  1. Why you angry John?
  2. I'm sure your right, see what I was doing there was making a funny.
  3. I don't think 1/2 a jerkbait will work,
  4. What kind of problems are you guys having with the metal pins? The only problem that I have is that the powder paint sticks to them and after several jigs I either have to clean it off or just use a new pin. I'm interested in what I'm missing?
  5. I once broke a Carrot Stix rod. But not like you would think. I made a cast at a willow tree that has some low hanging branches near the water and became a little tangled in them. I twitched and popped the line trying to get it loose until I became a little frustrated. I then tried to break the line off and of course it came loose, it shot back at me at a speed that was impressive, I could see this bullet weight spinning in the air and heading directly toward me, it was like one of those slow motion effects in the Matrix. Suddenly before loosing a tooth the bullet weight hit very flush on the rod blank and fell to the ground. A couple of fish later and snap goes the Carrot Stix.
  6. It makes the point I want.... Don't worry, I took a bunch of pictures with some kids afterwards so it made it ok.
  7. I was trying to beat the American Flag off my boat with my rod and it gave up first.
  8. I understand the point he was trying to make. It has nothing to do with the centrifugal brakes. It has to do with having the spool pushed to one side with the cast control cap and then trying to shut the other side while under tension. Some reels will not close properly until you at least back the spool tension off a little.
  9. Borrowed it from another forum. No info on where it came from originally. Heard that it may actually be more related to the crappie spawn, but nothing definite.
  10. Take 10 of them and pull the skirts off of them and put them in a zip lock bag for later use. Buy yourself a few packages of premade skirts and you will have a few different colors to use.
  11. What's the value of the pride you feel when you catch a fish on a bait you made yourself. Feels pretty good when your friends ask where you got the jigs at, and you tell them you make them yourself. If you have around a 100 dollars and some time, you can make a bunch of jigs.
  12. Put the pin in when you powder coat, then into the oven to bake, when you take the jigs out of the oven make sure they are still hot and the pins can be pulled without chipping the paint.
  13. The Patriarch, Supreme XT and Supreme MGX are all being replaced with new models of the same reels. They have them for order on the TW site. I checked the Pflueger website and they still show the old reels but strangely do not have the MGX listed any longer. Not sure what that means.
  14. Here is my take on bearings. If you have a new or newer reel and have not had the bearings properly flushed and lubed, you should do so. A good cleaning in an ultrasonic cleaner and a lower viscosity oil make a huge difference, for many people this will be enough. When your reels have a little use on them and they start to become a little less smooth and casting distance seems a little off, I recommend to replace the stock bearings with the ABEC 5 hybrids. In many cases the ABEC 5 bearings are comparably priced with stock replacements. Then their are the guys that want everything they get out of their reels, enthusiasts, tuners, guys that like to throw very light baits on casting gear. I can see in these types of situations where an ABEC 7 bearing run dry will help to lower the startup inertia required to get the spool moving. Many guys that fall into this category opt for micro bearings over the ABEC 7 OS. Worth is something only you can determine, I stopped using ABEC 7 bearings in my everyday reels when I learned I was not good enough at casting to make proper use of them. Good Luck
  15. One thing I have not heard mentioned in these discussions is the thermocline and the importance it has in the elimination of unproductive, or less productive water.
  16. I chose one that would hard for me to forget, that becomes important at a certain point in your life.
  17. Nice reel, my favorite part are the knobs, I have a couple of reels that those would look real nice on.
  18. I have a reoccurring dream of a fishing trip that I remember having with my Grandmother and Grandfather. I love it when I have this dream and always wake with a smile on my face.
  19. Don't dismiss those B series reels, they are still sought after and fished by many people. Most parts can be found for them through independent sources. I like to think of them as the 72 Chevy P.U. of the fishing world, not many frills, just all business.
  20. Pay special attention to the Bucoo, it has been my experience that they are over rated in terms of both power and action. This does not mean that they are not good rods, just need to make the adjustment to get what you want.
  21. Have you tried the Spro McRip85?
  22. The Gambler Giggy Stick floats and work well, the products from Hag's also float.
