  1. Thanks for the heads up, at this price it is a can't miss deal.
  2. I use straight FC for my jig and worm fishing, I believe that it offers an advantage in sensitivity during the fall of the bait on slack line.
  3. The -6 would indicate that it is a MH / F rod. The MH / F combination of power and action make it among the most versatile rods, capable of perfroming well with many applications.
  4. Truthfully the 2nd Gen Winch is more similar to the Revo S. The 2nd Gen Winch uses pitch/centrifugal brakes and a single piece spool shaft as does the Revo S. The STX is a dual brake and SX is magnetic only, both use the infinini II spool. The new 3rd Gen Revo Winch is more similar to a STX in the fact that it has the dual braking, but still uses a single piece spool shaft like the S. I use a 2nd and the new 3rd gen Winch, they both are great reels for med to deep cranking. The Gen 2 is a bigger profile and heavier reel, but if you are using it on a 7'6" - 8' deep cranking rod it does not make much difference. The Gen 3 Winch is much lighter, smaller profile, sits nice on 7ft graphite cranking rods for medium divers and such.
  5. If you want to stay with the Dobyns line of rods look at the 765CB Glass or the 805CB, the 805CB has incredible balance for an 8ft rod.
  6. If you have an Academy Sports or can order online, they have a nice knockoff of the gunfish for much less.
  7. Just a setup I enjoy a lot.
  8. Potassium helps to prevent muscle cramps, an easy source is bananas.
  9. The Dobyns is a much better balanced rod, build quality is similar, but the Avid series rods tend to be slightly tip heavy IMHO.
  10. This article is from another site, it does a good job of explaining how an anti-reverse bearing works. Heavy lubes can prevent the bearing from working properly and most reel mechanics only use a small amount of oil on these. http://tinyurl.com/d3ld3gu
  11. The play you are feeling most likely is the where the main shaft passes through the retainer that bolts it to the frame, they typically place a spacer or two to help shim it up. But in the less expensive reels they don't take a lot of time to get it right, they just add the shim and what you get is what you get. If you have the know how just remove the retaining clip and add another thin washer, should remove the play you are feeling.
  12. The 705CB come in your choice of glass or graphite.
  13. Borrowed from another site with the same question. There was a post talking about fishing line and its "shelf life". i.e. how long would the line be "good" if it were stored in the dark in with good storage and humidity control. I thought that I would go to the manufacturer, so I sent an e-mail to Berkley - makers of Trilene and Fireline. The following is their response with respect to mono shelf life. Take care REW 2/3 years. Nylon monofilament has a shelf life of 2 to 3 years. You can find this date code on the bottom of your spool label. It will be something like K-12-3-11, the second number, in this case 3 tells us this line was made in 2003. Nissa Lundquist Customer Service Representative Berkley Corp. Called "Pure Fishing" parent company of Stren, Berkley etc...customer service, they said 2-3 years. But they are also in the NEW fishing line business. They told me there is a date code with dashes on the back of the spools. a-10-09 would be Jan. 10th. 2009 b-10-09 would be Feb. 10th. 2009 c-10-09 would be March 10th 2009 Ending with L being December. FYI they said the same date codes are used on there bait/lures.
  14. Horrific, how can we even begin to console the parents and families of the victims of this senseless crime. My heart goes out to them.
  15. I like the Bass Assault swim jigs, favorite colors are Chartreuse Bream and Bluegill.
  16. Both, models like the 92FS and M9 are still metal guns, but they also have composite models that are popular now like the PX4 Storm and the Nano, Colt has kinda been on the downslide since about 1984 when the Military decided to replace the 1911 as the standard issue sidearm, then in 1988 they lost the contract for the M-16.
  17. Glock 17 and 19, Sig Sauer 226, 2022, Springfield XD, XDM, EMP. I prefer 9MM guns, many others like larger caliber.
  18. They started hitting the market in the later part of 2008 if I remember correctly
  19. I'm glad your reel works well, lot's of others I know have had the same experience. The brakes and spool tension were set correctly.
  20. I bought one on a whim, thought what the heck everyone is talking about how good these are. I could not get mine to cast more than about 25yards. I thought it was proabably just over lubed from the factory so I did a complete disassembly, flushed all the bearings oiled them up with rocket fuel, and it still cast about 25yards. Sold it for $40 bucks and never looked back. Probably just a bad reel, but it was enough to make me not want another one.
  21. I personally don't disagree with what you stated. My point is that rod Mfg's give us Power and Action ratings on their rods. Power being the amount of pressure required to flex the rod, and action being the point that the rod flexes along the blank. The Mfg's don't offer any information about recovery or tip speed. I think a lot of people just use the term tip and action interchangeable, not that it's correct but it has just become a common practice.
  22. I think a lot of it is just semantics, the term "tip" and "action" have become synonymous.
  23. The Gen1 PRM was a mag brake only reel. The Gen3 STX is a dual brake reel, the Gen3 PRM uses IVCB brakeing like the MGX. Worth the $100 extra is a question only you can answer.
  24. The people that I know have done it recommend getting the drag star, drag spring, and drag nut. Makes for a nice looking reel.
