  1. I bought a used Lowrance I-finder Go2 off a board member here. It has worked really well for me, it operates about the same as the H20, just dosen't have the capability to download mapping programs like the H20. I have also used a Garmin Etrex legend, it also works well. I believe both can be had for around $150
  2. For shallow situations, Mann's baby 1 minus in craw, white, chartruese. Deeper, a Brad's Wiggler in craw color.
  3. I also would fish my water if I was on 'em. At our state federation level the non-boater has 4 hours on his water so there are occasions where I have had to deviate but that too sometimes works out.....I've caught fish on my non-boaters water and learned something new..
  4. I also have a Toho Rig. I formerly used a 100 qt cooler but had problems keeping it divided, everything I fashioned fell apart. I took the spray bar set-up from my cooler and it fit nicely in the Toho. I then took the pump that came with the Toho and made up a fill pump. I just drop it over the side and fill the livewell up. If I have a limit of fish I pump the water out about once an hour and then refill. Only downside to the Toho IMHO is that it is a little heavier than a cooler which slowed me down a little, especially when the Toho is full.
  5. I tried a sample I received from a fishing friend. We used them in conjunction with Zoom Super Flukes one day while fishing for smallies on a local river. We fished the SD weightless and texas rigged just as we fished flukes. When retreiving the SD we imparted small jerks on some casts on others a straight retreive. The SD caught just as many smallies as the flukes on that day. I liked the action and could see potential for fishing it over grass and around other cover. I found no problem with durability, I caught several fish on the one that I used.
  6. Squids post "I'm not happy" kind of spurred my to post this. This is a true story, I witnessed it..... I'm sitting at a red light one day and beside a red pick-up truck which is to my right. I notice that just to my left a blind man is standing on the curb with his seeing eye dog waiting to cross the street. This intersection had walk / don't walk pedestrian signals. The signal for the blind man is "Walk" but obviously he cannot see it. Our light turns to green and the dog starts to walk leading the blind man across the street and in our path. They now have a "Don't Walk" signal. I remain stopped as does the guy in the pick-up. When the dog and blind man reach the pick-up, the driver leans out the window and says "Hey you dummy, can't you see it says DON'T WALK?" The blind man becomes furious and replies "YOU dummy can't you see I'm blind?" The pick-up driver fires right back "HEY, I wasn't talking to you, I was talking to your dog." The blind man whacks the pick-up's grill with a sideswipe of his cane, then continues on his way.....the pick-up also drives away. I tried soooo hard not to laugh.......Not at the blind man, but that I witnessed the whole thing, SOME PEOPLE
  7. Words don't say enough........
  8. justfishin, I'm sorry that you felt slighted by the words I used, it was not my intention to attack you or your information. My first reply said "To tell someone that tubes should always be fished down current is IMHO inaccurate" After reading your first post you didn't really specify that you were talking about fishing rapids and current that most of us would not even try to navigate, let alone fish. At the end of you first post it also stated that you hoped some of the younger or inexperienced anglers could use your info. In reading your post I took from it that you always recommend fishing down current. I felt that younger or inexperienced anglers would maybe take that as "you should always fish river tubes downcurrent" which I sure you'll agree is not proper for all river situations. Had you posted the pics in the first post of the areas you were trying to describe I would have understood and probably agreed with you. That would also describe my second post where I used the word misleading, describing same thing and also prior to you posting pics. I'm sure the info you posted is not misleading or inaccurate in the rapids you fish. It certainly would not work most of the time here.....That's what I was trying to get across, all river situations are not the same. "I got a lesson on tube weights"------ No insult on you intended, you just never mentioned it, thought some people following the thread may need to know that detail, I'm sure you agree with me there. I'm terribly sorry you felt the need to delete you post, this discussion may have enlightened alot of people on new techniques to river fish :-/
  9. The prosecutors are squeezing Vick's toes......... If he pleads guilty BEFORE the Grand Jury reaches a decision to indict on additional charges, no additional charges can or will be added, it would make it double jeporady. Vicks attorneys know this and are urging him to plead now so he is not facing additional charges. I will be anxious to see what type of sentence he recives and the reaction from the NFL.
  10. Been raining here for better part of 2 days, I'm PUMPED!!! The local river has been low and clear with little flow, this rain will add some color, level, and flow, and fishing will be on fire!!! Just in time for this weekends tournament
  11. Old news, that topic was heavily debated here over a year ago............
  12. Jig w/ football style head. They tend to be a little more user friendly when it comes to snags. Cast it out and work it around the rocks, hop it, rip it, whatever gets you bites.
  13. A town of 3000 people, that's all??? :-X
  14. Not the Susky but the Allegheny in conditions you describe. Don't get me wrong, I do agree that in certain times it is necessary to throw upstream, but in other situations drifting along can and does produce fish. It allows you to target small pockets and eddies created by breaks along the shorline, they might be small, but it seems that when water is high and fish are using these small breaks that every single one holds fish. Maybe it's different styles of fishing we are comparing, I just have found that to say that you ALWAYS throw upriver would be a little misleading, at least on the rivers here.
  15. My river friend, I must respectfully disagree with you a little.............. When one fishes a tube throwing it up current, you are trying to acheive keeping the tube in the strike zone the entire time while working it back toward you. In many situations it is totally impossible to work a tube down current because of obstructions or "snags" if you will. To tell someone that tubes should always be fished down current is IMHO inaccurate. If a river angler can match the water's drift speed and keep the tube in the strike zone, that's the key. One thing paramount to a good tube drift is the size of internal head used inside the tube. Use one too heavy and snags are frequent, too light, bait never touches bottom. I often fish tubes as you describe, but many others times I'm drifting right along with he current and making casts to targets, allowing the tube to bounce right along also. Match the drift and you'll get bit.......
  16. I frequently use a green pumpkin trailer on a black/blue jig. Don't know why but that combo catches me a bunch of fish.....
  17. Awesome
  18. What is it about river smallies and those small in-line spinners? Those baits are soooo overlooked these days, but as you have just shown, anyone can whack a bunch of fish in no time on those things. Awesome..
  19. Turkey and waterfowl, that's about it anymore.....
  20. Favorite football is a 3/4 oz PJ's coupled with a Micro Munch hydrosilk skirt and zoom ultra vibe speed craw trailer. That combo along with a Micro Munch grass jig won we a tournament last weekend, plus lunker of 5.58 lbs.
  21. Now, I'm not a racing fan but it seems that every die hard race fan has some kind of number stickered to thier family truckster, maybe you should get a sticker? LOL ;D I coudn't name 3 either,,,,,,,
  22. My 4 basic tube colors are GP, black, smoke, brown. I do own a few variations like Green Pumpkin Candy, but agree that the basics mentioned will catch you fish anywhere in PA.
  23. Since my fishing time is limited these days, I fish no matter what. If I arrive to bad thunderstorms I will wait till they pass, I hate lightning and it's not worth the risk. I simply adjust to the mood of the fish and allow current conditions to dictate wich type of presentation then either speed up, or slow down, or change baits and presentations, until I find one that gets me a few bites. Once I get a few bites I try to refine from there. I have actually found that a cold front can get the fish biting if it's been hot for a period of time. Now, that's here in the North, the South may be a different story as it seems the fish are more affected by fronts there. As far as wind, use it to your advantage. Fish wind blown shorelines or target areas where the wind is blowing current over or around something. Anytime is a good time to fish
  24. Yes it works. I've found that a 2 1/2" or 3" tube works best. Either a size 1 drop shot hook or a 1/0 EWG style hook handles a tube well.
  25. I think both products have their time and place. I have caught fish on both but don't use each interchangably. I use powerbait worms a great deal, I also use GULP! worms and more recently a little experimenting with Lake Erie smallies and the GULP! goby. I'll tell you this, in my recent experience, if a Lake Erie smallie gets ahold of a GULP! goby, it dosen't get spit out.
