  1. I don't watch too much football but I did watch this game being born in Pittsburgh. Pitt's defense played quite a good game. Anyone think the results would have been different if WV's quarterback didn't get hurt?
  2. I know a few guys here who target bass through the ice. They use medium sized shiners on tip ups and do pretty well. I have ice fished a little, usually targeting panfish, but on occassion I catch bass. It's kind of freaky, IMHO, they are not as lethargic as some would think. They will chase down the minnows just like they do in warmer water.
  3. I'm gettin a trip to Guntersville at the end of March
  4. Nice! Is it swimming in the river or in hot oil? I have a hard time throwing walleye back, they are just sooo good to eat.
  5. I defiantely want a map. I'd like some input from those who already have one. Anyone care to share which map to buy?
  6. Never had a fish ram the boat but like others here I also have had a smallmouth jump into my aluminum boat.
  7. GULP! does not work for drop shotting Lake Erie smallies. In all seriousness, I've had phenominal days this year using certain GULP! baits, the shakey worm, leech, and goby were awesome for big smallies.
  8. Hardcore man! No steelhead this year?
  9. Awesome! Hope she continues to put you guys to shame
  10. Can't wait for an answer.....I had the same thing happen to me, have about 15 cranks with rust stains. I tried a few mild soaps w/ no success. Think maybe Coca-Cola would work?
  11. I feel the same way. I am PUMPED UP!!!!! X3!
  12. I have not seen the boat since it was ransacked. According to my friend, he feels that the theif used a Sawz-All (sp?) to cut the transom. As far as the insurance, he did not have boat insurance. I do not know what company his homeowners is through, all I know is that he was told by his insurance company that they would not cover the loss. Unfortunately, the small area where his boat was parked is kind of hidden and not frequently traveled. I did not post this to start a debate, just to pass along info that may help someone in the future. I can say this, being in law enforcement I see alot of thefts. You'd be suprised what insurance companies do once push comes to shove.......
  13. Man this story sucks but I'll share it in the event something shows up. A friend of mine had his boat parked behind his house. It was a 14 foot Lowe jon boat w/a 20 hp Tohatsu tiller jet outboard, Minn Koat bow mount trolling motor, gas tank, 2 batteries. Some low life stole everything except the boat. The motor was bolted on and the theif actually cut the transom to remove the motor. The Minn Kota was also cut off. Total loss is somewhere around $6000. His insurance will not cover the loss. Where he had his boat parked was just off his property and in a small lot behind his house where he had permission to park it due to lack of space in his small yard. Some people..... Beware of the theives :-/
  14. LOL!! Thought I was the only one who caught that
  15. I've also caught many with similar black spots, just not as many as that one! Cool!
  16. Today was another great steelhead day! The day before Thanksgiving the Erie tribs were blown out from 2 inches of rain. By today they were back down and a really nice color and what a day Me and 2 friends landed over 30 with many more hooked up that got away. Bait of the day were Emerald shiners fished below a Drennan float, 6 lb test floro, 8-10 foot noodle rods. My last fish of the day was big fish for the day. It was a female that had yet to spawn, went around 10 lbs.
  17. I use the following 2...... I have a pair of seal skinz gloves, they aren't too bad. They keep your hands dry and are not too thick thus allowing a little feel. You will not be able to tie thin line or anything that requires dexterity in these gloves. I ususally only use these gloves if it is REALLY cold, say around or below freezing. Above freezing temps I use a pair or wool gloves (no felt liners PLAIN WOOL) with the fingers cut off. These keep my hands warm as I grip a reel or rod plus they will retain their heat even when wet. I'm lucky.....my hands don't get cold easily, either that or I tolerate the cold a little more than some others. I spend a fair amount of time steelhead fishing when it is snowing, windy, around freezing temps. May I add that when temps are that cold I usually also have a disposable handwarmer in a pocket so that if my hands do get cold I can quickly warm them up. This is what works for me, hope you find your solution.
  18. Fishing in PA waters. Crowds were pretty bad once the sun came up, just walked a little farther away and found a little serenity, for a little while anyway. Season is just really getting good here, the tribs have been pretty low for much of the fall, now after a couple good rains the fish have spread out some. We didn't catch any really big ones, largest was around 8 lbs, most were 5-7 lbs. Did see a few hogs but they had lock jaw. I usually hit the Catt once a fall, haven't ventured there yet.
  19. Whelp, sorry no pics, left the camera sitting on the table this morning....... Fish were smokin this morning. Between my buddy and I, we went through 4 dozen emerald shiners and assorted other baits all before 10:30 AM. Had countless hook-ups and landed over 20. We quit around 10:30, ran out of shiners and crowded conditions were making it like combat conditions. Every time we hooked up other anglers would bombard us. Hung it up at that point but had a great morning despite my breathable waders springing leaks, my toes were a little cold . Will be out again in next couple weeks and won't forget the camera
  20. Finish tying a new bait on, clip the tag end off, toss the bait overboard and realize you clipped the wrong end and your bait does not float.......doooohhhh!!!!
  21. So is that a bluefin or yellow fin? I caught one.......once...... took a 1/2 day charter while vacationing in the keys. It was waaay smaller than that horse but man was it tasty!! To this day my wife won't eat fish, the fresh tuna steaks we had ruined her!
  22. With the holiday season fast approaching, I'd like to offer a reminder........ Please don't DRINK AND DRIVE. Every holiday season I unfortunanely witness a tragedy that could have been avoided. It always saddens me to see people who are lost because they CHOOSE to get behind the wheel after drinking. You do have other choices, have a desginated driver, don't drink if you are driving, stay where you are after drinking, the list goes on and on. Although being arrested is the easy way out (as opposed to crashing and hurting yourself or others) think about how it would affect your life. Would you loose your job? How would you afford the costs of going to court and penalties you will face? How would you tell your children, wife, girlfriend, family? Lets all have safe and happy holiday season!
  23. X2 X3 Like alot have already mentioned, a college education is invaluable in today's world. My younger brother decided to "take a year off" after high school. He NEVER went back and now he is paying for it. He has yet to hold a decent well paying job. There will be plenty of time to fish. Think of it this way, taking 2 or 4 years to complete college is a really short amount of time in the long run of life.
  24. Haven't seen any steelhead threads or pics lately, anyone hitting the Great Lakes tribs for steelhead? I ususally have fished several times by this late in the fall but my work schedule hasn't allowed me to. Tomorrow will be my first outing for the fall, I will be fishing Lake Erie tribs! I can't wait.........pics to follow after the day!
  25. Awww shucks, Highland.....Holiday......at least each belongs with an H ;D
