  1. When fishing a shakey head do you fish light with a spinning rod, heavy with a casting setup, or some combination of both?
  2. I've looked around and can't find a 2X treble with a wide gap and maybe short shank. I buy floating jerkbaits, put a size bigger hooks on and stronger hooks and I've ran out. If anyone has suggestions please let me know!
  3. I saw a friend lose a 10 lb bass at the boat because he straightened the stock treble. I'm wanting to get a 2x or 3x hooks with a wide gap if possible. Looked around and not finding much. Any advice, what do you use on cranks and stickbaits?
  4. I figured there would be problems with suspending jerkbaits so I bought a floater put one size bigger hooks on it, from a 6 to a 4, and it suspended by adding one split ring. Im fine with doing that if it means not losing big fish by having bigger hooks.
  5. Recently a friend of mine hooked an easy 5lber and an easy 8lber. The 5 threw the hooks and the 8+ straightened the hook at the boat. The jerkbait was a rogue with #6 hooks on it, so I switched out the hooks for VMC spark point 4x hooks. I'm wondering if I could change the tail hook to a sureset like on rapalas for extra security. Anyone have experience with these hooks?
  6. I have a Supreme MGX and I hate the handle on it, can I buy a Supreme XT handle and have it fit??
  7. You can't go wrong with the BPS Carbonlite the new model is a little softer than the previous but it is the best $100 rod in sensitivity, weight, and has a strong back bone in my opinion.
  8. I just got a few from bps and I think they would work great for big spawning slabs!!
  9. Deep jerkbaits, stand up jigs worked really slow, shakey head, then c-rig. I hardly ever make it to using the c-rig because the jerkbaits and jigs work great for me.
  10. On A-rigs you should be using 80# or 85#. It's recommended because if you get hooked on a tree or something the swivel will straighten out and you'll get your rig back only losing 1 lure instead of the whole $50 setup.
  11. Yo-zuri is a good choice but I think seaguar invisix is a great choice. I use 8lb and its always laid on the reel well because it's lower diameter.
  12. No I'd just rather not hit the tip on the water when working the jerkbaits but thanks for the serious feedback
  13. Spinning because of line management and easier to throw lighter tackle
  14. I use 20lb Kanzen with 8lb fluoro leader. Always use the uni to uni knot when attaching braid to fluoro. Use 8 wraps on braid and 5 on fluoro. Easy to tie great strength
  15. Good or bad for jerkbaits? Oh and it was 50 bucks
  16. Thanks for the comments. After testing knots breaking strengths I will be going with the uni to uni instead of the modified Albright
  17. The line is a great choice and my favorite knot is the SD knot or double SD, both are great with fluoro and in personal strain tests they both performed better than all other common knots such as the Palomar, improved clinch, or Zona shark knot which is a knock off of another knot.
  18. Nothing against the veritas because I almost bought one but since I bought the carbonlite... My father and I have a combined 7 rods! We use them mainly for jig fishing ( 7' H) and you can feel everything on the bottom plus they have a great backbone and are very light weight. I've heard of more than one veritas breaking from being too skinny towards the tip. Trust me if you go with the carbonlite you won't be sorry.
  19. I've looked at a lot of knots and I can tie alot. I wasn't specific enough with my quesrion.... Do you wrap the braid or leader around the other when making albrights and knots like it. Does it matter which is wrapped I just don't want the braid to cut the leader

  21. Bought a 7' M Browning Hi Power Spinning rod and a Pflueger Supreme MG reel today with 20lb. Kanzen and 8lb. Fluorocarbon. Tied alot of joining knots but I have a question.... how many of you wrap the braid around the leader or wrap the leader around the braid? They both seemed strong to me but which is strongest?
  22. I've been using a Johnny Morris 7' Medium spinning rod for my finesse jigs and shaky heads but I feel like I'm losing too many fish. I want a MH or just a better M rod for under $100. What do you recommend and what is your Finesse setup?
  23. I have a 7' M falcon t7 cara rod that I use for topwater and crankbaits. When I catch a fish it has no backbone to it. I think I want a MH with a moderate or moderate fast tip but I'm not sure. I want this rod to be able to throw a 15+ crankbait but have a soft enough tip for topwater lures. Any SUGGESTIONS??????
  24. 7 inch strike king super finesse worm or Z man finesse worm in green pumpkin and watermelon. Both are made with elaztech and float better than zoom trick worm or others like it and they won't tear. A friend of mine caught 85 fish in two days on one Z man worm.
  25. I want to float the Meramec where I can catch big trout or smallmouth. I have a canoe but I don't know what part to float. I live in Rolla. Any advice??
