  1. The time you spend learning to identify and fish off shore structure will def. not be wasted. Like others I use 12lb FC, Tatsu to be exact for fishing deeper crankbaits. Most company's produce a good deep crankbait reel in a lower IPT to help with the drag these baits create. A longer rod with a Moderate or Moderate Fast Action will be well suited to this type of fishing.
  2. As I did not quote the OP, my post was directed more towards the flow of the thread and not so much one individual post. He had expressed that he is an ABU fan, and who better to hear from than someone who actually has used their product and is considering moving on because he has found more value in a similar priced product.
  3. I personally did not take it as you were trying to brand bash, but some of the later comments took that type of tone. Every company out there has great products and some that need improvement, I am just advocating contacting whatever company it may be and see what they can do to help, and give them the honest feedback so that they can possibly make corrections.
  4. I don't disagree with that, as it is exactly what I would do in the same situation. But not before he spent several hundred dollars on a product that he finds problem with. What if someone had taken the action to actually contact the company and let them know what they are experiencing, maybe something would have actually gotten changed. I guess what I am trying to say is that you can come here and air it out and it just sounds like brand bashing, or you can actually go to the company, spend the same amount of time and help get it fixed.
  5. The unit I have came from Harbor Freight, it is a heated unit, with a fair sized tank, I will run out to the garage and look and see what the name is on it, but I am fairly certain it is sold under many brands. I have had it for 3 or 4 years now and it has not failed to work. Checked the brand on it and it says Chicago. I think I paid like 75 dollars for it. http://www.harborfreight.com/25-liter-ultrasonic-cleaner-95563.html
  6. I sure hope the folks over at Pure Fishing will be able to sleep tonight with all this well thought out and highly detailed criticism of the their product. If you don't like their product, why not write to them and let them know your disappointment, see what they can do to make it right. Standing on a soap box on a internet forum that is obviously heavy supported by Shimano Fans only makes it look exactly like that. Choose to do something productive about it.
  7. OE, I clean them the same as any other lubricant, I put them in a small glass jar filled with clean acetone and run in my ultrasonic, I repeat until the acetone stays clean.
  8. I agree, the EVA knobs are just not as nice as the Daiwa cork knobs. Especially on this reel, the EVA knobs do nothing to make it feel special.
  9. Someone told me that age is just the number that tells you how many years you have had the opportunity to become mature.
  10. ABU Part Number 1214325
  11. Two very different reels, go to the store and check them out for yourself, see which one you like the best.
  12. The literal Japanese translation of Aoi is blue, the two characters of the logo on the front of the reel are for the Shogun family and the second represents the wolf. There were 300 of these reels made in 2006. They were a commemorative model celebrating the TD-Z which was last made in 2005. Basically a TD-Z type R with some tuning. I am going to give you a "Comon Man" I Googled this stuff in like two minutes.
  13. A wide spool also maintains it's IPT better than a narrow spool because you have more line laying at the same level on the spool.
  14. If you have the ability go to the store and check them all out. Pick the one you like the best, most of the reels in this price range are going to give you good service if you maintain them properly. The Tatula and Lews would be at the top of my list.
  15. I have an IB and it is a very very smooth reel, not sure what all has been done to these to give them added smoothness over the Premier but ABU got it right.
  16. Time away from work and a great meal with my family.
  17. Gloomis NRX 854 Megabass Orochi XX F6½-70XX jig and worm Not sure what your budget is but my advice is always purchase the very best rod you can afford for any type of contact bait fishing.
  18. I have not had any issue with silicone or rubber skirts bleeding color.
  19. Nice colors, I like the peas and carrots and the bleeding light melon. You should try your hand at wire tying a few.
  20. Great collection of beautiful reels
  21. What type of sights were on the gun. It makes quite a bit of diference in the value.
  22. The knob is made so that it is capable of clicking and will when it is used with a reel that already supports this feature, like the Zillion. The Fuego does not spport this feature so it does not click.
  23. Point taken- Tennessee Whisky
