  1. They are also releasing the Tatula HD.
  2. So buy some real FC line and tell us about your results, you continue to bring up P-Line Floroclear and your results with it are not relevant to this thread. Sorry it didn't work for you, try some Seaguar InviszX or something else and report back.
  3. No, G. Loomis is a company owned by Shimano. Gary Loomis is a person that owns North Fork Composites and Edge is a subdivision of NFC and make the Edge rods.
  4. Are you sure you meant to say 1/16th oz baits, there are some seriously high end BFS reels out there that do not cast a bait this light with any accuracy or distance using high end rods specifically designed for ultra light baits,
  5. Remember when we would get upset when we could not make a wiggle wart run true.
  6. There are no secrets in fishing.
  7. Sure he meant Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath
  8. I have caught several nice fish using this technique, the Red Eye Shad has an almost Senko type shimmy when allowed to fall on controlled slack line. If I am having success fishing deep crankbaits in an area and the bite stops, I sometimes can pull another fish or two from the area switching to this technique.
  9. I just cook them in a pan with clarified butter, season them with a little salt and pepper. Keep the heat fairly high and don't put a lid on the pan or they will get mushy. I really enjoy them.
  10. There is a very successful striper fisherman in the local area that told me he uses what he calls a three way rig. He attaches a 3 way swivel to his mainline, then ties a DD22 on a 24" leader and a large shad type paddle tail on about an 18 leader on the other. This is trolled and gets down fairly deep, he claims this is the secret to his success.
  11. I purchased a 6'9" E21 Carrot Stix LTX right after they were released at ICAST. This rod was fantastic, great sensitivity, balance was spot on, very light, perfect combination of power and action. I fished that rod for about 5 years never had any problems with it, or for that matter any of the 3 original rods that I purchased. I had several friends that bought e21 rods after the initial release and they just were not the same quality, they had poor quality and almost no support. I ended up selling my 3 rods to a friend and a far as I know they are still in service. I fish a combination of rods today, mostly Falcon and St. Croix with a Loomis mixed in, I am always looking for a quality rod that feels like that Carrot Stix.
  12. IMO, either the flash of the blade or the vibration got the fishes attention, once you killed the bait, it lost interest. I would have come back to the same spot a little later with a white spinner bait.
  13. Very similar reel to the Lews BB1,in fact Ryobi built some of the original Lews.
  14. If a person does not have a least a basic understanding of most techniques then it would be hard to actually say where your strengths lie. I don't prefer finesse fishing, but I have several setups dedicated to it because at times it is what catches fish.
  15. All of my spinning reels have 10-20lb braid with a 6-8lb FC leader.
  16. Contact baits are where sensitivity shines, purchase the rod that feels the most sensitive in your hands, and has features (guides, reel seat, full or split-grip) that you prefer. Rod length can be anything that you are comfortable with but will benefit from being 7ft or longer, power will depend on the weight of the baits that you intend to throw the most and the cover you fish, I prefer and XF action for my jig rods. A moderate to high IPT reel works well for jig fishing.
  17. I fish a lot of Falcon rods, I have multiples of the rod you are speaking of in the Cara line. I have both micro and standard guides on these rods, I can see no appreciable difference in casting distance, sensitivity or rod action. I would not pay any more for one than the other.
  18. Many of my favorites have already been listed, but I will add a few that I really enjoy. Mark Knopfler, Steve Vai, George Lynch, Alex Lifeson, Rudolf Schenker. and even the Motor City Mad Man could make it talk.
  19. Because centrifugal and magnetic brakes work at different parts of the cast it is difficult to say that 1 centrifugal brakeis the equivalent of a magnetic setting of 4 for example. IMHO it is something that you will have to experience and adjust the reel for your casting style. Start with the basics, turn the magnetic brakes off and adjust the spool tension to get a controlled fall. Set the magnetic brakes to a medium level setting and make your adjustment up or down as appropriate after the result of few casts..
  20. Value to price ratio is good with these reels
  21. Congrats on the new reel. I agree it is a lot of fun throwing lighter baits on BFS gear, now that you have selected your reel, it will only be a matter of time before you start fine tuning it to meet your needs, it is kind of addicting.
  22. If it is only getting a small amount of water it can also be coming through the drain, try plugging the drain before you put your boat in the water and see if it stays dry.
  23. If it is only getting a small amount of water it can also be coming through the drain, try plugging the drain before you put your boat in the water and see if it stays dry.
  24. I use a high quality FC line for all of the techniques you mentioned. Your best bet is to try a few quality lines and see what works best for you and your fishing situation.
  25. As mentioned by many, try to find the fish that are suspending in relation to baitfish, these fish are generally more active. I have had the best luck with Kastmaster spoons, thrown on a controlled slack line and jigged through the school.
