  1. The DD22 is a legend when it comes to deep crankbaits.
  2. The line diameter and density of FC line will more than make up for any perceived casting distance increase with mono in regards to getting crankbaits deep. Mono has long been the preferred line of choice for crankbait fishing, but with FC line becoming better and better many serious crankbait anglers have made the move. A lot of crankbait anglers still prefer mono for shallow crankbaits, as it does exactly that, helps keep them shallow.
  3. Out of my own curiosity what reel are you using?
  4. I use a walking action with a frog a lot of the time, to do this well you need to manage the slack in your line. I prefer a reel with a little lower IPT than typical 7.1:1 reels offer. Having a reel with a lower IPT allows me to have a better rhythm while walking the frog and managing the slack line. There are times when a faster reel would be a big benefit, but I have found for me a little slower reel is more comfortable.
  5. While I disagree with most of what you have said, it is not the point of my post to debate who is right or wrong. I simply asked do you have a link to and Elite Level Pro that uses braided line as their primary choice for crankbiats. As I have said in previous posts, I am interested in what the top Anglers in our hobby have to say on this subject. Nothing more nothing less.... Thanks Anyway
  6. So which of the Lews and Abu reels were you able to personally compare?
  7. Finesse baits and long casts, as you mentioned target areas with any shade. I typically try to find bluegill beds and fish the first deep drop near them with slow rolled spinnerbaits, crankbaits, finesse worms, anything that I can move slowly and cover a lot of water from a distance.
  8. No doubt that we all have our own preferences, but that does not mean they are the best choice. I will put my trust in the Elite Level Angler, who spends more time on the water than they do, who has more to risk from a bad choice than they. Like I said this is not intended to be a debate of right or wrong, we each make our own choices. I am simply looking for information on any Elite Level Angler that chooses to use braid as the primary choice for crankbaits, and hope to learn why.
  9. Loosen the thumb screw as you have described, the side plate should then rotate either up or down, sorry can't recall which direction. If the sideplate feels like it will not move, check your spool tension and make sure that it is not cranked down, if so loosen the spool tension cap and try to rotate the side plate.
  10. While I appreciate and respect both of your opinions, I will reiterate my original request. Do you have any links or articles with Elite Level Pro's that use braid as their line of choice for crankbaits? Not trying to start an argument, I just want some material for my own edification. O.P. If you feel this is a thread Hi Jack I will start a new thread, if not I will continue here.
  11. Thanks for the link, I am hoping to find someone who uses it more as a line of choice and not just for a particular situation. I find it odd that he found it a good solution for fishing in an area where the primary cover was wood.
  12. Great first post, perfect answer.
  13. Please don't take this post the wrong way, because I mean it exactly as it is worded and nothing more. Can anyone show me a reference to any Elite Series Pro where they recommend braid or have used braid as their line of choice for crankbait fishing. I have fished crankbaits for many years, and have followed the advice of what I consider some of the best crankbait fisherman in the world, Fritz, Clunn, KVD and others, and I can find no reference to any of them using anything other than mono or FC line. This site has more than any other I follow recommend braided line for these baits, I personally can see no advantage to it, and would like to read some information from respected Pro's giving their opinion on braid as their preferred choice of line for this type of bait. If you have a link, or article please post them.
  14. There will be a new Zillion released at ICAST, prices on the Zillion are already being greatly reduced and will continue to fall. If you have ever wanted to own a Daiwa Zillion, now is a good time to buy.
  15. When TT completed their review on the low speed reels in 02/10 one of the categories that went into the final score was price. All of these reels can now be had for a much lower price than that listed in the review. Go back look at the final review scores removing cost as one of the criteria, since it has no bearing on performance and do your own calculations, it may give you another idea or two.
  16. The reel does not have an ARB and relies on a ratchet and dog type system. This allows the handle to have a certain amount of back play. This is suppose to be useful to some for crankbait fishing, in that it allows the resistance of a fish or if the bait bumps structure through the handle of the reel as pressure. I believe the original BB1 used this system of anti reverse and it was made popular for crankbaits by David Fritz. IIRC this reel can also be purchased with standard a standard ARB.
  17. One Man's dollar is another Man's dime, get in where you fit in.
  18. Neko, and Jika are two that are certainly worth your time to investigate.
  19. I fish a swimjig a lot, and have many, many different trailers available to use, and they all produce at times. The one consistent trailer that I find myself going to time and time again is a Kalins single tailed grub rigged nice and straight with the tail down, maybe it's a confidence thing for me, but I like to start with this trailer and make adjustment from there.
  20. I am in the camp that they are absolutely 100% worth the extra money, catch them on sale, or someone getting rid of some quality used ones at a good price and it makes it a little easier on the pocket book.
  21. LC RC 1.5, I can't tell you what it is exactly that makes these baits so special compared to similar baits, but I have proven it to myself many times over that they have that certain "IT" that catches fish.
  22. Crankbaits are one of my favorite ways to fish. There has been some very good advice given, and all of these things will certainly increase your success. Just remember that no matter what you do, a certain number of fish are always going to come off while crankbait fishing. Watch videos of KVD or any other top Pro while throwing crankbaits and they are going to lose a few. if you feel you are losing more than your fair share, then you need to do as already mentioned, start the evaluation of your entire system from rod to bait in detail and figure out what needs to change. In your case, one of the first things I would try is a little lighter line, something closer to 12lb, it will provide for a little more stretch, and allow the bait to have a lot more action.
  23. agreed, some people have no sense of fashion.
  24. Are those your toenails, nice color.......
  25. Glad it was a simple fix
