complete faith, I use it as a knot when flathead and bluecat fishing, I have pulled in some fish that way much more than any bass that has been caught in recent times, with no problems. Great knot and easy to tie.

I have changed the hooks and added split rings, but you have to modify the existing hook hangar a bit for it to work just right. I also add a feathered trebble to the rear . I will post a pic sometime.

I own 20-25 combos, they value in cost and quality. On the majority of days I fish, I can get by with 3, on other days when the fishing is a little more tough, I might use 5. It is nice to have specific combos for different techniques, and multiples of some so you don't have to retie as often, but you can certainly get by without them and still catch a lot of fish and have a great time.

Every hobby out there has different levels from beginner to enthusiast, get in where you fit in. Fishing is about enjoyment if you can enjoy fishing on the cheap then do it, if it takes top end equipment to bring out the enjoyment, then do it. Cheap and expensive are subjective terms at best anyway.

All of the Dobyns rods that I have used have very good balance regardless of style, I am a believer in fish what is comfortable to you, I believe it a personal preference.

734C and 735C as mentioned are what you should be looking at in this series of rods. If I were only going to have 1, I would get the 734c based on it's versatility.

This process is mainly for finesse type presentations as I understand it. You have to keep in mind that some of the spools used in these specialized reels cost more than the complete reel that a lot of us use. The idea is that braid weights less than other lines, it also fills a spool faster so less line is needed. The additional weight saved by doing this is just a bonus on top of an already ultralight and shallow spool.

I am confused at the recommendations for using the 705C, this is an XH F rod, seems like overkill for baits in the 1/4 -3/8oz range, the 735C is a MH XF and in my mind has too much tip for baits in the 1/4oz range, I typically hear this rod recommended as a good frog heavy jig, and light swimbait rod.

Polk Daniels is another that is not outside of traveling distance of Wichita, and usually produces good numbers, sometimes they are not that big but it is a fun little lake to fish.

The spools should be compatible with one another, as they both use in the infini II design. The only thing I can think of trying is to clean the groove that the spool lip rides in on the frame, it is a close tolerance area and if it gets dirt or debris in it, it might cause some noise- its a long shot.

Either will work, the problem many experience with grease is that it tends to hold onto the pollen and other debris more than the oil. If you use oil, you may find your reel to be a little smoother if you go to something with a higher viscosity that the oil you would typically use on your bearings.

I have the 703 and a 734, the 703 is a versatile rod, I do not like this rod for anything over 3/8oz. it seems a bit overpowered after that. I would recommend looking at the 4 power if your bait weight will exceed 3/8oz. and prefer the 734 over the 704 for jigs and TX rigs.

I have no idea, your post is confusing, on one hand you say that it cast great but has a loud squealing noise. The only part of the reel that is moving during the cast is the spool, everything else is disengaged. For the life of me I can't think of anything related to the spool that would make that much noise and still allow it to cast well. Your original post makes it sound as though you bought more than one, if this is the case, my suggestion would be to remove the spool from one of the other reels and replace the one that is making the squealing and see if it continues or stops.

I was at Gander Mountain today so I had the opportunity to compare both the *** rod and the Gander GSX side by side, both are nice rods with the nod in build quality going to the *** offering, I preferred the handle on the GSX. In terms of sensitivity I don't have much to compare to as I don't fish many spinning setups, I do have an Abu Veritas and a Falcon Lowrider, I feel that the GSX is better than the Veritas and on par with low rider. Your experience may vary.

I have one of the spinning rods, build quality is what you would see in most rods around the 100 dollar price point, however in terms of sensitivity it surprised me.

My experience tells me that if the handle in actually spinning in reverse, that you still have an anti-reverse issue. Even with the gear train disengaged, the handle should not move in reverse, so that would eliminate your pinion gear possibility.
