Wayne you have been a great help !
  13. Not saying it's true, im just going off experience. The lake I fish at I have seen huge mamas caught on the beginning of the spawn or late winter...just from my experience.
  14. you have to try to use different techniques...also the weather,water-temp,and clarity of the water are a big role on what to throw into the water... a roster tail is always a good way to start out on a new pond also go with more natural colors such as: watermelon seen, pumpkinseed, junebug, and if your state regs let you try and hook a bream in the back with a big cork and see if you have any luck.
  15. In dead winter in the south sometimes you will have what we like to call a "heat wave" during this period the weather is changed dramatically from about 30-40 degrees in difference..it can be one of the best days of the year to fish if you know the pattern. Usually the bigger bas will come realitively close to shore but, shore being close to deep water such as a ledge or point, or even a cove...I have seen really big bass caught on 3' running cranks in or around deep water into shallow water...usually the boat is in 20'+ and the shore is 2'-4' deep using a chartruse and black, or silver and white...something to draw a bite cause "they always say the biggest females spawn first..
  16. yeah getting the voltage isn't the problem...im a gse in the navy...and engineer...the problem is, is that im gone 8 months out of the year and the reservoir I fish at is owned by the city...and the boat that they rent out are aluminum and only ran on trolling motors...so to mount the tranducer would be a little difficult the screen isn't the problem.
  17. how can you make any unit portable?
  18. Does anyone have an opinion on a portable depthfinder to buy? I have looked at Humminbird and Lowerance.
  19. I am a firm believer in the fluke....especially during a post spawn around points and submergerged structure....the bass get really aggressive during the post spawn and they prefer to go after baitfish and or something that will trigger the bite and a fluke is my go-to bait for post spawn. It's action is sick and it will produce bass when other lure won't.
  20. I would match the water color especially if it's green staind, watermelon with the seed color woould def work well...you also have to take the water temp in to effect and what kind of pattern the bass are in this time of year.
  21. So I am stationed in Florida and I fish a pond here pretty freqently and there is some kind of grass that is very thick and I know it's not hydrilla...it's thicker and everytime I go to use a texas-rig its impossible not to pull this vegitation out without the weight and or the lure being covered in the vegitation, was wondering if anyone had any advice?
  22. I used to be a very adiqute vistor and poster on BR and have been trying to find the time to come back, I am currently enlisted in the United States Navy. So hello everyone hope to learn more from everyone and give some advice and knowledge that I have. -Andrew
