  3. Doin' it...playing hookie next Friday and leaving South Florida for Suwanee. Hoping to catch some trout but really hoping to get some redfish because...well because I've never caught one lol. If anyone has any pointers on the reds let me know! Thanks!
  4. Thank you evrgladesbasser. Yes we got out there super early and we were out by noon We were thinking of doing the Holey Lands tomorrow.
  5. Fishing is my peace and has been since I was a teenager and while I prefer to catch fish, just being out there really is never a loss for me. Now that I am giving freshwater a go the thing that also clears my head is organizing my tackle boxes...it's the strangest thing.
  6. Thanks for the support! Trust me, I do not give up on fishing...I was ready to go out to the Holey Land area today after Blue Lagoon. The bf however, is another story lol. I just can't handle the canoe myself so if he doesn't stay interested then I am going to be stuck bank fishing entirely. We did just start in August I would say. Before we really "got into it", we used to fish Corbett and we would catch all the time...nothing big, but it kept him interested. Now I think our goals have changed a little and we are in that awkward part of the learning curve.
  7. ...and my bf is about to quit all together :/ We got up this morning at 4:30 and hauled the canoe down to Blue Lagoon ramp in Miami as was suggested in a previous thread I posted. We got there at 615ish. We fished the more natural area on the Southeast side of the lagoon, then we fished along the dolphin expressway on the rocks and lilly pads. We crossed back over fishing along throwing everything we had - Zara Spooks, KVD sexy frogs, rapalas, yozuri floating minows, and some flukes...We even went over to the west side into I guess that is Tamiami canal? NOTHING...we saw big fish, we saw little fish but we had no action. I actually got a new frog set up as was suggested in my other thread and it totally changed my presentation and it was so much better but NOTHING I feel like the more I learn the worse my fishing is getting lol. We had such high hopes today I guess. I even snarled up my new reel in my frustration. I enjoyed it down there...it was much nicer than I expected and it would seem as if we should at least get a bite lol. The bf started to complain about how this just doesn't seem worth the work we put into it anymore...I tried to throw him overboard but it's hard to do in a canoe without sacrificing yourself lol. Sorry I guess I needed to vent.
  8. Idk yet lol we mapped out every place in this thread and we are just going to head out around 5am and see what happens lol.
  9. Thank you everyone! We are going to give it a shot this weekend!
  10. WTG! I love your enthusiasm!
  11. Thank you guys! One last question...we have never been down to Holiday Park. Is that somewhere you can fish from shore or canoe?
  12. Oh...I forgot one important thing...we prefer not to be urban fishing. I like to relax when I am fishing and the smell of exhaust and car noise doesn't really gel lol. We may try that out of desperation though thanks!!!
  13. Hey everyone. We are looking to head south to do some fishing but we don't know where. We would like to catch bass and peacocks if possible. Keep in mind we are boatless so we could only fish from shore or by canoe. Any ideas of decent areas considering our restrictions? We don't know anyone down there so community lakes are out for us too. TIA.
  14. Thank you all so much! This is some of the education I need lol. Sooooooooooo...next question is...if I DID want to have a frog set up, what would you recommend? I'd like to keep it simple since I am not sold on frogs yet anyway lol.
  15. Well I only have two rods...a pfleuger lady trion (which is what I was using) and my "lucky" walmart special lol. I believe I have 10 lb braid on the pfleuger although I'm not 100% on that.
  16. Are you just reeling slowly at the edge? Usually I don't have the patience but yesterday I didn't really have a choice lol.
  17. This has always been a challenge for me although yesterday on the one fish I was so good. He hit it...I basically froze lol...I kept my left hand totally of the pole just to convince myself to wait. I still ended up yanking it out of his mouth in the end but at least I got to see it this time unlike many others hahaha. Thanks for the advice!
  18. As I read through all of these threads and topics I see a lot of people like using frogs. I have yet to do so successfully so I am wondering what I am doing wrong. I have the generic green guy, a sexy frog that is blue white and yellow and some other crazy contraption like frog that we bought for fun. Yesterday I used the KVD sf because the area was really weedy and had lilly pads. I didn't get much action from one area and then in another I got some hits but only one small guy really took it. I tried to wait for him but when I finally did pull on my rod he came out of the water and spit the frog. I guess I am just not sure how to fish a frog in general. My bf thinks I need to be more consistent in how I manuver it...idk...can someone help me with the basics here?
  19. Wow I wish I had shown up just to see what everyone brought in!
  20. Great thank you! We were checking out a few places in Hayward! Hoping to make a decision tonight. We go to the dells but more for out of the way stuff rather than the drag. My bf took me there a few years ago and I was like um...I grew up in Florida remember? No tourist traps please lol. We actually found a great campground outside the dells...I think it was in Lindon Station or something like that. Good times...
  21. Mods please delete I posted in the wrong section! Thank you!
  22. I am trying to plan a trip to Wisconsin in July. The ultimate goal being relaxation lol. We are hoping to make it a fishing/tubing/outdoor kind of vacation. We will be bringing our dogs as well. Originally we were looking in the Hayward area and Wisconsin Dells. Keeping our goals in mind any and all suggestions as to where you love to go in Wisconsin would be appreciated. We will be staying 5-7 days. Also if you know of anyone who rents and is pet friendly let me know. We are using vrbo right now. We do have three performance dogs and have used vrbo in the past so we do have references
