  1. Probably wont see them in the stores until after ICAST, just a guess.
  2. I have been having good luck with the Berkely Havoc twin tail grubs
  3. Looks like a fantastic upgrade, I will be looking for the review.
  4. Put your thumb on the spool, it will generate a huge amount of drag. I have the Aird spinning reel, have not had a chance to fish it much but so far it has impressed me for the price.
  5. Baseball lost a true legend of the sport, HOF Tony Gwynn, Mr. Padre has passed away at age 54. I always enjoyed Tony Gwynn as a player, R.I. P.
  6. I thought the same thing, can't quite figure the spool tension making it happen. But he does say that it does not happen when in free spool and that is what made me think of things outside of spool related.
  7. The only thing that comes to immediate mind is the anti-reverse pawl, you might try removing it as it is a redundant backup to the ARB and often causes a little clicking noise in Shimano reels that are equipped with this part.
  8. Post Spawn fish often move shallower in the morning to feed, as the water temp rises with the sun, they often suspend near the thermocline. Find schools of baitfish and bass will often be suspended under them. Try crankbaits that run the appropriate depth and spoons can also be effective.
  9. The Eakins and Headturner are probably my two favorite rods in the Cara line, both are extremely versatile and can cover a lot of techniques.
  10. One way to decide it to determine the weight of the bait that you will be using, or an average wieight of many of the baits you will bet throwing. Look at the rods by MFG and see what the recommended weight range on the rods are, this will give you a good idea of what the mfg recommends for power, find something in the sweet spot, not on the upper end of weight and not on the lower. Action really comes down to a personal choice in my opinion, and the type of line that you will use needs to be factored into the equation. Rods that will be used to throw treble hook type baits have traditionally benefited from a slower actions, moderate and moderate fast, single hook presentations traditionally have benefited from a faster action like fast or extra fast. With squarebills and lipless I prefer something with a little more backbone and a slightly faster tip. Square bills are designed to make contact with structure and cover, when they do a slower rod like a moderate tends to absorb/dampen some of that impact and the bait does not have as much deflection and erratic action. Lipless crankbaits are often run over the tops of grass, when they contact the grass as faster action makes it much easier to rip the bait through the grass and free it. These are some of the things I look at when choosing a rod, I generally step outside of crankbait labeled rods for these two presentations. My preference would be either a M or MH based on the weight of the baits, with a fast action and a slightly softer tip.
  11. I have seen many times when you call to order one or other small parts like e - clips they just send them to you free of charge. If not it wont be much.
  12. What will be truly funny is to see how many people run out to buy Spurs gear in the morning, claiming to have been a Spurs fan all their life.
  13. Looking at the schematics it should work with no problems, the drag washer stack up uses exactly the same parts in both reels, the IAR sleeve is the same and the AR bearing is the same. The parts you would need to change would be Main Gear 1281156 Pinion Gear 1281155 Should be an easy swap as long as we are talking about Gen 3 Revo SX.
  14. Ok, so now I'm interested, what magical $65 dollar reel do you have that cast baits this light in weight. Let me venture a guess and say the BPS Prolite.
  15. I would suggest that the damage you saw was more due to severe corrosion and a lot less to do with misalignment. With my suggestion no tolerance has changed, the bearing is exactly the same size and housing for that bearing remains exactly the same size, the thread only eliminates any over tolerance that is already there. Anyway we will not agree on this so lets just move on and agree that we don't.
  16. Keep in mind that you are speaking to someone with a history in machining and tolerances. As mentioned above when one bearing can sit tightly in the housing and another falls out without problem, I think there may be slightly more tolerance than you think. The other thing you will want to consider is bearings, they also have a tolerance when they are produced. I have serviced reels for a good number of years by many mfg's and I can tell you this with 100% honestly, I have never seen a spool shaft damaged by a bearing that was mis- aligned by a thousandths or two, but would love to see a photo of one the next time you run across it. Anyway I respect the fact that you work for some reel company cleaning and repairing their reels, but I have to raise the flag on this one.
  17. I fish a lot of Falcon Rods, the lfc-4-17 is the Mansfield Special model, good rod but with it med power and moderate action it is going to be a slow for your squarebills and lipless cranks, the lfc-5-17 Big Cranker is a medium heavy power with a medium fast action, it will suit your squarebill needs better and make it easier to rip your lipless cranks through the grass. It will still be slow enough that you wont lose fish due to tearing out hooks. My advice is based on using FC line, if you use braid you will need to make your own adjustments due to the lack of stretch in the line.
  18. This is not recommended but I have seen it done with no ill effects until a replacement part could be obtained. The housing that the bearing sits in on the palm plate is a precision fit, there is not much tolerance an the bearing fits tightly in the housing. Take some ordinary sewing thread and place it against the wall of the bearing housing, slip the bearing into the housing with the thread still there. The thickness of the thread will create enough tension that the bearing will not move in the housing. Cut the thread off leaving just a small tag end, so you can grab it when you remove the bearing to properly install the bearing and retainer. The key here is to get thread that is thick enough to create enough tension to keep the bearing in place. Again, not recommended, but it will work as a get by solution until a part can be purchased.
  19. check this frog's voice out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkjsN-J27aU&feature=player_embedded
  20. Me personally I find that I need just a little more spool tension, as it helps control the spool startup speed where magnetics have a little more problem. What makes the difference is how aerodynamic the bait is. Spinnerbaits, require more, baits like a rattle trap seem to require a little less. The secret is to keep a nice smooth casting motion and let the rod and reel do its stuff.
  21. What this guy said ^^^^^^^
  22. Right turn Clyde, set your budget and stick to it, find the best reel within your budget. Or do what I always do and say to heck with the budget this is what I really want.
  23. One thing that helped with my catch rate was to slow down my retrieve. Crank the bait just fast enough to get the wobble and vibration out of it and then don't crank it any faster. Sometimes this retrieve works very well and the flash and wobble really set the fish on fire.
